How's V 's ligth spell following them?
Hello, new member here, being a lurker sicne the grey sky city part.
One thing has being bugging me and that's why decided to register and ask, isn't the ligth spell immobile unless it's cast on a movable object?
How can V's ligth spell go all skyrim and follow the group?
Anyway hope this is not a dumb question. Bye.Last edited by Poiuytrewq; 2018-03-30 at 05:43 PM.

It's also well within the effects of dancing lights, which has appeared before in a very different capacity. Much like summoning vs calling, it's probably not worth the confusion to casual readers, compared to using a different name.

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
True, but dancing lights has the one minute duration vs ten per level for light. Of course, if we're able to handwave away the motion issue with the light spell, we are equally able to handwave away the dancing lights time limit, so it doesn't really matter much either way.

Blackwing's obviously been blowing on it when we're not looking.

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
Clearly V cast it on that Orange Prism Ioun Stone they've had for a while now.
You just can't see it because it was bought off screen and it's such a small object.

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
SRD's description of Light states that "This spell causes an object to glow like a torch, [...]", and the target of the spell is "touched object". Thus, in 3.5, it must be cast upon an object, and we saw V casting it freely in the air (and no, I'll not delve into a "the air is an object" discussion).
So, it's safe to conclude that "handwaving away this limitation" is being used here.
That said, it's worthy to note that previous editions had Light being cast without a specific target, illuminating an area (thus even then, for the spell to move, it should be cast in a movable object/subject.Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
It's not a Light spell. It's Varsuvius's Most Puissant Mobile Sphere of Illumination, which just so happens to have "Light" as its verbal component.
Be sure you get that right in the OotS Magic Compendium thread!Last edited by Lord Torath; 2018-03-29 at 10:07 AM. Reason: Added link to OotS Magic Compendium

I've posted it in the appropriate thread, but I'm not completely sure they'll take it seriously...

Besides, the Light spell might be cast on a very mobile object... a molecule of air, which he has leashed to follow him via a heretofore undisclosed minor magical trinket in his backpack.

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
That's exactly what I said I wouldn't delve into... and I won't
I still prefer the elegant solution of Ultimate* Varsuvius's Most Puissant Mobile Sphere of Illumination, "UV Light" for short.
*Added the "Ultimate" for the pun, Lord Torath, I hope you don't mind...Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
It's not really a light spell, it's Roy's Archon in disguise.

Re: How's V 's ligth spell following them?
Or maybe it's Vaarsuvius's Flamefinger spell, introduced in the prequel book On the origin of the PCs, page 50. Buy the prequel books, people, they're great.
(Wait, have I tried this before?)
