Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
Artichokes?
The question is: what are you ready to call pizza? Because the crap they sell e.g. at pizza hut is no pizza on my book. I think that pizza has retained some dignity in Italy, as well as expectations regarding its quality, that make it impossible to turn it into junk food sold solely by quantity.Originally Posted by J.R.R. Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
If you look at the nutritional content, it is basically just colored fat. It has less calories and more protein then butter, so it isn't really a nightmare food anymore then mayo or butter is. The real problem is that it has 50 calories per tablespoon, so you are going to be adding an astonishing amount of calories and fat if you eat more then a tiny bit of it.
And at least it is obvious it is bad for you, unlike salad dressing or vegetable oil which gets chucked in everything.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
..Could you cook with Chees Wiz? I mean if it's mostly just fat then...
Edit: thinking about it, the smoke point is probably super low - you'd need to cut it with some other type of fat, probably.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
I'll eat pizza with artichokes on it, but I'm equally happy to eat pizza without artichokes on it. I have a friend who likes them, so if we're sharing a pizza they tend to get ordered since they fall in the overlap of things we'll both eat. Places that have artichokes also tend to have feta and spinach, so if i"m on my own I'll just get a pineapple, feta, and spinach pizza at that point since 3 toppings feel like enough. Pineapple-only pizza is what I end up with at the cheaper places that don't have fancy toppings (except for Costco, which doesn't even have pineapple, so I end up with plain cheese there).

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
In my opinion, pineapple does not belong on a pizza, but if somebody wants to have it, go ahead.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
Best with something savory. Still prefer metallic black olives and mushrooms.

Pineapple can be delicious on pizza.
For me it's a sometimes food -- usually I prefer meat & onions & olives.I want you to PEACH me as hard as you can.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
Earler this week (Sep 5th), "Drabble" had a cartoon that summed up my feelings completely. Sadly I cannot copy the comic for you but I suggest people go & take a look at it.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
I agree with this 100%. Although a friend of mine once had a shrimp pizza somewhere, so I guess there is something nastier to put on pizza than mushrooms. I was not at all surprised when he got a bad case of food poisoning from that.
This is my definition as well.
Abominations.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
I think it tastes well. Particularly when the pineapple is grilled before being put on the pizza.
I don't see why it's become this strange amalgamation of roughly 60% meme and 40% serious topic though.
This is far from the strangest thing that people enjoy.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
It's great and I like it. When you're from a tropical region you kinna hafta get creative with what kind of toppings you put on foreign Mediterranean food. Pineapple and avocado on pizza has always been a staple fer me and it shocks me that people are shocked by it.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
It's a fairly well known tale. A Greek immigrant to Canada with a pizza restaurant was trying out new flavours for his pizzas, had cans of pineapple from Hawai'i and named the result after the source of the pineapple. It never pretended to be Hawaiian, merely to make use of the Tiki trend that was happening at the time. Had the cans of pineapple happened to have originated in, say, Costa Rica (#1 world producer by weight), we might have be talking about a Costa Rica pizza instead.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
Just read the title and no one elses posts but...
Worst idea probably ever. Pineapple contains Bromelain, so it's a race to the death on whether you will eat the pineapple dissolves you! Post may contain hyperbole and/or sarcasm. Truth be told, I like the way pineapple smells when it cooks but tastes nothing like the way it should smell. Rotten trick played on us all by mother nature.

Re: Thoughts on pineapple on pizza?
Well, I skimmed the article and it didn’t mention any harmful effects (unless you’re allergic), and when canned or cooked they are denatured, but if I missed something please point it out!
I personally love Hawaiian (ham/pineapple) pizzas, so my opinion may be a little biased as well.
