Rare burgers are better than rare steaks (with certain exceptions, of course). I will die on this hill.

Uncooked bacon is also delightful, though I usually only do that when cutting it into large bits for other dishes

Trichinella is even worse than salmonella (I think) and I wasn't looking for suggestions anyway.

Trichinosis or the tricky work as I call it, is indeed a very bad thing. Very much yes. Just bear in mind that this parasite existed when pigs wallowed in their own fecal matter. Today's farms are almost clean.

either problem can be cured though.

Why don't you use blue text, though? Sure, it's almost entirely restricted to these boards, but the chances of it being misunderstood are next to none. Especially since you don't have to read the entire sentence to see it.

Nono, they're talking about Ella the Salmon. Easy mistake to make, though.

Emphasis on "almost", though. Sweden has one of the most restrictive laws animal handling (with lots of focus on hygiene) in the world, and we're still strongly recommended to never eat undercooked pork. Sure, the risk of trichinosis might be low, but there's no way of telling beforehand whether the meat is infected or not.

    It's not.
Please don't use colours this way. Preferably, try not to be sarcastic. Sarcasm is not only difficult to convey correctly on the internet, it's insulting. If used against another poster, it can constitute flaming. There are much better ways to express yourself.

While I can kinda get behind the "Don't use sarcasm" sentiment, there is no actual board rule against sarcasm itself, so people are free to use it (for as long as they don't break any other board rules) and will use it if they feel that's the best way to express their persona. And for as long they will, it's better they use some weird typography that is at least consistent and mostly well-understood to mean sarcasm, and will look distinct enough for the people who haven't learned that yet to realise something is off about this sentence.

Are you also against tones in spoken english? Because I believe quite the opposite of what you are saying, that colored text representing tones is far closer to spoken English and is an efficient way to increase information conveyance.

I think that's a pretty fair analogy. I never use the colored text thing myself, but I do try to throw one of the little smiley emoji things behind it to let every one know that I'm joking.

I'm on board with emojis, they do much the same thing.

I find it interesting to think that the amount of writing we consume has increased dramatically with each generation since the Crusades, so it of course has to evolve ways to express information in more concise ways.

I only use colored text in RPG games in this forum. That's the only time that I use in this forum. I always use emojis in this about by 99% of the time.

Just got home from the vet.

So about a week ago, my dog started having massive bouts of diarreha. Friday he stopped being able to walk, and Sunday I took him in to the vet. They did some tests, found it was likely he had cancer both in his small intestine and in his spleen.

Even before we knew that, though, you could tell he was in so much pain. He wouldn't stop trembling and looked half-dead. Poor boy couldn't stand up and could barely lift his head.

    So... we put him down.

... he was old. Unlike last year (where one of our dogs died of lymphoma) we knew this one was coming. He lived a long, happy life and was the sweetest dog we ever had.

Of the three we've owned, this one was primarily mine. It hurts a lot to know that he's gone. But I think I'll be okay.
