Oooo... so they spell otu I O U then. Appropriate. Who left this shovel here and can I borrow it to dig this rabbithole deeper?

Also, I must point out there are at least three vowels after U, namely Å, Ä and Ö. And that's just if you ask us Scandinavians.

Aren't those diacritics on thop of A and O, rather than different letters?

    Might as well consider À, Á, Â, Ã, È, É, Ê, Ë, Ì, Í, Î, Ï, Ò, Ó, Ô, Õ, Ù, Ú, Û, Ü and Ý additional vowels as well.

Also I thnik someone around here is waiting for Ywkywk, the welsh koblod.

These are not additional vowels either. Even if they are vowel sounds, as they take several letters to write (and may be two vowel sounds smashed against one another). Although OU is pronounced the same way a German would pronounce U and an English would pronounce the OO in ‘cool’.

Also EAU is pronounced O, like AU (okay not exactly like O, but close enough that even native speakers can rarely tell the difference, and it may depends on your accent) but AEU does not exist.

I Think there may be disagreement about hte proper graphemes at least. The Danish/Norwegian version has no risk of being mistaken for a diacritic for example...

I just noticed that Bandana Secundus is Second Banana on the Mechane. (At least, until Julio left.) And after noticing this, I went back and re-read SSaDT, and it looks like her father Fidel Secundus was Second Fiddle, while her mother Lakaita was a flotation specialist -- probably a pun on "Lakitu".

I can't believe my several-years-old, against-forum-rules comic alteration has spawned such a pervasive meme and identity that it's crossing threads to this day. It's like an immediately-censored piece of propaganda that nevertheless spawned a resistance that can never be be defeated. Survive!

    Tangentially connected to the comic...

Years ago after having my appendix removed, I spent a few days completely off my gourd on morphine and dropping in and out of consciousness. During one of my fever dreams, I came up with the Elemental Plane of Tasty, from which Cake Badgers came (Cake Badgers are of course like real badgers, except instead of being made of meat, they are of course made of cake). Another thread got me thinking about which came first; Semi-Elemental Plane of Ranch Dressing or the Elemental Plane of Tasty? Well I had my appendix out in 2009, S-EPoRD didn't appear in the comic till 2011. Therefore I wasn't subconsciously influenced by OotS!

No. Proper different letters. Have nothing with A and O respectively to do. In fact Å subs for the O sound in many other languages. So eg English "long" would be in Swedish "lång" and funnily enough are pronounced pretty much the same.

I think the fact that Danish and Norwegian layouts swap around the ae and ö disqualifies from any further discussion.
Why is that anyway? Any ideas. Just a "Well we can't do it the Danish way because we are Norwegians damit!"? Would make scandinavian keyboards less messy for one.

Well, it kinda makes sense, since many languages call w the "double u" or "double v".

    Hi,

Ok, this is not something I hadn't realized before, but it's something I'm asking here and maybe the answer will suit to the topic better than my question.

    I never understood:
Panel 8. Here, one of the directors says that they were kidding when they said that it would change V's alignment.
    But they never said that!

Here they say that "you will be in complete control of what gets done and when"

So, one thing I may never noticed is: where do they say that V's alignment might change? To her?

I believe it is a reference to #635, where Cedrik says to V: "You may be experiencing some feedback. You know, alignment-wise."

You know, I had always assumed that the crayon drawings were representing the fact that what we were seeing was how the one telling the tale (or listening to it) was picturing what was going on but since I can't see how any of them could know that particular information, I must conclude that crayons are actually objective, accurate, if incomplete depictions of the backstory.

I recall a quote from Rich about how trustworthy the Crayons of Time strips were. It seems like he said those panels were not completely trustworthy, but I can't seem to find the quote just now. It could be commentary from the books. Or I could have imagined it. I'm clever like that.

I'm guessing you're remembering the post about Start of Darkness; which I think is more about subjective-vs-objective than "trustworthy" in a general sense.
