Ronnie Corbett & Ronnie Barker are a duo that I've always found hilarious.

I mean, some of them are Comedians, and can be Comedic Actors (and vice verses), but it's hard to say they excel at both.
Depends on the person. Bob Newhart was an excellent comedian before he became a comic actor. So were Bill Cosby, Andy Griffith, Abbott & Costello, Robin Williams, and many others.

The Marx Brothers turned a music act into a comedy act into comic acting.

The skill sets aren't identical, but they do overlap.

Often comedians become comic actors simply because there's more money in it.

I was wondering if anyone else would mention Cosby. I loved his humor (esp. his older stuf), but I'm struggling with how I feel about him after recent events.

I'll also tack on old George Carlin, Weird Al, and Eddie Murphey.

I have no problem with it, frankly. He's a terrible person, but was a funny guy. Imean, I don't like Hitler, but I can still look at his paintings and say, "huh, he was pretty good at that."

    So many choices.

Comedian I loved to watch with my Dad: Lucille Ball
Comedian I'm most likely to quote: Monty Python.
Comedian most likely to make me think: George Carlin
    Best Comedic family: the Marxes
    Best non-human comedian: Bugs Bunny

Jean-Marc Parent, a Quebec comedian/storyteller. The man is an incredible improvisational storyteller, and just Cant. Stop. Going. On. Tangents. His 2-hour shows usually last 4h30, and you dont ever feel bored.

I think hes the only comedian who pulled a full 24 hour solo show.

Pierre Légaré is sort of a philosophical comedian, sometimes actually going into more epistemological jokes. Loved him since I was 12.

Anyone a fan of Dennis Miller? I haven't seen/heard any of his stuff, but he was satirized on an old episode of Family Guy making him seem as though his stuff is very intellectual. Is his stuff of that caliber?

I should watch that again sometime. Shame it did so well, I hear Brooks was ruined! Also, IIRC, the original was where the phrase "creative accounting."

Anyway, two Hollywood type fave comedians/comic actors/comic writers. Mel Brooks and Albert Brooks. Albert Brooks is criminally underrated, IMO.

I remember him doing Monday night football and discussing how in one game so many players had switched sides over the years "it's like the Pantagenets!"

Since humor translates poorly, probably nobody here has ever heard of Loriot. But I think he was even funnier than Monty Python. I did find probably his most famous video with English subtitles, and I think this one translates quite well.
Like Monty Python, he's still endlessly quoteable in Germany.

I find it hard to believe that no one has mentioned Doug Kenney. He started National Lampoon, and wrote Caddyshack and Animal House. Also SNL was his idea but due to other circumstances others took off with it.

Bill Murray, John Belushi, Harold Ramis, John Candy are all great comic actors in my opinion. And I will always miss Robin Williams...I'm just realizing that only one of these actors is still alive and I am sad now.

For stand up Trevor Noah, John Mulaney, Chappelle are great. I like Aziz's stuff too, and I know there are couple Netflix specials where it's the comic's only special that I liked but I can't remember their names now.

John Oliver is fantastic. Key and Peele's sketch show is great, though I am glad they stopped it cause they've shown they're talented enough to do more than that.
