I think it likely that Higgs is the person that the Jager draught was designed for, so it worked properly on him. That the draught also worked passably well on others and gave them monstrous characteristics was just an added bonus. Who has time to rework one's "elixir of eternal life and stuff" formula for every immortal soldier you want in your army anyway?

I am reassured that the vendor purveying frozen fish on a chip is licensed. Otherwise, terrible things could happen. The Brits do dine on, among other things, Deep Fried Mars Bars. Given that level of culinary depravity, frozen fish are not out of the question.

Right side of the screen: "FOG...".
Left side of the screen: "...LIOS".
Selling hats. Of course the Foglios sell hats, just in case the Jagers ever reach London.
The clank standing guard is wearing a Bearskin chimney. Given that they are fathoms below the surface, one assumes these are the Coldstream Guards.

Given that a fathom is only 6 feet, and that we can see what appear to be fairly tall buildings (is that supposed to be St. Paul's Cathedral?), Gil's "we're several fathoms beneath the surface" is a bit of an understatement.

That dome is very St. Paul's - ish. The dome is, per the faultless Wikipedia, 278 feet tall. A mere 47 fathoms. Is 47 several?

Maybe it's "several fathoms" to the top of the dome the buildings are presumably contained within? Or else the Foglios don't know what a fathom is...

I'd guess the latter. Most people don't look up terms before using them for flavor, so why should the Foglios be any different.

Possibly, Gil is the one who doesn't know a fathom is six feet; it's a nautical term, not an aviation one. I think that it's more likely that Gil meant the entire city was at a minimum several fathoms below the surface. We don't know how large the waves are above London. Current record for the Channel appears to be about 10m (5.5 fathoms), so a dome 10 fathoms deep would presumably never experience a wave crashing down on it.

Phileas Fogg would be a BioShock reference rather than a Jules Verne reference? In this context? Or is that the joke?

After all of this forum talk about British cuisine, we need some serious in comic exploration of the topic.

I don't just mean a frozen fish on a stick. Nor a cat using a stick to catch a fish. No, we need something to really drive home British food

    Spoiler

a fish as a lead singer, with a band of clanks as backup, would be " Fish and The Chips"

    J'ACCUSE!

Gil begins the strip with his fish on a chip, but by the end he doesn't have it - and we don't see another trash can! He must have thrown it on the ground, and defiled the sacred streets of London!

A museum of Inconvenient Oddities sounds exactly like the sort of place Madwa would want to get into. And she's probably capable of disguising herself as someone who has access.

So we may get to see Trelawny Thorpe and Gilgamesh Wulfenbach in action together against a dangerous Smoke Knight, in the middle of Her Majesty's museum, as G & T cobble together a "We can spot even Madwa no matter how well she hides" device from the exhibits.
