Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Maeni's spell just barely brings the woman to consciousness. She blinks, and something about her is not quite "there," but nor is she violent anymore.
Is Corbin just looking for paper for paper's sake, regardless of what's on it, for his "personal supply?"
He listens at the door and doesn't hear anything, and a search doesn't reveal any traps.

If the parchment has anything interesting on it, Corbin will start rooting around for useful information out of curiosity and to share with the group. Otherwise, he'll just stuff whatever is clean enough to write on in his pack.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Corbin soon learns that there are no "spare sheafs of parchment" laying about for future writing endeavors. In fact, a lot of the papers in here are very dense with a lot of information. The personal histories and treatment records of Briarstone's patients are stored here ... this is the Records Room. The room's recent ransacking destroyed much of the room's order, but not its contents.

Flair gives the woman much the same spiel as the man from before: You have 3 options: Join us, promise to leave us alone, or screw with us and die.

Björn nods and begins to move away... Then shakes his head and comes back to start looking at the records to see if there is any mention of himself or the others.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Flair, the woman is terrified, confused ... and doesn't seem to know who she is or what she's doing here (or who you are, for that matter). She has no idea how she has suffered these crushing injuries ... nor why she is even alive.
"Remind me that you and I need to have a talk later," says Gaye to Flair ominously. She then tends to the battered woman as best she can.
So, Björn and Corbin are looking around for clues, looking through records and the like. Flair is ostensibly guarding over Gaye as she ministers to the woman. Zoo is set to guard the entrance from any wanderers. That leaves Bangs, Haru, and Maeni to likewise look for clues in all of the dross of files.
I will assume that others are also looking through records or for clues, with Haru acting as the torch-bearer (and provider) for everyone. The room's recent ransacking has destroyed much of the room's order. While the PCs could find details on the backgound of almost any of the asylum's patients here, it would take hours to do so and result only in largely mundane trivia.
After a few hours, Corbin finds a record. Because of Björn's foreign name, it doesn't strike the tengu that there would be many patients with that name, yet he finds a record about a patient with such a name, a file for one Björn Vinter.
Spoiler: File of Björn VinterPatient Name: Vinter, Björn.
Race/ Ethnicity: Human/ Ulfen.
Sex: Male.
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 240 lbs.
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Religion: Cayden Cailean
Date of Admittance: 24 Arodus 4716 AR
Admittance Notes: Px admitted to Briarstone Asylum by Count Haserton Lowls. Px believed to have worked for Count Lowls in some capacity prior to being institutionalized. Px is an amnesiac suffering from a fugue statue. Björn will read through his file once... Then again... and then several more times trying to grasp the implications. Lowls? Who is this person? Cayden Cailean? He shakes his head and paces back and forth thinking while occasionlly glancing back in the file...

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
So, folks. Here is the question ... it will take hours to search through this place. Corbin, being a master linguist, is able to come up with the idea that instead of trying to read each file and determine "Is that me? Is that you?" .... he is able to come up with the idea to look at the admittance notes. Surely, the rest of you are likely to have similar admission notes and prognosis of amnesiac, and that may help you sift faster through files.
If that is what you do. It will still take all of the rest of the day (and maybe a late day at that), to search through the files, even with Corbin's suggestion. Do you look through the files, using Corbin's suggestion to weed through the chaff to find your own files?

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Flair was angry, He had good reason to continue his spiel to include the treat, regardless of what Gaye thinks, but the diatribe about the importance of security would have to wait. If there was data about himself or any of the other patients here, it might have a clue on how to get out of this mess. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath before turning to his allies. "This sounds like a good idea. If nothing else, I don't want to tap our healers anymore today if I don't have to, and if we can find out the 'why' of our predicament, we might discover the 'how' and therefore the 'how do we get out of here'. If any of you feel differently, speak up now. I'm not entirely comfortable about splitting the party so some do research and others venture out, but we can do it if you feel we should."
He then turns to the scared woman he unfortunately scared more. "Regardless, we need to get the new survivor to what safety we can provide. Unless anyone objects, I suggest Zoo, Bangs and myself escort her to the chapel then return here posthaste to help in this endeavor." Barring objections, he calls Bang and Zoo and forward and they help the woman to her feat before bringing her to the chapelAvatar by Coronalwave

Once Zoo realizes this is going to be a deep dive into the records he returns to human shape and leans against the door frame as he keeps watch.
When Flair suggests moving the woman back to camp, he perks up and readies himself to leave. He hopes to ask the woman about her favorite foods along the way in case he's able to make something other than gruel soon.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
The woman doesn't remember her favorite foods. You take her back to Captain York and Winter, and with the others, she is kept under guard and restrained like the other folks in yellow robes that you captured. And then that group returns to the records.
Yes, it takes many long hours, but here is what you find. Note that it does help that Corbin's suggestion seemed correct, and as such patient notes shall not be repeated with the exception of where they offer additional information. One set of patients notes does not include an admittal on 24 Arodus 4716 AR, but Flair recognizes the name and couldn't help himself ...

Date of Admittance: 14 Desnus 4715 AR
Physical Note: Patient suffers from dwarfism, but is human, not a dwarf.
Admission Notes: Lord Hanley was placed in the care of Briarstone Asylum by his father, in lieu of execution for his son’s many crimes as a confidence man, despite never having committed a capital crime. Given his record, it is believed that Px does in fact need excellent care of Briarstone Asylum, and that he is not actually criminal but verifiably insane. It is doctor’s belief that Px suffers as a pathological liar, sociopathy, delusional psychoses, bipolar disorder, and hallucinatory schizophrenia. While possessed of a keen intellect, there were several subject matters that he has been bested in by subject matter experts on our staff. Despite being possessed of a beastly appearance, the one area where he seems to have the most confounding aptitude is in psychology. He probably could have been a gifted psychiatrist, were it not for being insane and without a dram of human empathy. He is able to effectively weaponize his mastery of psychology to the point that has ruined several prominent men through the power of rumormongering alone. It is possible, but not verified, that he may actually be a psychic. Even if he is, it is just as likely that he channels his unholy perspicacity through malicious intuition rather than any real training. It is this attending physician’s belief that he can strengthen himself to criminal portions through any associations, and therefore should be kept isolated with books to pacify him.
- 29 Neth 47115 AR: It is the attending physican’s belief that Px has been wildly defamed by his father, the authorities, and even Adminstrator Losandro. Px possesses the most pleasant accord and is made of the stuff of perfect gentleman. Only an accident of birth and physicality is the only monstrosity possessed by Px, and he has been slandered at every turn. No wonder he was anti-social at our first meeting, and I believed he lies. No, I shall make it my mission to see that young Lord Hanley be reserved to his proper place in society.
- 13 Arodus 4716 AR: I love him with all of my soul. I don’t care if I right this in his record. I don’t care what others say. I will give my life if I must to see that he be freed. Lord Hanley says I must stay the course so that he may be truly freed and not a fugitive. I love you, my little lord, if only this little page ever be the record of it. And Dr. Losandro will rue the day she ever dared suspend my recommendation for your freedom!

Count Lowls also gave a ridiculous title that meant nothing to us, but demanded it be written: “Ex-Assistente del Cardinale Carlo Rezzonico, Cardinale al Santo Padre, Papa Pio VI.” All gibberish, and I tire of this long day of the Counts’ ridiculous demands and all of these amnesiacs coming into admissions.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Flair wished there was a chair he could slump into, because the sliding against wall until he sat roughly against it didn't seem big enough. These names. He knew almost all of these names, or at least the people they belonged to. Barring incredible coincidence, at least. Seriously, how many other 5'9'', purple-haired, grey-eyed dhampir women named Gaye could there really be anyway? It lead to some interesting ideas. There were names from both iterations here. Maybe his hypothesis about there only being 2 of 3 versions running concurrently was accurate. Also of note that Maeni was listed as a regular human, but that was clearly not the case. Perhaps some strange event transformed her to be like this? It might explain why Corbin, or at least an identifiable name for him wasn't listed.
Of course, there was the entry that bore the name that was once his. He didn't feel like a "Flavio", but that was the least of his concerns. He was apparently connected to a church or cult of some kind, but to who or what they prayed he does not know. Apparently he was at least moderately well positioned in the group, as he was an assistant of one the higher ups. Perhaps this "Cardinale Carlo Rezzonico" was on the head man's (who took the not-at-all-vain title of Pious the Sixth) council. Still, that's not what he found the most troubling.
The troubling part is that apparently he wanted to be called by his clerical title when he committed violent acts. That didn't sound like him at all. I mean, he knew how to fight and wouldn't hesitate to do so if needed, but the vanity and hubris that suggested were totally foreign to him. If possible, he liked to talk it out rather than fight. He went out of his way to be merciful if he could. Not only did he want to treat with the rat people, he offered sanctuary to two people today! The cruelty that Flavio seemed to enjoy was such a foreign concept to Flair.
It would easy to lie to himself. Tell himself that Flavio was some incarnation of evil that has been cleansed to forge the version of himself he calls Flair, but he knows better. Regardless of his sins, he was a man. And people are complex things, not all one ideal. He was flesh and blood, so he had good things and bad things. No doubt some of his positive traits were inherited from his previous persona, and not all of his negatives were due to the man he once was. That part will always be there, deep within and pretending otherwise would be disingenuous at best and could cause a fractured sense of identity at worst. Like he said back when he saw his first ghoul. What matters in this world is the choices you make, not your intentions. And what Flair will choose is to not be Flavio. Everyday, with every action, he will be his own man and not the monster he once was.
He smirked. At least Heck was right about the priest thing, he thought idly. It was by sheer coincidence that just then they found his sheet and Flair asked them to hand it to him. What he read made him feel quite disturbed, though if he was being honest, the emotion it triggered most was anger. Apparently Heck, his research companion and budding friend, was playing him and everyone around him for a fool. He trusted that twisted little pezzo di merda. He fell for his bull completely. He even thought he was kinda cute, but it was all just a game to him. He'd have played him just like he played his attending physician. While he didn't want to make threats given what he'd just found out about his earlier self, it was probably a good thing that they weren't in the same iteration right now, or he'd test exactlyhow much of Flavio's violent tendencies he could tap.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
After looking over the file with the same name as his, Haru looks closely at his hands, staring at them for an uncomfortable amount of time. He never really thought about his skin tone before now. It never really occurred to him that he had been burned. Everything about him had always felt natural, like he had always been that way. How would the burns explain his tail though? He couldn't imagine that being a result of burns. But everything else seemed to match up. What could have been the cause of this. Could he have....been changed? It wouldn't be the weirdest thing that he's ever seen here. But even then, he finds it hard to believe.

Going through her file, Maeni quickly dismiss it.
So I was... more human looking when I arrived here ? I suppose it must mean something. Dunnow what though. And it will make sense when it will. Because so far, it doesn't bring a lot of new informations.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Gaye shakes her head and tosses her record to the side. "No, not impressed. It seems some higher power is playing a game. Everyone, stop looking at the records like they're the real deal. They're not. I and Dorn showed up here together, a second before the Splatter Man and his cronies would've killed us in the burnt out prison at Harrowstone ... outside the town of Ravengro ... in the Palatinates. Now, the chaplain's message says that the year is four years later than we did that. But Dorn and I both remember appearing here from that very point in time. So, someone else is having a lark. They might be clues to your real names, but not real events. I and Dorn did not suffer an exactly similar psychotic episode and we've both lost four years of time.
"It doesn't even make sense! I wouldn't look much different. But let's assume that it's true. That means for those of you that met Dorn as we seem to be doing this strange reality shell game knows that he is fifty years old. He looks exactly like he did four years ago. Surely, four years lost doing other things before showing up here would mean he would now have visibly aged. We should've died, but here I am ... and there Dorn was."11APR2024: Completed reading Paizo's Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Demons Revisited (2013, Jacobs).

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Bangs (Jens Ronnie Turnbull)
After a mind numbingly long time sifting through documents, Bangs finally comes upon what appears to be his file. It mentions Count Lowls, like the others, the physical description seems right, but that is all he feels. There is no sense of familiarity, no sense that the name 'belongs.' If someone shouted that name at Bangs he wouldn't even think to turn around. The mention about being a 'Lutheran' is similarly non-provocative. They are merely characters on a page that would be completely foreign to him if the physical description didn't happen to match.

Corbin shakes his head and tosses a final stack of paper into one of the many neat piles he's created while organizing this mess. "There's nothing here I recognize." He rubs his temples and sits cross-legged, thinking. "I need to find my damned journal. I'm sure I kept one. And I'm sure someone took it from me before this whole mess started. At least some of you found some answers here."

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
The records of the group are collected and the group returns back to Winter Klasczka for the evening and for debriefing.
Do you show her the patient records affecting the party (all the ones above)? Do you mention anything else specific in the debriefing other than the general exploration and combat for the day?11APR2024: Completed reading Paizo's Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Demons Revisited (2013, Jacobs).

Zoo suggests showing the file on Heck to Winter. If he's really as dangerous as the file seems to imply then being warned about him should prove helpful.
Otherwise, Zoo is willing to show the file matching him. It didn't seem damning enough to hide and he quite liked the sound of the name.
He also offers to make some food for the prisoners and deliver it under guard if required.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Flair rolled his eyes at Gaye's denial. "Yes. Because someone knew we were coming and rather than set a highly customized trap to get each of us personally, they instead left counterfeit records for us to find. Think, woman. What would they gain from lying to us this way? Half of us don't even remember our maledetto" he slips into Infernal again. "names to begin with. How does this make it more confusing? Also, you may have not noticed, but reality here is malleable. I've blinked between two alternate versions of these halls. Is it so odd to believe that time isn't inviolate here as well?"
He shakes his head. "Even if you're right and the timeline prevents you from having been here when it says, I just don't see a reason why someone would go out of their way to create forged institutionalization documents for us. Unless some pervert was hoping you'd try to prove the files wrong by flashing everyone you pubic hair, I can't see even a small upside." He puts his hand to his chin in thought. "Either way, they've given us a lot to think about. More questions with no answers in sight. Let's head back to the chapel and see what Winter makes of this. Another set of eyes might prove helpful."Last edited by digiman619; 2018-09-25 at 09:32 PM.

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Back at the chapel, and as Zoo hands her the various records, Winter recognizes some names, but not others. (The party gets back to late for Zoo to begin dinner. It's already underway.)
Flair voices his concern particularly concerning Lord Hanley. Her faces scrunches up and looks around. "Who the heck is He-, Lord Hanley?"
She looks at the party and the files. "Tiefling, tengu ... and I don't even know," she adds at the end, looking at Maeni. "However it works, the races - when those in front of me are actually human, have spot on height/ weight. Something transformative definitely happened. Let's see, tengu stand about a foot shorter than a man."
She studies the papers a little longer. She looks at ethnicity and the naming conventions. "Haru, it says here you were a Tian-Min man. Do you speak Tien or the like that you know of? Do you know the meaning of your name or intuit a language related to it? Then see if anyone else here speaks that language."11APR2024: Completed reading Paizo's Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Demons Revisited (2013, Jacobs).

One part was weighing on him about this discovery. "Forgive me, but I need to get a frame of reference. What year is it now and how long has it been since these were written?"

Re: Strange Aeons: In Search of Sanity II [IC - Group #2]
Winter is quiet for a few seconds as she is in thought. "It's 4716 AR. I came with Royal Accuser Omari on the 30th to Thrushmoor. The next day, we came here for our inspection and then everything fell apart. So, assuming those records are legitimate, they are only a few weeks old. It seems I and the Royal Accuser showed up one week to the day after you were admitted.
"Unfortunately, everyone I've questioned has trouble being sure about the day. The best I can figure is that it is now somewhere between the 10th and 14th of Rova."11APR2024: Completed reading Paizo's Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Demons Revisited (2013, Jacobs).
