Seeing the hobgoblin and wyvern fall to the ground on the far side of camp, Veric smacked Rollo's butt.

"Go get 'im boy!" That was all the encouragement the wolf needed as he sprinted around until he found an enemy and took a long moment to bark at the hobgoblin ferociously.

"Woof woof woof woof!"

Satisfied that his erstwhile companion had that situation under control, Veric went the opposite direction and fired off a shot at the still airborne wyvern.

Torg brought down a few more bolts of lightning, but the concentrated archery fire was what truly brought the remaining wyvern down.

As the group scoured the area for valuables, the dwarf cleared his throat and addressed his companions.
"I know the plan is to move on to the next camp, and I'm still for that, make no mistake. But I asked the wind for a gift today, a spell. If'n I cast it, I can track things through the air. Might be I could see where these wyverns came from. Could lead me to the main encampment of their army...

What do you think? Wild goose chase? There's a time limit on the magic; if we wait too long, the aerial tracks will be too weak."

Septimus eyes had glazed over few several minutes as his Azlanti ring injected his brain with the ability to carelessly fling himself and friends great distances through the unseen astral fabric that made this plane obey sensible rules of space of time. Also he learned fluent Infernal. This time, the twisted piece of black iron had left a brand on his finger. He grunted and shook his hand to sooth the pain.

"Uh. Thanks, dad." As the thought escaped his lips, he was surprised to realize he was nearly sincere.

"Torg, I'm all for it. If you can find their camp now, that'll save me days of riding around the hills like a crazy person. I don't know if we can defeat a whole army by ourselves, but at this point I have enough spells to fireball them until I get bored and now I can teleport back to Longshadow. So, yes, please find me something to incinerate."

The dwarf nods, his face a dour mask of seriousness.

"Wind, show your servant the secret prints left on the air..."

As he cast the spell, he transformed into his roc form, his fastest. His eyes could see strange swirls and ripples in the air where the wyverns had flown... a path for him to follow.

Torg casts Aerial Tracks. Taking 10 on survival gets him a 23; a large creature on soft ground starts at DC 9 (the default for Aerial Tracks), +1 for every 24 hours, so Torg can follow a wyvern trial roughly 2 weeks old; older if they were flying in a large group.

The spell lasts 10 hours.

After casting a spell to make the wyverns' contrails magically visible to his eyes, Torg found that the majority of the trails created by the dragon-like beasts pointed in a familiar direction: Longshadow. Several trails also lead in different directions out over the hills or in the general direction of the forest, while a few went north or northwest into the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains. These Torg knew were dangerous lands, filled with fire drakes or worse.

After several minutes circling in the air and examining the mystic contrails, roc-Torg landed once more near his companions.

"Hmm... nothing terribly useful to go on up there. I was hoping that most of the wyverns came from a unified direction, but they seem to be from scattered points on the compass. Likely came from the forest or the Mindspin Mountains. There were quite a few trails heading towards Longshadow, but that's not surprising; they've probably been conducting scouting runs by cover of darkness.

It was worth a shot, but I don't think it's worth pursuing any further. Shall we make for the last camp? Warbeasts, were it?"

"Well it was worth a try. Thanks anyway Torg." Ulva gave him a wide smile and a stilted thumbs up as her single eye closed from the intense muscular expression of platonic endearment and enthusiasm. Clenching her iron fist she brought it to her face and gestured to the north "OH! We should have Torg assume the form of whatever kind of beasties they have on hand. That way we can get more people up close and personal before they realize what's happening. I mean, if you want to that is, Torg...." Her train of thought suddenly drifted as she awkwardly nodded her head to the much shorter druid.

"Right. All aboard the Torg Express. Let's smash the last camp and be done with it."

There work done with the wyverns, the Fangbreakers set off for the final camp noted in the documents they'd found. They sped their way northeast, skirting the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains, and stopped about a half mile away from their intended destination. To that point, they'd seen no sign of their foes.

Coming from the south by necessity, the Fangbreakers approached the camp's expected position nestled in the arms of several large hills that seemed to be transitioning from soil to stone. The adventurers stopped a safe distance away - far enough to make out the shapes of what must have been minotaurs going about camp business near a fire set outside the mouth of a cave. The cave itself seemed to be blocked by some sort of fence; a large gate was set in the middle. A watchtower stood outside and slightly right of the cave entrance manned with a pair of hobgoblins. Behind the watchtower were animal pens enclosing a collection of animals (wolves, hounds, and several raptors). A pair of wolves prowled beneath the watchtower, while an alarmingly large wyvern lazed before the cave. The smells of animal dung hung in the wind while sounds of inhuman bellowing echo from the darkness of the cave.

Septimus felt his spell go off...and for a moment there was no change. Then the group of minotaurs around the fire started looking around, at each other, up, even back toward the cave. Several of the Fangbreakers could hear a few mention a "weird feeling" just then, and the enormous wyvern growled, stretched, and took a few steps forward. The lone minotaur in the gate, however, stood still.

Combat is joined, though the baddies may or may not be completely aware of your presence. Everyone gets a surprise round (Septimus just used his). Aidan, Nora, Septimus, Torg, Ulva, and Rollo have won initiative. Veric and Jean did not. Womp womp.

Do note that the map is turned so that NORTH is RIGHT on the map, instead of UP. You may place yourselves anywhere on the map outside the cave because invisibility. And outside 30' range of the wolves because they could smell you otherwise.

Swinging around the west to form a pincer flank, Ulva charged at the lone Minotaur soldier shattering her invisibility, and unleashed a flurry of wide swings and heavy thrusts as she growled and cursed in Aklo.
