Yeah, it's really obvious the difference in quality between where they were taking from the manga, and having to make stuff on their own because they outpaced the manga.

It was... okay I guess? It had some funny moments but the idea of humans getting pulled into pony world felt wasted and there wasn't any real antagonist that wasn't defeated in 10 seconds flat by waving a magic stick.

Hey, I don't see Spring Breakdown provoking a discussion of the history and merits of industrialism and capitalism.

Which, to be frank, is the only real measure of quality.

(Although actually, I'd quite like to see Ragamuffin, Mr. Shy, Applejack, and Coco Pommell performing the Four Yorkshiremen sketch.)

    It were amusing.

Though you wait until THIS point to bring up more portals to Equestria? The untapped potential gone to waste almost hurts.

Storm King reference, because it's nice not to have had the movie be completely isolated.

But yeah, it... Sort of felt like a lot of missed opportunities.

I took an immediate dislike to "Ragamuffin." Normally British Steriotype I fins really funny, but he was a British as D... dammit filter...Mr Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. It might even have been deliberate, but he grated on my nerves.

Also, VERY noticable that everyone apart from the main cast, Trixie and the desert-room lady were mute. That's a sign of a low budget and it was a little bit obvious. Tsk, tsk. (I mean, it's clearly not DHX's fault, but...)

This is especially annoying, since instead of doing all the shorts, which I find pretty bleh (they're too short to tell a good story, really), they could have done something far better with Equestria Girls. (I guess there is a chance it might after season nine ends...? Seems unlikely, though.)

Did not appreciate having to open Edge (*spits on floor*) to view it, since Dailymotion did NOT work right on Waterfox (I checked, it wasn't just that video or pony videos, it was displacing the colours on every video).

I'm the same with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies. My siblings loved them, especially the extended cuts of them. I swear to you they once watched The Fellowship of the Ring three times in one day. Admittedly, this was before The Two Towers came out, otherwise they'd have watched more than one film in the series rather than the same one multiple times in a row, but still. They watched the same 3 hour movie three times that day. I still have a burning hatred for Tolkien-esque elves because of it (Elves can come off as sanctimonious at times, but the double whammy of the immortal elf calling out Gollum for "unnatural long life" and Elrond letting Ilsadur walk away with the ring and then having the gall to say "Evil was allowed to endure" has completely bittered me on the race).

If it's a bad one (and not remotely funny) then yeah, it does.

So, having bought the Settlers games, I took one look at one, as i may have said a while ago, and because I haven't yet worked up the energy to beat my head against the wall of HoI4 for more hours, nor to continue my current attempt to Get On With Cities:Skylines by trying the secnarios, I though I would try II. Which I did previously play years ago. Yeah, I think I know why I never finished because oh ym Lichemaster so slow!!!! It took me over an hour and a quarter to do the tutorial level, which would have been fine if for 90% of that I wasn't staring at screen, waiting for the little blokes to very, very slowly cart stuff up. (Ubisoft, really, you could have added a fracking speed button when you did the remaster.) I was really quite bored, but I thought "maybe it's just a slow start, maybe it'll get more interesting later on."

    It did not.

So, hard pass on that one; III seems a bit more my speed these days (and even has something like a decent user interfacem which two did not). Also, PDX have spoiled me, clearl,y I want my tooltips telling me all the exact numbers, thanks.

Agree and agree. And I'll mention it again, worse than the missed opportunity of exploring humans in pony land is that there really wasn't any significant heavy to battle. At least in the other EqG they had to talk down or rainbow blast someone who was causing trouble. Here they just wave a magic stick and the storm is gone. Like, you could remove all references to Storm King and nothing significant in the plot would of changed.

Yeah, all the mute people bugged me a bit too.

Ever since we learned about the big finale villain team up I figured around half the villains would be redeemed and half would be finished off. I was betting that Chrysalis and Cozy Glow would reform with Sombra and Tirek biting it. But if episode 9 has all four of them almost learning friendship if not for Grogar's interference then there's a solid chance all of them become good in the end.

I had one more try at HoI4, going back and puppeting Russia in the hopes that it would hold. (I also, this time, did NOT expand my motorised divisions to 40 width and get supply problems.)

After a long and bitter battle, France has finally collapsed (along with it's immediate allies) -thanks toi Nationalist Spain hitting it from the rear ; Switzerland (absolute chock-full of allied troops) is surrounded, Portugal has joined the axis (ha, knew it was worth boosting up). Poland remains a stalemate, but force free from conquering France and Denamrk are approaching.

The Eastern front is holding, just barely, but that's as much as I can do with it right now; the forces in America are crumbling, but they were nerly a right-off from te start.

The allies hold Africa, because I made no even cursory attempt to hold it.

Modern armour is now on the way, but it'll be some time before it ramps up enough to start being phased in.

I might be able to so an Operation Sea Lion, however...

I finished Utaan. Rainbow Dash finally reached the end of the world.

It's been a bajillionty words and the most vast and ambitious journey I've ever read. There's only one book ahead of me before I'm caught up, and it's incomplete - so this is pretty much the end. Austraeoh is a singular piece of writing, in its drive and its ambition. It kept me going for almost a year and I feel like a changed person because of it.

    Uuuurgh.

I finally had to force myself to do the thing I really, REALLY did not want to have to do, and make a Facebook page for the Shipyards, as there is a vague sort of end in sight to at least the moderns catalogue.

It was every bit as painful, tedious and confusing as I expected it would be.

So looks like we've got a villain teamup for the final season. Anything that gives us more Chrysalis is fine by me. Generally, I think MLP has been weaker on the premiers than the finales but this one was pretty good. Discord steals the scenes he's in, as usual. Grogar's design could've been a bit more menacing. They could've at least given him the creepy goat eyes.

Hello BABSCon. And so another season opening hype is gone.

There was a lot to unpack in this episode, and I'm not really entirely sure where to start. Taking it from the top, its clear that as the last season the writers are pulling out all the stops, including being more self-aware then ever (having Twilight become a verb at this point and pointing out all times the princesses have been mostly useless was fairly amusing). Its also interesting to see we're finally getting a proper season long villain presence, though so far Grogar hasn't impressed me all that much. He seems marginally more competent then the previous villains and potentially more powerful given his ability to gather the others together, but the opening didn't give much else to go on and his personality seems a little generic. The bit that I'm hoping was setup for later in the season was the mention of Grogar's missing bell, so we'll see if anything becomes of that. On the plus side, I'm definitely looking forward to the antics of Tirek, Chrysalis and Cozy Glow.
That, however, brings us to the star villain of the opener, Sombra, and I have to say letting himself get defeated so he could locate and destroy the elements was a much more clever strategy than I expected to see. Overall, even though he lost I have to give Sombra points for dealing more damage to the main 6 in terms of destroying the elements and coming closer to defeating them than any other villain in the show up until this point. Also, I have to love a properly hammy evil overlord. I'm honestly a little sad Grogar didn't pull him back out of the ether to serve him now that he's supposedly learned his lesson.
If I had any complaints about this episode it would probably be that it felt like Twilight was a little too quick to give up whenever things seemed to go against her. I realize this was an extreme situation, but we've seen Twilight refuse to back down in the face of world-ending catastrophes previously, so the whole "woe is me I wasn't ready" bit started to wear thin fairly quickly. Even so, I would probably give this episode an A, definitely a good start to the season.
If brute force isn't working, that just means you're not using enough of it.

When in doubt, set something on fire. If not in doubt, set something on fire anyway.
