So I'm putting a list of films I would like to watch this Valentine's Day. I can't watch them all due to time constraints but here are the films I'm considering:

So yeah I have big plans for the 14th. Anyway I'm wondering if there is a day of the year (official holiday or not) that is the complete polar opposite of Valentine's Day.

*Regardless of anything I do watch I am definitely going to watch Last Tango in Paris.

Based on my best available astronomical calculations, I would say the antithesis of Valentine's Day is August 19, Humanitarian Day. (Not August 14, because (a) February is short, and (b) Earth's aphelion is in July, so it takes slightly more than half a year to reach the opposing point in its orbit.)

Maybe your SO. Mine would be very happy about that. Plus getting the reservations is way easier...and the simple way to pull this off is not to have cheap un-romantic SO...but to treat them like every day is valentines day in the love and affection deptartment.

Premise: V-Day is about loving someone.
Opposite movie: Falling Down (from the 90s). All the interactions in this movie are ground down into what you can get from someone else. There's no intimacy, just manipulation and cynicism. There's a love subplot, but even that's harsh.

I've personally found it much more appropriate, myself, to discreetly celebrate, on my own, "Happily Single People's Day" on February 14th on those years where I wasn't in a relationship, basking in the greatly enjoyable absence of any obligation to come up with various ideas of things romantic enough and cheesy enough to at least meet or exceed the bar that my gf's exes have set and which kind of became an expectation for those girls.

So nice :)

(I've been with the same girl for years now, and she knows I'm not very romantic, and this one somewhat accepts it, unlike a few previous others, so Feb 14th isn't too bad nowadays.)

Well, yeah. On Valentine's, you get flowers, cuddly toys and chocolates, which is exactly what I'd want on my birthday. Plus red is my favourite colour. I dunno. I tend to find having the two days next to each other has a kind of gift-amplification effect.
