I have tried this in real life and I can say it doesn't work. Also it does not light things on fire very well.
Come to the dark side; we have pop-tarts.

    Meat tastes good.
If we aren't supposed to eat people, then why are they made of meat?

I have also tried this in real life and I am no longer allowed to attend Antiques Roadshow
Ur-member and coffee caterer of the fan club.

I wish people would stop using phrases such as "in my humble opinion", "just my two cents", and "we're out of coffee".

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for they are out drinking coffee and, like, whatever.

Hmm, perhaps you could use the basic poison form the PHB as a basis of this concept. Here is the description of it from the PHB...

“You can use the poison in this vial to coat one slashing or piercing weapon or up to three pieces of ammunition. Applying the poison takes an action. A creature hit by the Poisoned weapon or ammunition must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or take 1d4 poison damage. Once applied, the poison retains potency for 1 minute before drying.”

Change the damage type to fire and refluff it so that he is putting oil on his blade and lighting it with the same action he applies it and viola, there you go. I have even used this poison in AL before, so I doubt that it is unbalanced in any manner. The basic poison from the PHB costs 100 GP, so just make this special oil cost the same amount.

    Hope I have helped.

Was it? I am sorry, I didn’t bother to read through the entirety of the thread before I posted. I should know better and I apologize.

It's all good, I haven't said anything up until now

Take a flask of Alchemist's Fire (50gp), use action to coat weapon, adds 1d4 fire damage to next hit within one minute.
You can do the same thing with a flask of oil (1sp) but it only deals 1 point of fire damage.
