The "Sa" race
A basic google search has turned up exactly nothing beyond the homebrew page itself. Have any of you played as Sa before? I only just started DnD this year, and had to play as a dragonborn fighter for my crew the last time (very lame) so this time I went a little too nuts and did a homebrew Sa Gambler. It's been an interesting character to throw together, but I wanted to see what other people have thought about using this homebrew race.

Re: The "Sa" race
I'm not even getting that homebrew page you mention. Only viable result is this thread.
Might be handy if you link to said page, otherwise we'll have no idea what you're talking about.Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Re: The "Sa" race
Okay, well that helps. And it turns out it's spelled "Sā," with a line over the a. That might have been why Google wasn't turning it up.
Here's the link.

Re: The "Sa" race
dandwiki is not well regarded, since it's basically a repository for un-reviewed homebrew.
In this case, the race has some unobjectionable bits, and some very poorly defined bits. Like, can you "spend" more HP than you have? 5e doesn't kill you at 0 HP, and there are no negatives. What kind of action do you take for 1 hour to "grow a dermis" which lasts for 1 hour? Can you just constantly "grow a dermis" in the background, so you ignore the penalty?
The armor penalty doesn't matter for a well-rolled Barbarian, and the racial stats match up perfectly for a Barbarian, so I suspect this race was made by someone who wanted to play a Barbarian. The rage-centric quote at the very start would seem to be circumstantial evidence in support of this conjecture.
It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not very good either.
Certainly not in comparison to the Za race:
I want you to PEACH me as hard as you can.

Re: The "Sa" race
Disagree.
Quoth the wiki: "...Sā began to be born skinless to avoid jungle rot from the intensely humid conditions..."
But... the skin is the second-largest organ in the immune system. Between the acid mantle/alkaline blood and the keratin plating of the stratum corneum, it's the major barrier to fungal infection. Losing it to prevent jungle rot is like taking off your front door to keep burglars from breaking in.Last edited by Solaris; 2018-07-15 at 04:08 PM.

Re: The "Sa" race
If they're specifically evolved to spend their time swimming in stomach acid, why do they take penalties from being in water? And shouldn't tehy have immunity to acid, or something?

Re: The "Sa" race
Thanks for the input all. My group let me make some adjustments (namely immunity to acid which ended up saving my bacon in last night's campaign). Where would I go for reviewed homebrews to avoid future missteps into broken characters?
