What does Xykon sound like?
I recently introduced a friend of mine to OotS, and she noticed that in Strip #191, panel 4, Xykon says that he went "down the shore for the weekend". Combined with a few indescribably minor spoilers from Start of Darkness,
she has concluded that Xykon must be from New Jersey. My wife, also a New Jerseyan (Jerseyite?), agrees.Spoiler: SoD spoilers!Xykon likes diners and bad coffee
Clearly, this is ridiculous, cause New Jersey doesn't exist on the Northern Continent. Xykon is much more likely to be from Somewhere Else, Anywhere, or Nowhere even. But this still raises a very valid point: what does Xykon sound like when he speaks?
Given his black speech balloon, it almost definitely has a certain unholy booming hollowness, a chill beyond the grave quality. But there is no evidence that I'm aware of that says he doesn't have a thick New Jersey accent.
So I ask you, dear Playgrounders, what does Xykon sound like to you? Do we have a canon explanation of what his accent might be? Has the Giant spoken on such matters? Please help me resolve this debate in any way you can. It's consuming our lives! Thank you.
P.S. I'm going to take a gamble here and assume that I don't need to explain that I'm being massively, massively flippant about all this. I'd tag this post as Gamer Humor if I could : ).

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
In SoD, Xykon thinks his voice sounds like slightly higher pitched version of James Earl Jones's voice, at least.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
My mental voice always reads him like Darth Malack from Knights of the Old Republic. It captures that very "artificial" note his voice is supposed to have, as well as being cruel and menacing.
“Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit, I haven't done only good in my life. But if I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all.”

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
Spoiler: Start of DarknessVery close to James Earl Jones, apparently.
Also, I theorize that Xykon is from the Southern continent, since he mentions a celestial petting zoo to Lirian and, to the best of my knowledge, hasn't mentioned any other gods. It's probably a stretch, but it's not a terribly important one, so why not?Cuthalion's art is the prettiest art of all the art. Like my avatar.

Well, in my head he sound like James Woods in lighthearted moments. But sometimes (combat or something badass) it can shift to a Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
In my head he's been voice acted by Jack Nicholson ever since 191 "Hey, look, I just regenerated a finger. Guess which one."

Unless I hear otherwise, I'm considering it canon: Xykon is actually from Modern Earth! (specifically NJ)

I never realised till now I've been reading Xykons parts in my head as John DiMaggios normal voice.

Like Tony Jay would sound if he was from Hoboken instead of England.

In my head, somewhat like Gilbert Gottfried. Just a tad deeper.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
I imagine him as sounding like Tim Curry. Redcloak, meanwhile, sounds like Tony Jay.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
Ever since I read Start of darkness, his voice tends to sound like Jack of Blades. in my head, though obviously not nearly as formal as in the link. (Very slight spoiler for a 13 year old video game, on the off chance anyone cares.) Before that he sounded like pretty much anyone else.

I hear James Spader (Ultron without the vocal effects) as Redcloak.
I hear the MitD as Patrick Warburton doing Kronk's voice, but slightly higher pitched maybe?

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
Given that Rich if from the NY/PA/NJ area, "down the shore" is likely an import of local expressions into the strip. Jersey works, though his voice in my head is not flavored that way. (My Mom is from NJ). I don't associate his voice with any particular actor or celebrity's voice.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
I've always thought he sounds like Skeletor (from the He-man cartoons). I have no idea why....

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
I absolutely love this and will retcon my headcanon so Xykon has a Jersey accent.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
Before the James Earl Jones joke, I used to hear him with the same voice as Skeletor (from He-Man).

Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea
Our powers pale compared with the great heroes
Our battles don’t hit theheadlines or shake the earth
But they are few, can’t be everywhere, and we, many
So, when the world or universe needs saving, they come
But when people needs saving, we are the ones to appear
We're underdogs, but we rise up to the challenge to be heroes.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
I totally agree about the James Woods vibe. And you know, Woods can sound pretty darn scary and psychotic when he wants to.
Also, considering the Giant is from the Philadelphia area, it wouldn't be too surprising to imagine Xykon with a bit of a South Jersey/Philly accent (I'm from there too so that's closer to what I imagine than North Jersey).Last edited by jidasfire; 2018-10-25 at 10:18 AM.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
When he tries to be all menacing and Evil, he sounds like Profion/Jeremy Irons, to me. :P
Otherwise I guess Higher JEJ is fine with me too. ^^A neutron walks into a bar and says, “How much for a beer?” The bartender says, “For you? No charge.”

Later: An atom walks into a bar an asks the bartender “Have you seen an electron? I left it in here last night.” The bartender says, “Are you sure?” The atom says, “I’m positive.”

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
Darn. I never really thought about what Xykon sounds like to me. I guess I though of him with a deep, sort of Darth Vadery voice, normally, but when he is angry or confused, more like a deeper Michael Douglas. Dunno why, though.

Re: What does Xykon sound like?
I imagine he sounds not deep at all to me. like, he sounds like this fast talking scum bag whose voice is higher pitched, but has an edge to it where he will talk and emphasize how screwed you are, I'm not good with celebrity names or remembering voices at all, but I just imagine him as a lighter voice, and that he is talking down to everyone.....
voices are hard to describe. look its not jersey or anything like that, or any celebrity, I just have this "light-voiced cynical fast-talking scumbag" voice that I have that fits him to me.
