    Default RIP Steven Hawking

Steven Hawking, a cultural icon who arguably did more to bring abstract physics to the mainstream than anybody else, has died.

RIP Steven, going out like a true mathematics baller and dying on Pi Day

... Well, I don't know what to say about this. It's just a shame science has lost such a prolific figure.. I'm thankful for his contributions and I'm sure others will continue his work.

Also: Holy effing... I need to stop reading things.. Or at least things written by people who have serious health issues. Ephraim Kishon died when I started reading his work, Adams died around the time I read the Hitchhiker and now that I'm reading A Short History it's Hawking... I'm sure I'm not cursed but from a personal point of view it looks creepy.

Just saw this after getting home from work. It's a shame to lose such a great mind but...I mean...we knew this was all coming. It wasn't a matter of when, it was a matter of how long was he going to be ale to last. 76 for a man with his condition is damn good, frankly.

Rest In Peace Stephen Hawking indeed.

That it’s sad is all that others have said, and it’s all I’ll say.

I'm sad, but I'm also thankful. Thankful that it's now, and not the fifty years earlier he was originally told it would be. Even though we have to lose him now, the world got more of Professor Hawking than it expected to, and he brought us one step closer to understanding this place where we live.

I've never read his work, it's just never been on my list, but I'm going to see if they have some at my local library. He's been an inspiration to me as despite his disability massively impacting hoots life, it's not what defines him for me or many of my friends. That's been his work in physics, which would have been amazing anyway, and his personality.

Rest in Peace Professor Hawking. You have surely inspired thousands of people to follow in your footsteps, and may your legacy live as long as humanity.

He was an atheist so I doubt he's gonna be hanging out with any god.
He would also be deeply disappointed if there was one.

I don’t know about that. I like to believe that not believing in a god doesn’t make you sad if there is one. And sometimes I hope that religion isint the sole judge(haha) of ones character. Becuase Steven desserves good things. And I hope a god would give them to him.

It's a terrible news, I feel s sorry... But at the same time I can still see him playing in The Big Bang Theory episodes and The Simpsons and it makes me smile. He was a great man with an extraordinary sense of humour. He will be missed.

As Prof Tyson would say, it's time for him to return to the stars. He will be deeply missed. One of the greatest minds of all times has left us.

Like Anonymouswizard mentioned, we got more of him than we as species deserve. He was a true fighter, more than those who fight with bullet and knife. He conquered mind, soul and body. Truly a paragon of Humanity. Sole consolation is that he at least left this world knowing how valuable he is for all the scientific community and for the rest of us who like playing science once in a while.

    RIP Hawking. Really Impressive Person.

I'd recommend starting with A Briefer History of Time, and if that doesn't make your brain panic go on to the rest.

He fought a life of pain far longer than anyone should have to, and all the while contributed to the world at large, and physics in particular.

Rest in peace indeed, and thank you!

Professor Hawking was not only a brilliant physicist. He was also an incredible wit.

"Unfortunately, Eddie did not inherit my good looks." (This in reference to an actor who portrayed him.)
