Wrath of the Righteous - Worldwound Incursion [IC]

Skerak crosses his arms. "...Fine. If this detour is what it takes to keep the group together, so be it."

"Then it's settled. We'll take the blind elf to the library and then get to my home" Horgus says. "I think you're right about it being safest where you are though. So once I've given you your reward, I'll go to Defender's Heart.

"I..." Esper says. "We need to make sure that word gets out. I'm sure the demons are moving on already, but the crusade must know that it started here" She looks torn. "I'll go"
She walks to Shauna, and presents the hilt of Radiance. "Be sure to slay a demon or two for me."

It's time to set off. The going is still slow with Aravashinal blind and Anevia needing her crutch or a shoulder. The streets are cluttered, and in places quite impassable, especially for Anevia and Aravashinal. Taking the clearer streets takes precious time.

Before you reach the library itself, you hear a scream. Not uncommon in Kenabres now, but this one is close, just a street over.

Shauna grips her new longsword with a worried expression when she hears the scream. "No...we have to help them!"

She nods to Skerak. "Let's go!" and then runs in pursuit of the voice.

Skerak does what he can to help clear their path with his geokinesis, but the sheer amount of rubble still makes it a slow trip.

His jaw clenches when they hear the scream. He nods and passes Anevia off to Horgus before following after Shauna.

[Kish]

Hesper's eyebrows rise nearly into her hairline during the argument over sexual morality between the two part-angels, but she stays out of it, nodding briskly at the conclusion of the argument over where to go. She walks next to Anevia on the way to the library.

At the scream, she heads off quickly with Shauna and Skerak.

[Frosty]

Luna has her shield out and ready, and rushes in right behind the others. "Horgus, can you take care of the others? Keep watch and shout if you need help."

"Y-yes" the nobleman says.
"We'll keep you safe, you mean." Anevia jabs verbally.

You head out, turning a corner. There are figures on the street. Familiar sights to both groups. One of the demon cultist, and a dretch demon. The cultist carries a wicked glaive, the blade slick with blood from his latest victim, a woman lying on the ground, dead or dying. A man, held by the dretch, struggles to break free. The enemies had broken a barricaded door and dragged the civilians to the street to toy with them. The cultist casts a spell, though he doesn't turn to face them directly. He swells with power.

This infusion can push a foe back by a maximum of 5 feet. You can increase the burn cost of this infusion to increase the maximum distance pushed by 5 feet per additional point of burn accepted. You can’t use this infusion with a form infusion such as cloud that causes your kinetic blast to lack a clear direction to push.

Shauna rushes to the woman, the cultist too dumbfounded to take advantage. The healing prayer, however, has no effect. The brute gets a cruel smile on his face, readying his glaive to strike. Instead of taking the blow, he is tossed back by the stone blast tossed by Skerak, burnt by Luna's holy flame and shot through by Diamond's pistol. Empowered or not, a mere human could not take such punishment. He falls where he ended up thrown by the stone blast, too dead to rise.

The demon's eyes glitter with malice. It drops the human in his grasp, lashing out as he scrambles away, before unleashing its fury against Shauna.

As Diamond reloads, the rest of the party moves to surround the demon. Hesper's shot hits home, but is simply swallowed by the demon's hide, leaving no injury or trace of the projectile. Same cannot be said of the stony projectile launched by Skerak, which overbalances the monster. It recovers and blocks the hateful Radiance, leaving it open to a flanking strike from Luna. Though the blow is glancing at best, the demon hisses in pain at the touch of cold iron, the substance an anathema to its existence.

The demon falls to the repeated attacks. It screams loudly, wordlessly. For the moment, streets are quiet. The man staggers towards the group, stuck in a storm of emotions. For now, relief wins out. "I owe you my life" he says.

Shauna and Skerak know what the cry means, however. It's a call of summoning. Something worse will show up sooner or later. And it's best not to be around when that happens.

Skerak looks up at the sky. "We need to move. That thing was calling for help, before long this place is going to be crawling with fiends and cultists."

[Kish]

"We were going to Defender's Heart, but stopping a couple places along the way. You should stay with us, until we get there," Hesper tells the man.

Shauna nods. "Let us hurry to the Gwerm Estate then."

”Onward, then! We ain’t got no time to dally about!”

Nodding at Hesper, the man follows the group. The party reunites with the others again, finding them in the shade of a mostly intact building. Following the plan laid out before, you head to Blackwing library, the nearest of the potential destinations, one advocated by Aravashinal. Some streets along the direct route are blocked, but you forge a path through regardless. The vast library, once you lay eyes on it, is in ruins. The facade standing mostly intact, with the outgoing wings flattened and destroyed. The structures around it are remarkably intact.

The repository of demon lore was singled out for destruction. The front door hangs ajar, and there appears to be a commotion beyond. It's possible that some portion of the library still survives. Aravashinal can't see the devastation, while the others are left silent at the sight of the devastation.
