Default Speak of the Devil: a new webcomic by Michael Lee Lunsford

Speak of the Devil, a new webcomic by Michael Lee Lunsford, launches today on Hiveworks. The first few pages just became visible to everyone, although they have been available for awhile to Patreon backers. The comic is a urban fantasy detective mystery story, and follows investiagator Sunday Blackburn as she gets caught up in the conspiracies of a corporate-run world.

Michael Lee Lunsford previously wrote Supernormal Step, which ran for 9 years before finally wrapping up this past May.

Well, looks like a interesting start.
Really interested how this world works.

I kinda expect trouble for that blind date.
Calling it off because of window guy being the best case scenario.

Also, is it bad that I think that fairy waitress is far more interesting than the main character?
    I mean, alone the wings.
Are they functional? Does she fly to work?
    Looking kinda cute helps too.
And now I'm expecting that to be some form mimicry to lure in prey or something like that...

Whelp, it looks like Sunday's latest attempt at romance has been interrupted by more important things

Taking a stab here, but it looks like those 'Robots' (Whisps?) are actually expressive exosuits for some sort of sunlight-sensitive (amorphous? made-of-the-darkness?) species of sapient.

EDIT: Didn't parse the imagery on the sign the first time round. I revise my guess to 'sunlight-sensitive, nocturnal humanoids'.

You know I like non standard humanoids in books too but it is really nice in a comic context where you can see them.

I'm intrigued to find out more about Sunday's family, although it seems she isn't anxious to tell us anything.

I mean, it could be Sunday just doesn't want to talk about them on a first (blind) date*, but considering she picked her own name?

Yeah. I'd expect her relationship with her family- or at least her mother -isn't the best.

Sure, the name calling might be the main reason, but it still implies some distance, although she did keep the last name.
Still seems weird it got to that point, so either there was little other help dealing with it and/or no approval of her choosen method.

That Sunday works as some kinda private investigator/hired muscle/street shadowrunner- all licenced of course -as opposed to her mother's job as a cop might be another indicator at a strained relationship.
    Spiting her maybe?

Or maybe we just don't have enough information, this is all wild speculation and I just like to hear myself talk.

*doubly so since her mother is pretty much (going to be?) the girl's boss, so some paranoia regarding her intentions might be involved.

I'm enjoying the world building in the last few pages, especially that we have a new type of creature that aren't just different-looking humans.

What are the odds that Curtis doesn't want Salvador to find him?

    Yeah. No bet.
    Not even with Monopoly money.

Somehow I don't think Mr. Short's story has much in common with the truth.
Whatever reason he really wants to find Curtis for, I doubt he has ghost boy's best interest at heart.

Sid calls Dex "sweetie." Are they a couple or is that just how they talk? I'm leaning towards that just being how Sid talks.

If that guitar player had blue hair, she would look an awful lot like Fiona from Supernormal Step.
