So it is that time once again to pick at ponythread's aesthetics...

Starting work one their third fleet, the Phystyulons. (Literal translation the sister/brotherhood of Physt.)

Very early days yet, but even so - thoughts? Comments?

(Approx 40mm long; secondary spinal mounts are approx 1mm wide at the top, to give you some idea of dimensions.

The basic shape idea came from after last year's de-cursing session. (Though I appear - annoyingly - to have lost the original scribble-sketch.)

Here's an interesting thing (if anyone is even still about...) (or at least mildy interesting), something that doesn't happen very often for me. The Phystyulon heavy cruiser took some iterations and required a bit of test printing, to get done. (I also broke my self-imposed rule about stopping at nine o'clock and run a couple of hours more last night, but for nce I seem to have gotten away with it...)

I thought at least one of you maybe might be interested to see behind the screen as it were and see how it evolved.

The first couple of pictures are the initial design (upper) and the final design (lower). The lower one, you can see is a little bit bigger (10%) hull and with significantly larger details.




And the reason for that, you will be able to see from the test prints. (Top L=> upper centre+> lower right => lower left, plus Scoots for scale!) The details just weren't big enough to be readily printable or visible. It took four print iterations to get the details to be a) big enough and c) printing acceptably. After the first try, I upped the size of the hull (and basically everything) by 20% and did a bit more fiddling. I decided that was too big, though, so the final print is only 10% larger than the original.



Here's the CAD images of the four models I printed, same sequence (L=>R), with one extra intervening step. The second model from the left being a partial experimentation on the width (you have to look hard, but you'll just about see the width across the points on the sides is slightly wider); derived from me finding out that the very base design (that I showed in my last post) was actually assymetric, 'cos I'd bogged up! So I sliced it in half and worked out whether the narrower or wider half looked better (I went with the former, but have kept the latter around for maybe another ship!)




You'll also notice that in the final iteration, those pyramid-tipped towers have been turned into trucated pyramids - the points were just not coming out, but I think that truncation works pretty well. Basically, I coped the details from the last print. I basically copied the size of the details from the previous 20% model (because they were the right printable size) and added them to the 10% bigger hull. I also removed some of the super-structure towers, and enlarger the rest another 1.1 times, making them stand out a bit more. I also went from five to three engines, but the same size of the previous version (and without needing some much extra lkower stuff to support them!)



So here we have the final version, lurking in space. The glowing parts you can see are the teleportation coils - unlkie most elenthnar powers, the Phsytyulons use variant of the Dro-Sanla teleport- FTL derived from the United Concorde of Divine Realm's magitech teleportation, rather than elenthnar-convention GV drives (and having to use Dro-Sanla tugs to piggy-bank on UCDR node stations).

No. I did it once (on the Paizo forums) for the first parts of Rise of the Runelords, writing it religiously for a solid year, to basically no response after the first couple of weeks. I try not to commit myself to too much "Bleakbane watches/reads/plays" stuff at once, because - as you know - I have a nasty tendancy to finish what I start, even if (as in the aforementioned example) it's to an empty chamber and there are better ways for me to spend my time...

Besides, this week it would have been pretty much literally "the PCs spend the session doing shopping, spending their down-time working, got the papers through so that the Lucky Monkey (now Funky Monkey) was theirs and then we did all their taxes, because the tax people in Cauldron are laying taxes on like nobody's business."

Like I said, we LITERALLY PLAYED FANTASY TAX RETURNS this session...
