Default RIP Burt Reynolds - In the end all we have are his stories

This is truly a dark day for mankind, Burt Reynolds has passed on at the age of 82.

    ALL HAIL THE GREAT RAK!!

I use the same name in every game I ever play or forum I join (except the pretender on PSN that forced me to be RealOlinser). If you see an Olinser in a game or on a website, there's a high chance it's me, feel free to shoot me a message.

At 82 years, I think he had a good run. He'll be running interference for truckers in heaven, now.

As varied as his roles were over the years, I'll always associate him with Smokey and The Bandit. Not a thematically deep movie, but definitely a fun, ridiculous movie. Plus the Trans Am was still cool.

Though I'm pretty sure there has to be someone that associates him more strongly with All Dogs Go To Heaven, which I'll admit... was actually a better movie. Hey, maybe he'll be hanging out with Dom Deluise in the afterlife.

I love Burt Reynolds merely for Let Me Be Surprised.

[Setup happens prior to the Song]

    ...

[Burt Reynolds] Everything is so lovely here. So planned, so ordered... and that's what driving me crazy

    (sung) I need Brazil /
    The throb, the thrill /
I've never been there, but someday I will! /
Adventure and danger, love from a stranger /
    Let me be surprised! /

La de da de da bom ba bom /
    Ha ha! /

    Today there's sun /
They said there'd be snow /
When all's said and done /
    It's fun not to know!

What keeps my heart humming /
    Is guessing what's coming /
    Let me be surprised! /

[Burt Reynolds] Oh! Ain't it great [ANNABELLE] Ain't it great? /
[Burt Reynolds] When fate makes you wait? [ANNABELLE] La la la la la la la la! /

    The world seems mirthless /
    You feel worthless /
    Then suddenly /
There's a big bone on your plate!

    ...

    [Song Continues]
    -----

But my love for Burt Reynolds is not just All Dogs Go to Heaven but for dozens of other reasons. I mean I also love him merely for this GIF

Words can not describe my FEELS for Burt Reynolds.

I'll remember him best from Boogie Nights, particularly the scene where he's driving around in the car looking for anonymous dopes to play doctor* with Rollergirl. It's beneath even a sleazy porn director, but then it goes south when the frat boy they picked recognizes her.

I have very vague memories of Burt Renolyds in his movies but perhaps the thing I actually remember him in is..well..Saints Row the 3rd, where he played the single person the Boss (your PC) respects and might actually fear as well.

    That leaves an impression.

    *Raises hand*

I was born in 1981 so most of his iconic roles were before my time. I've seen some since of course so intellectually I can appreciate them and I've always enjoyed him in the roles I saw him in his later career but I think All Dogs Go To Heaven is the one that hits me in the emotions because I saw it as a child in the cinemas.

Burt Reynolds dies the day I get my CDL. Now I feel cursed.

The Longest Yard, Deliverance, and of course Smokey and the Bandit. He was arguably the last major "male movie star" out there.

    RIP Burt, you earned it.

He did not, although he has had some health issues for a couple years now.

Heh. That's funny because you're actually a little older than me. I'll admit that seeing All Dogs Go To Heaven when I was little was a formative experience for me. (The Hell sequence probably did a lot to cement my fascination with Nightmare Fuel.) Seriously, this movie holds up.

The reason why I associate Burt Reynolds more with Smokey and The Bandit though is probably because I had no idea who he was when I saw All Dogs Go To Heaven. After The fact, I learned about him and revisited some classic Don Bluth movies and was like "Hey, wow! The Bandit was Charlie? No way!"

Man... That's rough. Hopefully that's not the case. Fingers crossed and all.
