Came in to mention Pragmatic Activator. If you're playing 3e, I as a GM would be perfectly fine with porting it to 3.5, either as a trait - remember, 3e does have those, but you'd want to add a downside of some sort to make it fit in probably - or as a feat. Talk to your GM about it, it's a perfectly flavorful and valid thing to have.
