    Default Monster manual question

Quick question. The 5e book does not have titans in it. Are empyreans supposed to be the titans of 5e? I always thought titans were much stronger than a cr 21 considering they fought gods.

    Nope - 3e Titans were CR21 too:

that said, one could have it that these are the "1st level warriors" of Titans, and that the god-fighters had power on a par with a 20th level PC, and then some, on top of that.

    Define "Titan".

5e has some beings that have the subtype titan, which include the Empyreans, the Krakens and the Tarrasque.

Also, given that the one god of which we know the stats is CR 30, it stand to reason that several immortal beings of CR 21 could fight a god.

Keep in mind that 3.X gods generally had between 30 and 40 levels of PC classes + 30-50 HD of Exterior, without even counting the powers from their Divine Ranks.

A CR 21 being in 5e is MUCH closer to the main gods' power level than a CR 21 being in 3.X.

What God are you talking about that has a cr 30?

I'm talking about Tiamat. As hamishspence said, she is stated in the last chapter of Rise of Tiamat.

She is, fittingly enough, the strongest being stated for 5e.

Was it actually Tiamat, or an avatar?

Alright thanks everyone. I'm gonna be making some titan variants soon so that the titans in my game are not all the same.

    Actual Tiamat, by all indications.

Well, you haven't defined what you wanted for the titans.

What kind of beings would you want them to be?

And here are some definitions from the 5e DMG.

Related question: is Tiamat a lesser or greater deity? From the same DMG sidebar, only greater deities manifest avatars. Also, a greater deity's avatar is similar to the actual form of a lesser deity.

I had posted about them yesterday. They are basically beings that were wished away to eternal burial on a strange island many years ago. They are now coming back to life because a villain is casting a ritual to bring them back to life. I am most likely going to make them elemental. Possibly things like earth, fire, storm, shadow.

In that case, I'd advise you to check out the stats of the Elemental Evils from "Princes of the Apocalypse".

    They're basically that.

    They sound like primordials.

I think the only mention of primordials in a core 5e book, beside the Primordial language, is at the start of the planar ally spell.

    And most likely primordials too.
