    Default Mortis Thule (IC)

(The actual Space Hulk is much larger)

    Watch Fortress Erioch

Once again you have a mission. All of you were interrupted in whatever you were doing by a Deathwatch serf who politely asks you to come to a briefing room deep in the bowels of the Watch Fortress. The briefing room is spartan but is easily large enough to fit all of you inside. In front of a large holo-projector, the room is occupied only by a single Astartes in full armour and a black robed Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Astartes, who is immediately known to all of you as a Space Wolf, identifies himself as a Watch Captain Yngvar. None of you recognise him and he is not the Watch Captain who you have received most of your orders from up until now, but from what you have heard that is not entirely unusual. Yngvar himself claims that you have all been temporarily loaned to him by his request.

The holo-projector shows you orbital images of a hiveworld that some of you may recognise. You are told that you are to undertake a mission to the hiveworld of Castobel at the spinward end of the Orpheus Salient. Castobel retained a level of loyalty to the Imperium throughout the long centuries of the Age of Shadow and enthusiastically rejoined the Imperium once the Crusade finally reached it. Unfortunately it also had the bad luck to be right in the path of Hivefleet Dagon when it entered the Jericho Reach. With help from the Crusade and with significant Astartes aid, Castobel yet stands, but it is still in the early stages of consumption by the Tyranids. According to Yngvar, neither the Crusade nor the Deathwatch believes that Castobel can ultimately be defended, and plans are being made to remove all viable Imperial assets from the world when the time comes.

Yngvar points to the Magos in the room. 'That's where my friend here comes in. Magos Gelwin represents a group within the Mechanicum that managed to find something useful that's been on Castobel since the days of the Heresy. Apparently there's a storage facility of war automata and other fun toys that was buried in a stasis crypt long ago. All-Father knows why they never went back for it, but that's not the point. The Crusade could certainly use the extra firepower. Even if the Tyranids don't somehow manage to get in and break everything, we don't want to just leave it lying there once the Hiveships move on. As I shouldn't need to tell you, it's not the sort of thing we want falling into Archenemy hands.'

Yngvar looks somber. 'Now the Magos sent some of his people over to Castobel to unlock the stasis crypt and evacuate all that tech. Had a companies worth of Skitarri there to look after the Tech-priests doing the work. Yet a few day's ago all contact was lost with the facility, Tyranid swarms were seen advancing on their position and Gelwin finally had the good sense to do what he should have done in the first place and petition us for aid.' At the end Yngvar sounds openly irritated with the Magos. The Magos himself has been watching you all throughout the briefing and has said nothing.

'So Mordigael has had the good sense to call me in to go have a look and you lads will be coming with me. You've not been around that long, but you all come recommended by people I trust and that's enough for me. Now clearly we're assuming that something attacked the storage facility and chewed through all the Skitarri on the way. At best, the Mechanicum got unlucky and some part of the Hive found them. At worst, it's something else who knew what the Mechanicum were up to there. In which case it's a whole different kind of problem.'

'Best ask your questions now if you have them.'

    Undertaking to Castobel

Primary Objective: Find out who is attacking the Adeptus Mechanicus storage facility and prevent them from securing the tech. (Veteran Objective, 30 Requisition)

Primary Objective: Protect Watch Captain Yngvar from lasting harm. (Skilled Objective, 25 Requisition).

Secondary Objective: Eliminate all attacking forces (Veteran Objective, 25 Requisition)

Secondary Objective: Eliminate any commanders or synapse creatures that are onsite. (Skilled Objective, 20 Requisition)

Secondary Objective: Aid Adeptus Mechanicus forces in the evacuation of the storage facility. (Skilled Objective, 20 Requisition)

    After the Briefing

Yngvar leaves you with orders to visit the armoury to make your selections and don your armour before meeting him at the docks. A frigate called the Argent Crusader is to take make warp with Yngvar and your whole squad before the day is over. Once you have chosen a squad leader Yngvar himself will oversee your oaths on the frigate's chapel.

At the armoury a handful of other marines are being armed and armoured by servitors and a handful of serfs that work under the supervision of a senior Techmarine of the Iron Hands.

Because I'm haven't been hiding where this is going, I'm going to abstract the briefing a little. If you want to ask questions of Yngvar or the Magos or roll anything, do it with Before and After subheadings or something similar. The second major post will be boarding the frigate that is to take you on your mission and include the oath taking.

    Before
Tyran was the first in the room. He had been called from the practice arena where he usually was, venting the Rage and honing his skills. He nods to brother Xavier and Dhiiga as they enter. Good warriors and worthy of his respect.
Tyran stands with his arms folded for most of the Commanders briefing. Once he's done he pipes up a question. His Voice is gravely and sounds like someone drank acid and then yodeled for a day without stopping. What kind of Tyrannids can we expect to see? Any major differences in these ones than the rest? Will a list of these fun toys be provided to us?
    After
He grabs his trusty force sword. It had been specially made to encorporate Chainblades in it like the chainswords his chapter was used to. It had been engraved by a Brother who was on the verge of falling to the Black Rage, beseeching the Primarch and the Emperor to grant them strength of arm. It effortlessly slid into his power armor. His armor was covered in the blood of the foe, forming contraceptive patterns. It was a newer suit of errant armor and it was eager to prove itself. He also picked up a power sword and a storm bolter for maximum Efficency. He was about to leave when something caught his eye. There was a jump pack enlayed with gold and feathers carved into it. He took it from its hanging and had a Servitor help him out it on.

Octavius rises, still with the Codex at hand, as the serf enters the room and asks for him to follow him. Gently he marks the page, stores it and follows the younger man.
As he enters the room and the situation is explained, his mind starts racing through the what he knew about the zone and tactical approaches and possibilities. His years of experience on the other hand calmed his imagination and creativity. Imagination was a sure way to fall into dread and falacies.
"We'll be provided with the Augur information about the area, as well as the intel and movements on the battlefield, i assume. So we can formulate a good tactical approach, and enhance our capabilities."

Time had showed him that caution in imagination was the first step. With all the details then it could be used.

    AFTER
Octavius approaches the Techmarine and nods in a sign of respect, saying "We'll be battling the Tyranid next. From your vast experience and knowledge of the machine spirits of all these weapons under your guard, whose do you recomend for us, so we can better serve the undying will of the Emperor.

Cadmus considers the situation for a few moments before asking his questions. He frequently looked in the Magos' direction during the briefing, feeling like there was more to this, although he respectfully kept that to himself.

"Asides from the Magos' expedition, are there any Imperial forces in the region, and can they be trusted? A cache like you describe is enough to tempt many lesser men. Furthermore, what about the possibility of interference by a third party - any signs of enemies past the Tyranids, traitor or xenos?"

    After
When Cadmus arms himself, the first weapon he takes is a familiar one - a storm bolter, modified to his specifications, that had been a reliable companion in past conflicts and was now a constant presence in his missions. Looking at it, he nods, pleased with the care that had been taken of it. It would do well when the time came to deliver the fury of the Emperor. His armour is given similar attention, before he puts his robes on, their hidden meaning reminding him of his duties.

Once he's equipped with the rest of his weapons, grenades and explosives, he stands ready, paying attention to those in his new team who he hadn't fought with before as he waits. They were new to him, and he inherently distrusted new people, although the reputation and nature of the others reduced those feelings down to a lingering wariness.

Having been taking some time in one of the Watch Station's many firing ranges, Kvothe paused in his shooting to look at the serf who'd addressed him. Wordlessly, he fired off a few more shots to finish the clip before holstering the weapon and following the serf to the briefing room.

The Raven Guard marine's eyes flicker across the faces of those already present, recognizing a couple of them from previous missions, as well as one brother of his own Chapter. "Is there any information about what kind of tech makes up the cache? Or any defenses that may have been left behind by our distant predecessors? Any knowledge about what we should expect may be of help to us."

    After
Once the briefing was over Kvothe followed his battle-brothers out of the room, his steps deceptively quiet despite the heavy power armor he was wearing. "Given the presence of Tyranid bio-forms, Hellfire rounds would likely be recommended," he said, voice quiet but carrying weight behind it.

Once at the armory Kvothe quickly picked out the equipment that he felt would best suit his needs. A lascannon is by far the largest item he requests, though a number of smaller items also change hands, such as a signum link, a camo-cloak, and a laser sight for his standard bolter. In line with his previous suggestion, the Raven Guard also requests a clip of Hellfire rounds for his heavy bolter.

Alisan is performing the standard maintenance rites on his bolter in his chamber when approached by the serf, without speaking he gives a nod of understanding then finishes his task. He steps quietly, even in the presence of a servant; he had been promoted to the 7th Company only within the decade - his home Chapter had taken substantial losses in the past and tended to fast track Marines that showed talent. While some Astartes would glow with pride at being considered not only a full Battle Brother, but one for the illustrious Deathwatch, with less than a century of experience behind them - Alisan knew with grim certainty that he would be viewed under a microscope in his combat duties. He needed to prove he wasn't as green as an Ork.

His sense of grim fortune only enhanced when he made it to the briefing area; surrounded by Astartes of the honored First Founding he felt dwarfed by the history surrounding him. This only intensified when he noticed two of them were his gene-cousins of the Raven Guard, while he was glad to have respectable Astartes who knew the value of stealth and intelligence, that just meant there would be two Brothers would would expect even more from him.

He had been on a few wetwork missions so far, so the prospect of this mission would be his best chance of showing everyone that he more than belonged here.

He keeps quiet during the briefing, it seemed that any information not given to him was probably information that the squad didn't have.

    After

At the armory Alisan kept to the gear that he knew best and would compliment his fighting style the best. He did have a moment of surprise realizing how important the Deathwatch's missions were when looking at some of the gear requisition by his squad, they would be prepared for anything. Since they were Astartes, they would have to be.

    Before

Brother Dhiiga was where he almost always was: in the chapel on the station. It was a sermon he was well aware of, the chaplain preaching about purity of body and mind, and Dhiiga was more focused on the way the chaplain delivered the message. He knew eventually he'd be working with Brother Pfarrer after he had done enough missions and hopefully recovered or received a Blood Chalice. The end of the sermon saw Dhiiga come back to reality as a serf tapped on his shoulder. There was another mission that called for the deacon’s assistance.

When he entered the mission briefing room he gravitated towards the marine that had trappings closest to his own. Then he maintained a stoic appearance as he listened to the briefing, waiting until the very end before he bothered speaking. His voice was overly relaxed despite his posture as he said ”How do ya feel about collateral damage, Capt’n? Missiles seem…right for da swarm.” It's not like the answer was going to change his load out.

    After

He stopped by the Manufactorium first and foremost to gather up SAN since the requisition limit was high enough to allow the battle servitor to tag along. He recited the Credo Omnissiah, knowing from previous dealings the tech priest preferred that over anything from the Ecclesiarchy, and moved on. While still mostly machine, Dhiiga had specifically requested that SAN still had blood pumping through his veins to help him in treating battlefield injuries. That was his story and he stuck to it every time.

The only detour he took was a brief stop to his own quarters to center himself. A confirmation that SAN tasted the same as always, followed by a bandaid over the needle point. Then it was time to take care of the rest of the gear, arriving just as the rest of the team finished up their requisitions. He took care of equipping SAN with his missile launcher, chain sword, and enough missiles to bring down a frigate. He then fitted his power sword, engraved with credos from his former Primarch, and his own launcher and enough missiles to help blow his way into the vault from the governor’s office.
Back on my normal work schedule. Updates will happen when I can finangle them at work or on my nights off on Monday and Friday (unless I get caught up doing something else).

    Your understanding is appreciated.

Brother Attano slipped in last, behind the other Battle-Brothers. He took up position near the door, with his back to the wall. Others might call it overly suspicious, but to him it was prudent, and gave him a way to observe the Brothers he would be working with. He picked out Kvothe right away, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. The Ultramarine had the best question, he felt - tactical information was valuable. If they didn't get surveys beforehand, he would be requesting them from the captain of the Argent Crusader.

    After

The main concession Brother Attano made to the possibility of Tyranids was a flamer; the assault weapon would be useful for clearing hordes of smaller bioforms, even if it was a singularly unstealthy weapon. The remainder of his loadout was multipurpose, to prepare as best he could for any possible enemies. A Stalker boltgun, a camo cloak, and a power axe to complement his own chainsword were his picks. He knew his strengths, and he knew that removing any synapse creatures would be the main objective. The boltgun would be helpful for that, and his jump-pack would allow him to reach high ground easily. From there, it was a matter of remaining undetected.

"Brother Kvothe. Have you worked with any of these others before?" Attano asked, as he inspected the firing mechanism on his newly issued boltgun. He would do a full teardown and rebuild in transit. The Deathwatch quartermasters were skilled, but it was better to know your weaponry yourself.

    Before

Xavier was working the forge when the serf came looking for him. Like a true Salamander, he'd taken to teaching the younger tech-adepts the ways of the machine and good, honest work. Though the Salamander towered over even most other Techmarines, his easy demeanor had helped the staff relax around him. Ah yes. Xaphos, isn't it? Good lad. Lead the way. Xavier shrugged on a salamander-pelt cloak for the meeting to cover his work clothes.

He greeted the battle-brothers warmly, both those he'd fought with before and those he hadn't had the pleasure of working with yet. He listens to the briefing, then raises a massive hand. Archmagos. Do we have any details of the holy technology we're searching for? Proper invocation of its rites might be the difference between success and failure.

    After

Xavier walks around the armory, greeting serfs and quartermasters by name and complimenting his brothers on any particularly fine wargear. He speaks to his armor as a trusted comrade, gently patting the suit before stepping into its massive frame. It was large even by the standards of astartes armor, the brilliant green pauldron of his home chapter contrasting sharply with the techmarine red. It seems we're going to have more excitement, old friend. Not that you'd have it any other way. He laughs before putting on his crimson helmet.

Xavier arms himself with unsubtle, potent weapons. A massive breaching augur, integrated into the armor of his right arm. Flame and melta weapons, to destroy whatever came against him. He also takes a combi-tool to effect his sacred work and a signum to aid his brothers.

Kvothe's eyes flickered to Attano at the other Raven Guard's question. He considered it for a moment, his enhanced memory bringing to mind the handful of missions he'd been on since being seconded to Deathwatch. "One or two of them," he replied after a moment, "I worked with Cadmus most recently, though we were on different teams for that mission. He performed well against the Tyranid threat."

    The Briefing

Yngvar will answer all questions as they are asked.

To Tyrax, 'Castobel has been at war for a few years at this point. The Navy does what it can but they're too overstretched to completely keep the Hive from dropping more organisms on the surface. From personal experience, the Tyranids on Castobel range in size from the little annoying ones right up to anything below Titan-class, and they've managed to develop a few of those as well. I was there when the Legio Praetor took one of them down.' His grin at this memory is savage. 'As for variations, nothing substantial, but you can never trust them not to do the unexpected and evolve in some way you haven't considered. Best be prepared.'

There, the Magos will finally speak up after an angry blurt of binary about 'fleshlings' that only Xavier really understands. ++They are not toys. They are valued war automata and other artifacts belonging to the Ordo Reductor and once owned by the blessed Magos Calleb Decima. They will be treated with respect.++ Yngvar largely ignores this outburst, 'Be that as it may, the manifest we've seen suggests a few thousand Thallanx cyborgs of various classes and a lot of things the Mechanicum find it difficult to make these days. You ever seen what a Vortex grenade is capable of? You ever heard of Volkite weapons? I'm told the Guard who have seen them in use call them 'Death Rays.' They used to be a lot more common back in the Crusade.'

To Octavius, 'All the intelligence we have about current enemy activity is included in the dataslate. We will all find time to review it on the way to Castobel, but there are more then enough friendlies around to give us up to date information when we arrive. They might also be available to back us up if we really need it.'

To Cadmus, 'Castobel still isn't as nasty a warzone as say some of the worlds in the Archeros Salient, but it's well defended all the same. Aside from substantial Navy and Guard presence, there is a small battle group from the Legio Praetor and multiple Astartes detachments from a number of Chapters. Some of their commanders are good people who owe me a favour.' He will gesture towards Dhiiga, 'Never dealt with them, but there are supposed to be two whole companies of Blood Drinkers defending one of the Hives. Doing a good job by all accounts.'

'As for trust, I would trust some of the Astartes on Castobel, even the stiff-necked ones, with my life. In the case of everyone else, I'd say most of them are too busy with the Tyranids to go archaeotech hunting, but I could never be certain of that. I would also say that if anyone could break the place open it'd be those bastards on Samech.'

The Magos will speak up to answer Kvothe's question. ++Regrettably we only retain partial information from the days of the Heresy. We have a manifest belonging to the member of our Ordo who chose to preserve Magos Decima's belongings after his murder by the Arch-Traitors. The document is believed to be genuine but after so long we cannot be certain. If procedure holds true the vault must be unlocked with the correct codes of the Ordo Reductor. If the facility believes it is being attacked it will likely wake some of the automata in a bid to drive off intruders.++

To Dhiiga, 'Collateral damage is fine as long as you're trying to keep yourself alive. As far as I'm concerned the All-Father made an investment in all of you and you're all needed for this mission and beyond. That said, unless you're actively trying to break things with a melta or something most of the tech in the facility ought to be fairly resilient.'

The Magos seems somewhat mollified by Xavier's respectful attitude. ++As an Adept of Mars in good standing you will receive all available information on the facility and receive what we have been able to recover of ancient Ordo codes. If my colleagues on Castobel still live I recommend asking for their assistance. If that is insufficient and you are unsuccessful we have judged it a risk worth taking given the alternative.++

    After

Iron Hands are not generally known for being polite, but the Forge Master has had some personal experience of battle with the Tyranids, and so takes Octavius' request seriously. ++Hellfire is an excellent start. Techmarines of your own chapter were instrumental in developing it in the years after Behemoth, and it is knowledge gained through much sacrifice. Otherwise heavy weapons of all kinds have a place in battling the Hive, but no weapon is as effective as the hand of the Brother that wields it and the brain that directs it. I recommend familiarising yourself with what typical weak points the larger creatures have. Target the head, the weaker points of their armour and if necessary their limbs. A Genestealer without a leg is still dangerous, but you have slowed it down.++

++Furthermore, always remember that despite their appearance, the Tyranids are only an appendage of the wider Hive. There is an intelligence directing them. The swarm that attacks you openly is liable to be only the most visible of your enemies. Fight well Ultramarine.++

"Cadmus." Attano let the name hang in the air for a moment. "He would be the Dark Angel, yes? I can see him being a good ally. Dark Angels appreciate the value of secrecy. The others are no doubt valiant as well."

There was much left unspoken, here, and Attano hoped that Kvothe would pick up on some of it. In particular he was concerned about their Librarian, and their Apothecary. There were many troubling stroies that surrounded the sons of Sanguinius.

After putting his armor, he decides to follow the techmarine instructions and pick some hellfire ammo for his weapon of choice - the stormbolter.
Almost as an afterthought he decides to pick an heavy flamer. Walls of fire were important to fend off Tyranids, as the devastators picked up the heavy threats and the close combat warriors picked up the strays. A moving adaptable wall of death.

At Attano's unspoken words however he turned to face his battle-brother, dark eyes regarding him carefully. The briefest flicker of something that might, generously, be called a smile appeared on Kvothe's lips before disappearing as though it had never been there. "And if not," he continued, "Then it will be up to us of the Raven's sons to show them how to do things properly." Reaching up and giving Attano a rough pat on the shoulder, he nodded to him. "Now, I believe that we should introduce ourselves to our new team should we not?"

    ----

"It is good to meet you all," Kvothe said once they had all gathered together once more, "I am Kvothe, formerly of the Raven Guard's Ninth Company."

"Agreed, Brother." Attano returned Kvothe's gesture. "If nothing else, there are enough of us to support adequate stealth operations. I suspect our Brother of the Raptors will be happy to come along."

"And I am Attano, of the Eighth," he said, inclining his head to the others. He was already wearing his helmet, red eye lenses glowing above the birdlike faceplate. "I am interested to see how you fight."

Xavier pauses, helmet in hand. Ah, but where are my manners? My sincerest apologies! He hands the helmet up to his servo-arm and strides around the room, shaking hands with each of his new brothers and clapping on the back those that seem hesitant to take his hand. A broad grin splits his void-black face, and his red eyes seem to twinkle.

Brother Xavier, Second Company, Salamanders! Hohoho, though I doubt you had any difficulty telling my chapter. The skin and eyes are a bit of a giveaway, hoho, are they not? I'm a Techmarine, though that's not a hard guess either, hohoho! The servo-arm tips his helmet respectfully towards them. If anything needs fixing or tending to, just let me know! Happy to be serving amongst such distinguished company!

With a slight motion once he made the last bits of requisitions to the servitor, Dhiiga said in his relaxed tone "San. He'll be coming along to help. I..." He motioned to his golden icon and added "am Brudda Dhiiga. I'll be making sure ya won't be corrupted by da witch. Ya heard I'm a Blood Drinka but we'll be fine." When talk shifted to tactics he motioned towards his fellow Blood Angel and added "We won't be stealthy. Brudda Tyran and we can be distractions, do'. Especially with dese." He hefted the missile launcher and, despite the helmet, it was clear he was grinning.

After properly arming yourselves you all file out to the void docks to meet Captain Yngvar. Today the docks are fairly busy with a number of vessels apparently preparing themselves to ferry other Kill Teams to their missions. Largest amongst them is the Strike Cruiser Herald of Night which you have heard is to take three whole squads to participate in a new offensive against the Archenemy on Khazant. Other vessels have more mysterious purposes for being here. The Argent Crusader is a gladius class frigate, which is a design of ship familiar to all of you as it has been widely used by Astartes chapters across the Imperium. Unlike most Astartes vessels, the ship displays no sign of it’s affiliation with the Deathwatch.

Yngvar greets you outside the ship. In addition to the numerous other weapons he was carrying during the briefing, he now carries the pelt of a unusually large wolf over his shoulders, and at his hip he carries an ornate thunder hammer. He explains, ‘Mordigael asked me to bring this along. Supposedly brings the wielder some luck in addition to being a bloody big hammer. If you’re good I’ll let you smash something with it.’ Inside the Crusader is unmistakably a Deathwatch ship. Crew go about their business with obvious purpose and are deferential but not overawed at the sight of you. Everywhere you look the corridors are covered in the names and deeds of Brothers who have served at Erioch in the past. Yngvar explains, ‘The Crusader has been serving the Deathwatch for a few thousand years. At this point it’s probably fought more enemies than many Astartes. Treat everyone here as though they were your own chapter's serfs or you’ll answer to me. Captain DeSaul is overseeing the loading of the last of the supplies we’re bringing with us. Should get us away faster.’

As you move through the ship Yngvar will quickly inform you of it's layout. 'Sleeping quarters are on deck two. There should be more then enough cells for all of us. Training rooms and the armoury are on the same level between there and the engineering decks.' Eventually, he will lead you all towards a small Chapel located close to the Crusader's bridge. Thick steel blast doors marked with the Aquila and a ring of wards stand at the entrance. The room is dominated by a small statue of the Emperor displayed in full battleplate as he reputedly appeared at the triumph at Ullanor. Alcoves are situated around the room with smaller statues of the nine loyal sons. The walls and ceiling are almost completely covered in chapter iconography of every kind. Many of them you recognise and all of you will eventually find the symbols of your chapter if you wish to look for them.

Yngvar will carefully place the thunder hammer in a metal case that sits in front of the alter, before standing in front of the statue of the Emperor and addressing all of you. 'So, I assume you have chosen a squad leader? Any choice that you can all agree on is good enough for me. The same is true of the Oath. You all must understand the gravity of the words that you say in the sight of the All-Father or you would never have been sent to the Deathwatch in the first place. The specifics don't matter, only the sentiment, and we are worth little without that. I'm no Chaplain, but I've been around long enough to fill in. So say your piece in front of the Emperor and your Primarch.'

This is the Oath-Taking. Feel free to add as much or as little as you want.

Tyran is the first to take his oath. He kneels down facing the Emperor and Sanguinius (which luckily were side by side) and takes out a little blood droplet aquilla thing that looks a little smushed from use. It radiates a faint golden light for those who have the second sight.
I swear to uphold the name of our chapter, the deathwatch and the Imperium as a whole. I vow that the Enemies of He-Who-Rules-On-Terra will be smited by my hand or that of my brothers. All this i promise in the all holy name of Sanguinius and The Emperor. May His eyes be upon us and His Hand guide ours.
He then gets up and makes room for the others after pocketing his Aquilla. He searches for his chapters mark on the walls and gives an internal smile when he does. He then eyes the hammer. It looked beautiful for a weapon of war like most relics did. He would have to prove himself worthy of it. He knew of the Space Wolves dislike of Psykers rather than their own rune priests but that just give him resolve to work harder.

Brother Dhiiga stuck towards the back of the group as they were le to teh ship that would take them to their mission. It was good to see Tyran again as thoughts of battle flitted through his mind, knowing that his fellow brother would protect the group in the days to come. Silently he listened to the layout of the ship and couldn’t help but slump a bit when word came of how small the chapel was. Outside the doors he slowly whispered to himself, his accent melting away as he was careful to pronounce every word correctly lest he offends the Emperor, in High Gothic. ”I offer my life to the Emperor, I pray that He accepts it.
I offer my strength to the Emperor, I pray that he redresses it.
I offer my blood to the Emperor, I pray that it quenches His thirst.
I offer my body on the altar of the battlefield, I pray He grants me a noble death.
I pray for His protection, as I offer all that I am.”

He then entered and looked around, his breath catching at the glory of it all. While it could always be bigger he did appreciate the small details they put into everything. He waited until his fellow chapter-mate was done giving his oath before he moved again. He gently tapped SAN and motioned for the servitor to stay waiting near the back before he approached the statue of the Emperor and kneeled. Once more in practiced High Gothic he looked at the boots of the statue and slowly recited ”The Emperor is our guiding light, a beacon of hope for humanity in a galaxy of darkness.
As we serve Him, He is our greatest servant.
As we pray to Him, His thoughts are only for us.
And in the dark when the shadow's threaten, the Emperor is with us, in spirit and in fact.”

"I've heard about you all and your exploits. We'll be a force to be reckoned, no tyranid will stand in our path." says Octavius to the rest of the warriors standing next to him.

    ---------------------------
Time Skip - aboard the ship
    ---------------------------

Octavius looks around the chapel walls as the others start taking their oath and praying. Silently he picks the Codex Astartes he always carries and goes to his favorite passage, a passage that held him in some difficult times, recited as a mantra. He didn't need to read it, but he preferred, text, prayer, Oath.
He waits till all of the others pray and them kneels and recites the known text, hoping that the others pick it up, if they wanted to:

"Without the Dark, there can be no Light, We have purpose
Without the Lie, there can be no Truth, We have purpose
Without the War, there can be no Victory, We have purpose
Without the Death, there can be no sacrifice, We have purpose
Without the Hope, there can be no Future, We have purpose
Without the Loyalty there can be no one Chapter, We have purpose
Without the Emperor there is nothing... And we would have no purpose."

Then he closes the book and adds "Lead us in battle, let us fulfill your divine will."

Attano eyed the Thunder Hammer, allowing himself a moment of obviousness. It would be an honour to wield such a weapon, and while the Space Wolves were normally a touch too crude and unsubtle for him to really get along well with, he half-hoped Yngvar's offer was legitimate. In the chapel, he gravitated towards the statue of Corax, standing looking up at the face of his Father, the Primarch of his Chapter. He turned, searching for the Raptor.

"Brother Alisan, a moment." Looking back up at the stern face of his Primarch, Attano spoke. "There is honour in being a son of the Raven. We are quiet, because we wish to consider our words before speaking, but here I would be heard. I strive to uphold our Father's ideals. In all things, a careful, measured approach. Precision over haste. This is my vow to Corax, but it is in service to an even greater ideal."

Walking slowly, Attano turned away from the statue of his primarch and moved to face the statue of the Emperor. "We go now, to bring the fires of retribution down on those who stand against the Imperium. Your will be manifest. Victorus aut Mortis!" This last he says with clenched fist held against his chest in salute. He stands there for several heartbeats, before looking away.

"This is my vow, Brother Alisan. By your leave, I would witness yours."

Much like his gene-brother, Kvothe gives the thunder hammer an appraising look, but ultimately while he would certainly want to be proven worthy of bearing it, should it be offered to him he would have to defer. In his hands a bolter was far more fitting than a hammer, no matter how powerful.

He took a few more steps into the chapel, doing his best to keep his armor from clanging on the floor. While not normally one for religious fervor, even he felt that to be excessively loud in this place would be... disrespectful.

Kneeling before the image of the Emperor of Mankind, Kvothe began his own oath to him.
"I swear to uphold the principles of the Imperium, to fight the countless foes of our gene-ancestor, and to protect those beneath His aegis. In the name of he who reigns from Terra, I shall fight."

His oath sworn, Kvothe stood back up and looked to his kill-team, waiting patiently for them to finish their own oaths.

Alisan looks at Attano, it was an odd exchange; two Astartes from very private chapters - one asking the other to be witness to something so personal.

He simply nods to his gene cousin.

Placing his Bolter in front of him, Alisan kneels before the representation of the Emperor. "Before the Father of my Father, I pledge my eyes. I will see my enemies before they see me. Before the Father of my Father, I pledge my speed. I will descend upon my enemies before they can react. Before the Father of my Father, I pledge my weapon. I will kill my enemies before they can attack the Imperium. Before the Father of my Father, I pledge my loyalty. I will never falter as long as I serve the Emperor."

He picks up his weapon and stands bsck to attention.

Yngvar seems satisfied with your various oaths. For his own part he merely stands before the statue of Russ and says a few brief words in Fenrisian.

He addresses you all, 'Should be a few hours to warp translation, where I expect to see all of you on the bridge. Until then your time is your own.' As he speaks you can hear the distance noise of the engines as the Crusader prepares to leave Erioch.

So the ship is traveling to the outskirts of the system before it enters the warp. Even for a fast ship, that will take a bit of time. Everyone tell me what you're doing until then and if you're with any of the other marines. The Crusader has most of what you might need to train or prepare yourself for the mission.

Also, everybody roll Wp (Edit - the +10 for Oath of the Emperor applies)
Xeno has to roll Wp and Psyniscience

Remaining silent as the others finished their oaths, Kvothe finally watched as Yngvar swore his own oath, in the very...distinctive language of Fenris. Nodding to the commander, Kvothe pondered what he would do now that they were free for the moment. "Perhaps I will seek out the shooting range," he commented, thinking to himself that he should familiarize himself with his requisitioned equipment before the mission.

Xavier's oath was simple. He touches the icons of Vulkan and the Emperor, then kneels. Father, Grandfather. Give me the strength to protect your people and the wisdom to see your plan. For the people of the Imperium, and for the ideals of my father and grandfather, I will not fail.

Xavier spends the time before warp translation trying to get to know his brother marines better, as well as the staff of the ship.
