Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
Praise Thor! Straight up do not care what Minrah's secret it, it's her secret, she's entitled to keep it. Thor making sure to give attention to Minrah and give her support before getting into the heavy stuff with Durkon is totally awesome, gives us a wonderful moment of levity between the dismay of the fact that our two Thor worshiping Dwarves are currently dead, regardless of how soon they may be raised. It's great for Durkon as well, to know that the faith he has had in his god has not been misplaced.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
Huh. I could have sworn that Thor said "you be you", not "you do you", but apparently I need to stop reading the comic without my glasses.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
I'm liking the contrast between how we've seen Thor through his worshippers and folktales, and the personal Thor we see here. Can't wait to learn more about the squabbling gods.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
Makes sense to me. Even the female warriors who do have long hair (Sigdi, Rubyrock, and a few other background characters) keep it tied back, probably for those exact reasons.
Also, I can personally attest that just not wanting to deal with the maintenance of long hair is plenty of reason to keep it short.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
Well this was somewhat surprising.
Attention LotR fans
Spoiler: LotRThe scouring of the Shire never happened. That's right. After reading books I, II, and III, I stopped reading when the One Ring was thrown into Mount Doom. The story ends there. Nothing worthwhile happened afterwards. Middle-Earth was saved.

It's sort of emblematic of this forum that there's so much speculation about something a god easily acknowledged as a private matter.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
So cool.
Thor is officially one of the coolest characters ever to appear in OOTS.
And I'm *loving* the new release rate/schedule. Long may that happen! I'm guessing it's because Rich has got book 1/2 out of his hair finally (which, I'm told, just arrived at my house about an hour ago by courier, I can't wait to get home and read it).

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
I dunno, "you do you", taken literally, kinda sounds like masturbation. Which ironically would be saying it right in front of Durkon. But it'd fit his goofiness, I guess?
But then again, considering how the setting treats other sexual-related themes, it'd be kinda surprising to make a fuss out of this.Attention LotR fans

People are free to take it whichever way they want, I'm sure it says a lot about your personage, but my headcannon is that Minrah hits the pipeweed after a long Thursday's work and hopes she can still see her friend's in Valhalla.

"And yet, will we ever come to an end of discussion and talk if we think we must always reply to replies? For replies come from those who either cannot understand what is said to them, or are so stubborn and contentious that they refuse to give in even if they do understand." - St. Augustine

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
And also shows immediate casual familiarity with his followers. We've seen fairly aloof or screw around gods in OOTS thus far, with the exception of The Dark One, who's still been pretty unseen or stiff with his followers aside from the "don't screw this up", and Hel, who's more of an immediate petty mistress.
The gods thus far have seemed to see humans as sort of a cross between ants and prayer batteries thus far, with even the good gods being pretty inaccessible and talking about the lives and souls of their followers in more abstract moral terms than anything. So to have Thor meet two of his followers in person for the first time and immediately talk about knowing who Minrah is and reference something personal to her in a way that immediately put her at ease without revealing personal information to the bystander is a pretty cool thing to do, particularly for a god who many forumites had a... low opinion of before this.
My $0.02, anyway.Last edited by DaggerPen; 2018-08-16 at 07:52 PM.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
I agree. This is the most likely answer. It's almost certainly irrelevant to the plot and will never be revealed. Not everything is a Checkhov's Gun.
BTW, regarding Thor's line, "You don't have to pray, I'm right here." Anyone else think of Monty Python?.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
"you do you" means "be yourself" or "do what makes you happy" in colloquial American slang. It's a very common phrase. There really isn't any ambiguity there.

Re: OOTS #1135 - The Discussion Thread
Also, maybe this was obvious to everyone else, but is "shrink down and simplify" a joke about how small Thor doesn't have shading? If so, that's pretty funny.
