I always assumed that comic 301 is a reference to the opening scene of Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie, just like Yu-gi-oh Abridged movie, but apparently it predates it.

It's a reference to an old cinema advert.

But different from that ad, both ATHF and OotS scenes also show the clash of cultures between old and new snacks. Now I suspect that ATHF writers seen that strip before.

I just noticed that the title of 1033 ("Sound Reasoning") gets a callback three strips later in 1036's title ("Sound, But in This Case Inaccurate").

I might have noticed back when it came out (I notice "new" things all the time), but I usually have forgotten the title by the time I read the strip in question (and forget to look what it was after).

Oooh, nice catch. Also, I'm guessing that the "Sound" Reasoning part is because ythraks have a "sonic" attack?

In the intermission after NCftPB ends, Pizza is the one who kills Milk Dudes, with Soda shares his friend's last dying moment.
The one-panel shot of Snack World, where Soda kills Pizza in revenge, wasn't just a throwaway gag. It was a callback.

Soon's Gate was hidden inside a sapphire, disguised as a throne ornament, and the Sapphire Guard was a secret organization.

Girard's Gate was hidden inside a block of lead disguised as a pillar, and the Draketooth Clan hid its existence from the world.

Meanwhile Dorukan, Lirian* and Serini were pretty open about where their Gates were (hard to miss Monster Hollow when you pass by it) and how it is defended.

In comic 945, as Miron talks to Lauren about the ocean visible in the rift, he says "Wll, gosh, Lauren, sounds like some lucky plumber will be getting the job of a lifetime!"

I thought he was referring to a generic plumber... but on my readthrough I realized he was talking about Laurens daughter, who is a plumber!

I just realized that in Strip 935, as V describes the way he managed to force Laurin to flee, when he finally comments that he had "superior intelligence" he could have referred both to his own mental stat and him having very good knowledge of his opponent.

Also, I believe that Elan's true faith in his god means that Banjo technically is a god, if a very weak one. Probably lacks the Devotion and Souls to be a proper one yet, though, but still.

With the knowledge we have now about the pantheons and the Snarl and the need for a new god colour, we know that Thor entertaining the idea of Banjo as a potential new god in comic 137 would not have created a new colour since it would have been through sponsorship.

That almost made me begin researching reversibility of shirts in medieval Japan. But then I didn't. After all, Azure City isn't Japan. The Azurites could find reversible shirts as practical as anyone else.

By the way is this all in spoilers because its in bonus material, or to avoid invoking a Flame War, ala naming Voldemort out loud?

Which raises the question of how she dripped plum sauce on her back. That's a very messy eater.

More likely it's a stealth joke by Rich about how hard it it to tell front and back in a stick figure comic. See also Roy complaining about not being able to remember which foot gets the big boot.
