    The phantom has some cool utility features. But it is not as powerful as an eldion or animal companion in regular combat. I have built both Farmer Joe and his phantom as mellee combatants though.

    There are some super cool fear synergies for phantoms. But in my experience too many critters are immune to fear, so I did not pursue it.

    So I petitioned a couple of my friends, and they checked it out, but weren't interested. We can either carry on with just the 3 of you guys, or I can open the spots to the public and see what happens. I'm ok with either choice, and either will work. I'm not overly worried about party balance or anything, it's easy to tailor the game to the party. If you did want to open it up to the public we could try to get people to fill specific roles, or we could just leave the slots open and if you guys find people who might be interested in playing at some point in the future they could just jump in. Let me know what you think :)

    I'm happy to go along with what everyone wants, but I don't think we really need more players. Plus, it's good to have space if other people want to join later.

    Another option to consider is a friendly NPC to round out the party, or even having the PCs run multiple characters.

    Hey so I am not sure how we want this to work. I am currently playing it that Farmer Joe has his powers. But does not understand them or know how to use them yet. And he was going to stumble upon them one by one.

    But I realized you may have been intending to have an actual moment in the campaign were we actually get our powers. I may have just interpreted the description in your intro wrong.

    Given that it's the first time flexing this particular power for Jeri, she may be not be bluffing in her own shock/horror at the appearance of the shadow. So I'm not sure how much of a Bluff this is, since it's not too far from the truth.

    Actually I did think of that. But then I figured a bucket full of poo would be over 5lbs. If you have a crowded room of people crapping in a single bucket it would only take 5 or 6 people.

    Also Joe does not care if he gets killed. But Brandnewb does not really want his character dead yet. Throwing poop at the Captain is probably a hang-able offense.

    Edit: Although the irrational rage monkey I am trying to create would probably throw the poop. So maybe in the interest of authentic RP I should just do it.

    Alternatively, it could fly wildly at Quinn, and Quinn could reflexively cast Shield to protect himself. Might be a bit safer than throwing it at the captain, and gives Quinn a chance to discover his own powers.

    I was hoping to use it as a way for Joe to discover his Oth spell telekinetic projectile.

    As far as his more interesting powers... I want to save my little friend for now. Plus Joe does not have any idea what the being inside him is. Or what it can do. So he is not able to use it.


    Although I have to say that when I saw we were captive I started to realized how amazing the phantom is for someone trying to escape captivity. Looking at the size of ships a massive 120 gun ship of the line is only 200ft long. I could probably just go send the phantom to walk through walls and find me the key.

    FWIW, on a meta level, Jeri is persuadable if this captain does have some particular goal in mind; if it's just slavery and death here versus slavery and death there, he's gonna get option B though.

    Just want to clarify something before we get too deep into it. Although psychic magic does not require verbal/somatic/material components, there would still be other cues that you are casting spells. I just figured I'd mention it based on some of your descriptions, but people would know that you are responsible for the magic, even if you yourself were not entirely sure how the power manifested itself as you begin to understand your new capabilities.

    FAQ on that here, as it apparently caused a lot of arguments when it came out!
