I can't quote wright yet, but... dang it.
I walked into that one didn't I.
I'm still proud of "Antilife Hell." Along with things like "Mall of thorns."
Because I somehow found it a good choice too go through every single Cleric spell.
Seriously, have fun with "Antilife Hell."

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Or it makes the sea itself invisible...lots of fun, especially if it works on smaller bodies of water.
Bestow Curse: Give someone a bunch of mangy mongrels (literal or figurative).
Create or Destroy Mater: Depending on your DM's typo policy, it's either incredibly useful or only works on awakened pickup trucks.
Create Undead: Useful for when you can't be bothered to fight the darn things.
Darkskin: I dunno how often you would need blackface, but I thought the thought was weirdly amusing.
Detect Manic: The grammar's a bit clumsy, but it's a decent psychiatry tool.
Deincarnate, Devivify: For when you need something to be less extant or alive.
Divine World: Maybe keep this ring away from missionaries.
Enthrill: Whee!
Flight: A cantrip to replace a 3rd-level spell.
Funseen Servant: You have to look at it, but it brings life to any party.
Geas: Could be useless or awesome, depending on the kind.
Grant Insect: Useful for last-minute birthday presents...unless they have to be mundane insects and not, I dunno, bullet ants or giant centipedes or whatever.
Gust of Wand: Hopefully, the wands are still enchanted.
CHarm Person: For when the original spell goes wrong.
Illusory Script: Good for pretending a guild owes you money.
Legend Lori: Only useful if you know someone named Lori.
Mage Hang: That's one way to kill a wizard.
Magic Mouth: They're nocturnal, but
Massege: Comfortable, if the tyop doesn't twist it too badly.
Moonbean: If nothing else, you could probably use it to buy a cow.
Pass WithoutTRace: It probably has some use. Especially if you get in trouble for using Darkskin...
Planar Finding: It might let you find a plane (not useful), or it might be a cross-planar spell for finding things (useful).
Plant Growth: Does what it sounds like. Requires two castings for a full pair.
PlaneShift: Your DM could interpret this multiple ways, but most would be useful.
Plate Shift: This would be even more so...unless it only applied to tableware.
Raise, Dead: Not sure what you could use this for that animate dead or the original spell couldn't, aside from theatrics.
SPeak with Animals/Plants/Etc: Good for summoning a mountain.
Sanding: For the magical carpenters.
Shutter: For windows.
Tharm: Obscure words will get you far.
STorm of Vengeance: When you need a proper smiting, accept no substitutes.
Vicious Mockery: Summon a heckler.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
If you're using Power Word Fill on something as small as a mug, you're wasting it. A word that powerful could fill something much larger...say, the dungeon?
Or you could Power Word Mill above their heads.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Ah, those dazzling, bright teeth! (Yes, misspelled, I know.)
Also, Power Wort [any of the above]: Creates a potion of the associated effect, but only after about two to four weeks of fermentation.
Fileball: The caster chooses either a great wad of official and/or useful papers (mostly many years out of date) or a great pile of steel files - the shaping tools - of various sizes, shapes, and quality.
Fineball: It's a very fine ball indeed. A highly polished, perfect sphere of the finest material(s) as chosen by the caster, or an extravagant yet elegant party.Last edited by jqavins; 2018-01-29 at 11:36 AM.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Asdythepriest, can "one letter" ever be fudged to a digraph? I was thinking Pass Without Face, but that's changing 'Tr' to 'F'. And I don't know what it would do, but it sounds funny.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Pass without Race - Either anyone wanting to go faster than you must make a will save to even try, or no one you go by can tell whether you are human, elf, halfling, or what.
Pass without Brace - Even though you would otherwise require a leg brace, cast, or the like, this spell allows you to walk normally without it. (Don't leave your brace behind when the spell's duration ends.)-- Joe“Shared pain is diminished. Shared joy is increased.”-- Spider RoninsonAnd shared laughter is magical

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Firebot - Summon a construct wreathed in flame.
Firbolt - Conjure and launch a 15' fir tree as though it were a crossbow bolt.
Fireblot - Remove writing and clean stains WITH FIRE.
Wirebolt - Summon a metal line that you can wield as though it were a +1 whip. When it hits a creature, you may dismiss it to strike your target with a Lightning Bolt.
Sirebolt - Never you mind what this launches. In fact, don't cast this one.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
That one's an inversion of two letters, so not within the letter of the law as given in the OP. But come on, Mr. DM, you've gotta allow switching two letters. I mean, like, that was just an oversight in the first place, right?
(Of course, it's also not a cleric or druid spell, but I was guilty of exactly the same thing, as well as a two letter change violation.)-- Joe“Shared pain is diminished. Shared joy is increased.”-- Spider RoninsonAnd shared laughter is magical

Firebold - It's fire. That's bold.
Firebowl - Useful against Firepins.
Firebelt - Hope your pants aren't flammable.
Tirebolt - Made by Firestone no less.
Direbolt - Like a bolt, but bigger and meaner.
Liarbolt - Original creator not responsible for overly enlarged noses.
Firedolt - A dolt that's lit himself on fire.
Firecolt - .....Ponyta?
Filebolt - This is what you get when you teach lawyers spellcasting.
Mirebolt - Swampish.
Irebolt - Annoying.
Firemolt - .....This sounds painful.Wind & Sound Elemental Eric Greenhilt avatar by Akrim.elf

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Not to mention all the variations with a power sword, power ward, power cord, lower word, power worm, power work, pooer word (doesn't really work, but dirty things get a pass), tower word, power lord, power world, prower word, plower word, sower word, power words (Stu on, Stu in? Yes, those are cheating because I'm adding two letters overall...) etc.
The only one I'd like to use that's missing is shower word, because that particular diphtong is formed by two letters.Last edited by Lvl 2 Expert; 2018-02-13 at 04:20 AM.

Re: 5e Changing one letter in a spell name
Skimming the spell list and stretching beyond CoD spells...
Aida: Good for when you need a hireling. Or an opera.
Arcane Dock: For when you need to tie your magical ship up somewhere.
Arcane Eyy: You just know the Fonz would love this spell.
Arcane Locke: Sometimes, you just need a good philosopher-wizard.
Arms of Radar: Good for scanning the area for people to hug.
Braiding Smite: Effective against enemies with animate hair. Or medusae.
CalmEMotions: Remember when Scion stopped Leviathan's tidal waves? ...What do you mean, you don't know what I'm talking about?
Cline: Another of those spells which only works if your DM happens to know a technical term.
Conjure Boarrage: Angry pig FTW.
Cotnap: Similar to the original, except with a bed.
Crownof Stars: A space bird can have all sorts of uses.
Dance Macabre: Thriller!
Dominate Beast: Make sure to recast it often, or else you'll have a goddess who's pissed that you just controlled her.
Drown of Madness: When you really need to immerse someone in the crazy.
Druid Grave: That's one way to get a death spell!
Fare Step: Perfect for charging tolls on footbridges!
Feign Dearth: Pretend that you're suffering from a shortage.
Firebald: Depending on if fire is a noun or a verb, it either conjures middle-aged men to throw at people or scorches off someone's hair.
Glo[/b]v[/b]e of Invincibility: Good for working with dangerous chemicals.
Heat Metal: Fancy.
Hax: I call it!
Healing Ward: Boring; probably just a field of healing or something. But it's probably more useful than burning somebody's hair off.
Hollow: ...Did nobody think of this yet?
Lust Devil: A 2nd-level spell to summon a lawful succubus, cheaper than summon minor demon and much cheaper than planar ally.
Mage Armor: A specialized and unusually-potent form of charm person.
Melt's Acid Arrow: Good for when you need to dissolve something. Or maybe it's a caustic sandwich.
Mind Blank: Either stores mental energy, or keeps an eye on your finances.
Mind Steed: Good for when you can't afford a groom.
Misread: A potent debuff when cast on a wizard; a harmless prank on anyone else.
Misty Stop: I'm not sure what this is, but I'm leaning towards either an anti-teleportation spell or a Pokémon joke.
Moonbeam! Go all Majora's Mask on them. Sunbam! is similar, but hotter. (Note: It may help if you spell it with the exclamation mark.)
Psychic Scream: Get out of here, psions! Shoo, shoo!
Scatter: This is already a spell...but a high-level one.
Shadow Clade: Erm...come to think of it, this probably wouldn't do anything if your DM isn't a bio major.
Shadow ofMOil: Or Shadow of Foil, or Shadow of Coil, or Shadow of Toil...there's a lot of fun to be had with this spell.
SKill Empowerment: Sorry, this is as powerful as you're gonna get. It's all downhill from here.
Silance: A lance made of silicon. Decent emergency weapon.
Slur: An audio version of the classic illusion spell.
Spearing Smite: For when you left your weapon at home but still need to smite someone.
Steal Wind Strike: A very niche spell, but hilarious if you get a chance to use it.
Transmute Rack: Perfect for when you need to dry some clothes. What did you think I was talking about?
Wall of Land: A bit more solid than the original spell, and very useful at sea.
Water Balk: Hydrophobia.
Zeroism: A potent debuff spell.
(whatever) Bola: Good for snaring people. And possibly setting them on fire.
Also, how does this item interact with scrolls?
1. Can you scribe scrolls with these spells on them? I'm sure you could sell these unique scrolls at quite a premium.
2. Can you use the item on spells cast from scrolls? If so, you might have access to spells off your spell list.
3. Can you do both? In that case...well, the options open up quite a lot. (Warning: Don't try this unless #1 and #2 have been approved.)
