I'm more curious why Durkon's middle name is "Allotrope."

It's a good mineral-y name. An Allotrope is a chemical substance with the same composition but a different structure as another substance.

For example, diamond and graphite are allotropes of carbon.

I know what an allotrope is; I guess I just don't think of it as so mineral-specific as more of a general chemistry thing. EDIT: I am not specifically good at chemistry so if allotropes are something that come up more often in minerals than other forms of elements, that makes sense.

It's a joke based on the situation. Durkon's middle name is Allotrope, and Durkula is an allotrope of Durkon.

In that same strip, Roy tells Durkon "I'm going in!" right before he goes in. It's understandable that Durkon thought maybe getting half-eaten was part of the plan...

Well, if the anarchic water costs 95 gp, when you combine it with a 5 gp helm you've got your 100 gp font, right? (Just guessing, I have no idea how much a helmet costs in 3.5E)

Now I am curious how it would work in a game. Do you actually have to carry this particular item for the price, or you just pay the money and assume your character bought it earlier or something else completely?

Depends on the GM. I would say that you have to buy it ahead of time.

Short answer is nothing. Helmets aren't listed separately, so they're free unless magical. Arguably to some DMs, helmets don't exist because they aren't priced. And even if they do exist, they weren't known for being waterproof until you got cast helmets late in the 19th century.
