Feanir enters the office, making his noble birth clear from his manner of walk and speech, but being polite and respectful at the same time.

Captain Artias, pleased to meet you. I am Lord Feanir of Green Vale. These my travelling companions and I have recently come to know that Sard has been having trouble with bandits. We believe that we can help and, at least myself, consider it my duty. So we have come to offer our help on the matter.

The captain is standing over a desk, annoyedly straightening papers as Feanir walks in, but the arrival of a fellow half-elf, especially one with that noble of a bearing, brightens him up considerably. "Ah yes. And you likewise." He gestures to an array of chairs around the room. "Please, sit. The main thing to know is that our information on the bandits is quite lacking. We know they've stopped all the caravans, don't leave survivors, and steal all the contents. The problem is that if you're not a caravan, they just vanish. I've sent out three teams to search the forest for them, and all we got was that there were weird noises coming from the northwest ruins. The haunted ruins, that is."
He sighs and rolls his eyes at the haunted claim.
"Of course, the council is worried about their security, so they've elected to sit on their fat, mushroom chewing behinds rather than let me empty the barracks and sweep the forest properly. Which sadly, is about the only way I can think of for my men to finish the job."

He seems open to the idea of help, but might need a bit in the way of a plan.

"So, if we want to do this the dumb way, we can ride through the forest with our caravan. Let's call that Plan B. Now all we need to do is figure out what we're doing instead. So..." Silence turns back towards the guard captain. "Is there any obvious place they could be camped at? Any wide clearing near a stream, or such?"

Weylan raises his hand, rooting through papers with the other. It comes up holding a map of the area. "Let's see. All forest on the west, but on the east, hmm. There's the Laerae river, and a couple miles to the northeast of here, there's an old watchpost right by it. I figured that orcs had come across the river and taken it over though."

If Ichor frightens you so much, Aklor may not be where you want to be. Most of the kingdom uses its power. Even this outpost is dealing in it, most likely to enhance or enchant whatever goods are produced here."

Kaladan finds the mention of spooky ruins interesting. "Haunted? What would the ruins supposedly be haunted by?" Though the watchtower by the river seemed a good place to start, the ruins could be just as good a hideout for the bandits.

Feanir adds, Methinks that these haunted ruins are our best bet to start our search. Their reputation keeps people away, and they must offer reasonable shelter and advantageous terrain. I daresay it's a perfect hideout for a group of outlaws.

Captain Artias nods. "I guess we won't even have to go through the council rigmarole if I just let you out the side way." He sounds a guard with you to escort the group to the north gate. Said guard gives you decent instructions on how to find the ruins, and warns you cryptically about plants or something. You leave him behind as you exit the town through a small tower door, much like the one Delf must have used during your arrival. Outside the gate, the road stretches northward, running right through a clearing of fields used for farmland. You begin to suspect magic must have been involved in clearing away a town sized section of the forest.

The Vershel Forest is mostly thick swaths of high-leafed trees, dotted with small glades where the sun can shine through. The group never has to squeeze to pass through, but in some places the tress do grow a little too close for comfort. The reddish light of the setting sun peers through the shade, and you reckon most of the animals are settling down for the day already. As good as the instructions are, you will still need some measure of skill to find your way to the ruins.

    Survival Check please.

Following Kal's keen sense of direction, you soon find the monkey shaped rooted boulder the guard mentioned would be your landmark that the ruins were close by. As you stop to marvel at a monkey shaped rooted boulder being a real thing, the minotaur notices a set of tracks on the ground. They belong to something quadrupedal, about the same size as one of the group, though you'd need to examine them more to try and see what made them. More importantly, the tracks seem to be coming from where the ruins are, ahead on the right, and looping back towards your left. Dare you investigate, or continue on towards the ruins.

You guys can make a nature? check to try and identify the tracks.

The group follows the tracks, hoping the loud repetitive clanging of Kaladin's armor doesn't give away your position. Fortunately, when you see the beast, it's clear it is paying absolutely no attention to its surroundings, instead rooting around in the ground, possibly trying to find a place to dig. Upon first viewing, it looks like a sort of dragondog hybrid, with whitish scales. A closer look reveals golden cracks where some of the scales don't fit right together.
