    Default Ironfang Invasion OOC

    Hey everyone!

This is the OOC thread for my Ironfang Invasion game. Please can all the selected players check in here, repost character details and choose a colour for your character's dialogue. IC thread here

If you could all also come to a consensus on which of the four main locations in Phaendar you'll be heading for, that would be very useful for me! The options are:
    - Oreld's Fine Shop
    - The Phaendar Trading Company
    - Riverwood Shrine
    - The Taproot Inn

This choice doesn't need to be made until the end of the (IC) day of browsing market stalls etc. So this should give you a bit of time to meet and get to know each other a little better. Any questions, let me know!
WINNER! Villainous Competition XXXII: Selene, Bride of Ruin
Silver Medallist Villainous Competition XXVI: Faras Alnahr, Dark Scion of the Hippo God

    Isafel Vitas Aesernas
Half Elven Ranger of Fangwood Forest

    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show

    Spoiler: Background
    Show
The son of a renowned Elven Minstrel of Kyonin, Ilitharath of House Syrune, was injured when a party of Belkzen Orcs savagely attackedan elven procession on their way to Southern Fanghorn, killing many and harrying the survivors. The Chernasardo Rangers, in an attempt to confine the Orcs to Belkzen to the Hold and it's immediate surrounds, came accross the site of the attack and brought the survivors to the healing house of a local herbalist renowned for her skill with the healing arts. His mother, Lucretia Aesernas, assistant to the famed healer received the Rangers and, along with her mistress, called upon the Foxclaws to collect the herbs required to treat so many survivors.

Ilitharath soon recovered from his injuries due, in no small part, Lucretia's growing skill with the healing arts. A sense of gratitude flooded the minstrel as he awoke in the healing house, and the dark haired woman who had brought him back from the brink soon became the object of his affections. Drawn to the Kyonin Minstrel's exotic beauty and ethereal nature, Lucretia accepted Ilitharath's advances and invited the elf to her chambers. Ilitharath wintered with the young healer, watching her belly grow with child, he played songs, created poetry and engaged in other such leisurely activites while Lucretia herself collected wood for fires, herbs for her craft, skinned, cleaned and cooked game for herself, her child, and their elven guest. However, as the spring came, Ilitharath, came to realize that a human paramor quickly lost their lustre, and so returned to the courts of Kyonin, and has been absent his son's life since before his own birth.

However, a scout for the Chernasardo's, Valena, too had wintered in the village, she watched with contempt as he abandoned the healer and her, as yet unborn son. So she resigned her position among the Rangers, and earned a meager living through application of her skills as woodsman and hunter, providing assistance for Lucretia and her son, Isafel, who was born in the months after Ilitharath abandoned them both. In time Valena was invited into the Aesernas household, at first for convenience, and out of gratitude for the woman's efforts on their behalf, but soon that relationship was blessed by Shelyn and true love flourished between the two women.

His mother's provided a loving, and stable household for the young man, and he received training in literacy, numeracy, and the healing arts from Lucretia, while he enjoyed much of his afternoons under the watchful eye of Valena. From the former Ranger he learned how to spot, hunt and track game in the woods that surrounded their homestead, and blessed by the elven traits of his shiftless father, he was exceptionally keen eyed, and began to spot game at distances that astounded his mother. As his skill began to rival her own, she apprenticed the stalwart young man with Aubrin the Green, herself affiliated with the Chernasardo Rangers. Lucretia was less than supportive of Isafel's new mentor, given her proclivity for alehouses and devotion to Cayden Cailean, the Drunken God.

Isafel, however, is a well known young man in the region surrounding Phaendar, his mother's skills with the healing arts and mid-wifery has been blessing and boon to many families in the region. Whereas Valena has protected their livestock, and homestead, from the savagery of roving wolf packs, and ensured that roads to market are free of bandits or other, more despicable, threats. While Isafel has not yet earned such a reputation, he has managed to track down wandering live stock, provide herbs and roots vital to his mother's healing arts, and has, of recent months become something of a hunter and trapper. His success has allowed him to procure skilled labor and supplies needed to winterize a hunting lodge about a half mile south and east of his mother's homestead, providing the privacy a young man needs even if he is still unwilling to leave the love and warmth his mother's provide him.

In case it isn't obvious, Isafel will be talking in Bold, Dark Green. If I could humbly ask both GM and my fellow players, to use Bold & Color for dialouge it really helps me pick it out from narrative, and descriptive text, when I look back to see who said what.

    Secondly I believe that we all know one another, or at least know *of* one another;
    • Asdoukar Ghrathulkas, Isafel would go so far as to call Asdoukar a friend. Despite the warnings of his mother, Lucretia.
    • Esmeralda Cristeanu, Isafel is aware of the tragedy that befell her people. Valena warned him away from the Tinkers, but he is still enamored of Esme's compassion & exotic beauty.
    • Seron the Pursuer, again, given the dwarf's proclivity for loudly, and repeatedly warning the people of the Ironfang, he is a familiar face to Isafel. His healing skill rival's that of Isafel's mother, Lucretia, and is bolstered by his faith.

    Asdoukar Grathulkas
    Dwarven Invulnerable Rager

    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show

Asdoukar is of medium height for a dwarf, but his large shoulders and long arms make him seem bigger than he actually is. His most defining features are his long scar and his beard. The scar starts from his forehead, over his left eye and down his throat, a memento of the attack that almost killed him. His beard is long, combining with his wild hair. Both are heavily braided with clasps of dull bronze. His strong facial features combined with his magnificent wild beard make him look gruff and in a foul mood, though in reality he is rather friendly, at least for a dwarven battlerager who routinely spends months in solitude. His voice, which is deep but throaty-another memento of the attack- does nothing to lighten up his image.
Asdoukar dresses for comfort and endurance, but his merchant uncle has impressed on him the need to keep appearances. If he can, he dresses rather conservatively, in grey, bronze and silver, favoring waist length tunics, sturdy, leather-reinforced breeches and calf-high military boots. Otherwise, he wears his armor and weapons in most circumstances.

    Spoiler: History
    Show
Asdoukar was born 60 years ago, in one of the mixed dwarven mining communities on the Mindspin mountains. His clan were miners and warriors, with very few exceptions. Their lot was hard and dangerous work, for little pay, in unfriendly environments. Asdoukar had always been a slow learner, who, despite his prodigious strength and stamina, was not suitable for the delicate work of a miner. That left him only fighting as an option, a profession which Asdoukar took up with glee.
His maternal uncle, Grorin Derinulkas, was a mercenary squad leader of some renown in Nirmathas. He took Asdoukar under his wing, teaching him how to fight and how to channel his inner strength. For once, Asdoukar proved a quick study, and he fought as an apprentice within his uncleís squad for several years, gradually becoming a full member. In most cases, the contracts involved simple mercenary work, such as escort, protection, scouting or patrolling. Grorin was a cautious commander, who was good at his job and dependable, and thus rarely had trouble securing commissions.
However, things went very bad last month. Grorin and his company were escorting a Nimrathi supply train from Phaedran to Chernasadro, when a large group of Ironfang legionnaires ambushed them five days into the journey. Grorin and his men fought as well as they could, but the Ironfangs were just too many. In the end, Asdoukar was one of the two survivors of the raid, out of twelve dwarven fighters, three human guards and five teamsters. Asdoukar and the other survivor, the human teamster Terias were found by the ranger Istafel from Phaedran barely clinging to life and crawling back to the village. Since then, Asdoukar has been coalescing in Phaedran. His funds are very low, and he has sold whatever he can, but at last, Asdoukarís strength is back. He has taken to hunting with Istafel and Aubrin, getting back into shape. Asdoukar waits for Market Day, to see if anyone is looking for a guard or a fighting man to hire.

    Asdoukar will speak in Sienna

I believe that Asdoukar would know Seron and attend his sermons, firstly, because he is a dwarf and secondly, because Asdoukar knows the danger of the Ironfangs. They may have struck a casual friendly relationship these last few weeks. Perhaps Seron helped Asdoukar get better?

And of course, Istafel is a friend.

Finally, Asdoukar probably lives in the stable of the Taproot Inn. He has made a small shelter among the hay, and pays a few coins for the privilege and for two meals a day.

    Esmerelda 'Esme' Cristeanu
    Varisian Fortune-Telling Witch

    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show

She dresses usually very lightly, in silk outfits and headbands to hold back her hair, and more often than not has multiple necklaces hanging from her neck. The deserts of Varisia can be hot so she feels much cooler the nearer she is to the forest. Tucked away safely in her outfit sleeps away her pet Beedy, a bearded dragon from back in Varisia who she learned was her familiar later in life.
    Spoiler: Backstory
    Show
Esme was just a young girl when she was introduced to the family business fortune-telling, she was never keen to blatantly lying to people but she understood it was their living and how they kept moving forward. She grew up amongst a clan of nomadic Varisians(gypsies), all of whom were in some way related to one another. She was bullied and many of the bigger cities would claim her family to be nothing but thriving witches (something she learned later on to be all too true). They never stayed in those cities long. They found their way to Nirmathas, potentially seeking shelter in Fangwood Forest, and finding a nice spot only a couple miles outside Phaendar. They made friends with a few of the villagers and gave them more inclined divinations if they do wished, nothing like those ramblings they give to pompous barons seeking guidance.

Unfortunately when they arrived was right about the same time that Molthuni had chosen to launch an attack. Esme's band of Varisians were the first to be hit. Innocent bystanders who knew next to nothing of local territorial wars. Many of Esme's family was killed but she and some others were saved by a local farmer who had brought a few of the stronger villagers to help fend off the soldiers. Every year after that Esme's family stood guard outside Phaendar walls in hopes of making it to the Market Festival. A joyous time where they make quite good coin with their 'fortunes.' Thankfully that time of year had come to make their way to Tamran once again. And as always Esme and her family have set their caravan up outside Phaendar. Hoping to not have to deal with Molthuni again, but one can never be too sure.

I suppose a dark blue will be just fine for me (as long as it looks ok lol)

ēI'm sure Esme knows Asdoukar by seeing him a lot while bringing the horses into the stables or bringing them out when the caravan is ready to head out. (I'm also cool starting at the inn, probably use of these same reasons as to why she's there) They have had short chats, mainly hellos and goodbyes, but nonetheless they do know of each other and what they have done for the town of Phaendar
ēIsafel has always been a strange one in Esme's book. She hasn't quite caught on that he has a thing for her. At first it was just generous tips in her fortune-teller's tent. Then as they grew to be friends it was the awkward looks when they would meet at the inn for drinks. She sees him more as her goofy friend unfortunately, for him lol Esme however acknowledges Isafel's prowess as a ranger; anyone who's apart of the Chernasardos must be quite skilled.
ēEsme doesn't know a lot about Seron other that he was also a survivor and is a priest of Erastil in Phaendar. She was never a very religious woman but during the first attack she was apart of, Seron was a literal god-send because her clan knew mostly only herbal healing, not divine. She has a very high respect for Seron and what he does.

I'm finally off work and heading home (tried to type this during lunch but ran outta time XD) so I'll be sure to check out the IC once I sit down and relax a bit lol

P.S. I also of course injured my thumb twice today...so typing on my phone has just been joyous XD

    Lionheart,

I apologize - work has gotten nuts and I don't feel like I am able to give this great-looking game the time it deserves. I think I'll bow out for an alternate.

Hopefully work calms down for Lokio! I totally understand that real life has got to come first, always. That being said, feel free to give us a shout out when it slows down again, I, for one, would be glad to welcome you back!

One thing that old school class based games require is a decent spread, and sadly we just lost our Cleric, which is our healing power. I think we had a Druid as an alternate, yea? We've only been RP'ing so far, maybe they'd still be up for it?

I hope Lokio tames the wild beast of everyday life. But yes, we need a cleric or something similar. There were two possible submissions that were close, the druid Magrem by Persant and the alchemist Keph by Foryn. Or we can always continue and solicit another application or even NPC a character. I have no problem with playing two characters, in fact.

Or, assuming it's OK with Lokio & Lionheart, we let Grognar Ghost Lokio's dwarf, and we carry on. It's a longish AP, assuming that Lokio's work load balances out they can step back in.

Here's my bio in case the group would like me to be the replacement. I'll wait for a consensus before posting in the in-character thread.

    Magrem Borsk
Human Druid and his side kick boar Goremund

    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show

    Spoiler: Background
    Show
Tobias Borsk ran a successful trapping business (furs) on the outskirts of the southern Fangwood forest while his wife raised his young sons in Phaendar. Whey they were of age, they joined him in the forest where they learned forest survival. It was a hard life but they learned to cope with it. As the years went on, dangers that lurked in the deep forest moved outward. They were defeatable or avoidable at first, but things changed when a corrupted dryad came looking to recruit. After charming a few of the trappers, violence erupted ending with a charmed Tobias slain by his eldest son Magrem. Magrem still has a terrible, discolored scar on the right side of his neck from the battle that day.

Magrem took over the trapping business but relocated to a safer area. The animals were fewer here, so the acquisition of furs was not nearly as good as before. Magremís younger brother Rowland, used his inheritance to start a furrier business in Phaendar. The furs Magremís company collect are sold to his brother for a good price.

Over the years, Magremís crew dwindled over fears of the dangers of the forest. He is still able to afford a house in Phaendar where his wife and daughter live but he fortunes arenít that of what his fathers had been. He loves his wife and daughter very much even though he spends a considerable amount of time away trapping in the forest.

A few seasons ago in late fall, Magrem ran into a group of adventures out in the forest. They were in search of an old fey relic from the time of the fey court. He assisted the group in finding their way through the forest and they continued their quest. A few weeks later, he encountered them again on their return trek. They had found the suspected resting place of the relic but the creatures protecting it were to powerful to be vanquished. Magrem convinced them to stay in town for the winter as it was already turning cold. He also didnít mind having a few extra hands in transporting the furs he caught back to town.

Over the winter he spent much time with the adventuring partyís druid, Cathbhadh. He taught Magrem the ways of the druids and how to cast druidic magic. The adventurers left town in the spring headed westward toward Glimmerhold.

A few months ago, Magrem's wife Lynette and a few others in the town came down with a wasting disease. Magrem spent much of his money trying to cure his wife but it was to no avail. She slowly deteriorated and died over the course of a few months. Magremís daughter Bethany now stays with his brother and sister-in-law when he is trapping in the forest. While her death ways on him greatly, Magrem pushes on to help his community and remaining family.

Magrem will speak in bold teal.

The Borsk family have been trappers in Phaendar for a few generations. Magrem spends most of his time catching animals and pelting furs in the fangwood forest. He comes into town for market festivals and spends winters at his house in Phaendar. Residents of Phaendar would know that his wife recently passed away and that his brother's family watches over his young daughter Bethany while he is off in the forest. His boar companion, Goremund, follows him around like a big puppy.

Being of about the same age and both spending much time in the Fangwood, Isafel and Magrem have probably met each other a good number of times. The Fangwood can be a dangerous place and it is good to have allies near for shelter or warnings of approaching danger.

Welcome then to our new companion, Magrem!

Magrem's family are furriers, and so Isafel supplements his income by selling the hides and pelts from his hunts. I'd also like to suggest that we pause the RP to allow our new companion to randomly find us in the market place so we can all RP together! :)

That's a very good point. We could be just about anywhere we need to be, we didn't necessarily state 'where' we were at the current moment. Since we've been talking about doing trading and are on the way there, we may as well say we're very close to the trading company by now.

As an update, I have not yet heard from Lionheart, however, I would like to continue the game as there seems to be some decent RP, and rapport between the characters. To do so, should you folks feel so inclined, I would like to continue to run Isafel as a GM-PC, however, he will be unlikely to contribute to most social encounters, given his low charisma, and will not take the lead in decision making so as to allow meaningful decisions, tactics and strategies to be developed by you the players. In so doing, I would post Isafel's actions separate of GM updates.

If this is amendable to you, I would be glad to step in, review the AP and continue the progression of the game. I am also inclined to extend an invitation to Syless, who is an active player in another thread I am participating in, and their character the halfling sorcerer, Milenne Fairchilde.

Thoughts, comments, or concerns are welcome.

    And the titular Invasion begins!

I'm fine with the rolls being done in an OOC block in the IC post. Feel free to narrate some of what happened through the day if so inclined, or if you want to jump right to the action you can. Magrem, I left your daughter with your brother Rowland, because as much as you *should* be concerned for her, I want to leave her fate up in the air. I will not be going for shock value killing key NPC's, but some of those we've established will likely not survive the night. I also love drama, so if you have thoughts about some of your PC's connections, you can PM me your thoughts or ideas on their status.

Also, Jet isn't overly fond of Goremund, and has probably made a couple comments about him only being good to be served with a plate of eggs in the morning. So he is outside, you can check on him once you clear the doorway of the Hobgoblins!

I have written a long post when I had an idea:

Can Asdoukar hop on a table and jump from table to table, ending with a jumping attack from the last table, so that he reaches the hobgoblins?

If not, can he upend a table and use it as a battering ram to slam them?

If not, I will do what I originally planned, which is use a chakram to attack and then get close.

Table to table? Let's call that Acrobatics DC 15, failure results in you being adjacent to the target, but Prone.

Parting the seas? You'll be unable to get speed, due to the press of the crowd, so no actual Charge action. But with a move action, due to your Strength, your would end adjacent to the target, with the table providing both you and the targets with partial cover. However you couldn't draw a weapon as part of your move because you have a table in your hands.

Thhanks for this! If I do the parting the seas thing as a move action, can I then use the table itself to attack?
