Question Do Cure spells work on true Constructs like Golems or Psicrystals?

    Greetings, all!

I wasn't sure if this were a simple question. Constructs like Golems and Psicrystals, but not Warforged, are immune to "necromancy effects." Cure light wounds and its derivatives target "creature touched" and make no mention of how it affects Constructs since such spells are Conjurations, not Necromancies. Psionic repair damage and other repair spells explicitly affect only Constructs.

Therefore, what is your verdict and why?

    Thankee!

When laying your hand upon a living creature, you channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +5).

Since undead are powered by negative energy, this spell deals damage to them instead of curing their wounds. An undead creature can apply spell resistance, and can attempt a Will save to take half damage.

Constructs aren't living creatures and as such don't benefit from Cure spells.

In Races of Eberron you can find the Greater Humanoid Essence spell which will turn a Construct into a Humanoid for the duration during which time it can benefit from cure spells.

Lesser humanoid essence already achieves that for a signficantly lower spell slot cost. As an aside, simply becoming humanoid doesn't actually automatically qualify a construct for being affected by cure spells, if it still lacks a con score, it still fails to qualify as a living creature. Of course, since greater humanoid essence inherits the benefits of lesser humanoid essence, it still lets the construct be healed by cure spells.

All humanoids are living creatures. It's right there in the type description iirc.

Warforged, an official player race that are basically constructs (but from the Eberron setting) can benefit from cure spells, but only at half benefit. Taking certain feats also cause them to receive no benefit from cure spells.

Generally I would say say that constructs therefore can not benefit from the cure-series of spells unless they have a specific modification that allows them to accept it, and even then at only half benefit and it comes with a lot of vulnerabilities, such as a loss of immunity to critical hits.

As others noted, generally, cure spells do not work on constructs (warforged being the notable exception), as they are not "living" creatures. There is a repair series of spells, worded similarly to teh cure spells, that works on constructs.

As a fun tidbit, this means that cure spells will not only work on Warforged, but will also work on Rogue Modrons since they're also Living Constructs.

Still no word on Woeforged, though.
