Does confusion cause a creature to make multiple attacks?

One of the possible rolls for confusion causes a creature to make a melee attack against an adjacent creature. If the creature making the attack has multiple attacks because of a class feature (eg. fighter) or has multiple attacks due to racial features, do they use all of them or just one of them?

It specifically says "a" melee attack, singular, so I would say no.
