@Gregory: It is understandable that the servant would be frightened.

Inquisitors have a certain reputation, even among law abiding citizens, of being a tad too harsh and zealous. This, coupled with their divine abilities can inspire feelings of apprehension upon those who aren’t versed in the mystic arts.

“You will be standing? Oh dear... very well. I will let Lord Bardak know. And worry not- I am a very law abiding citizen, Inquisitor.”

Once the king makes his appearance, you kneel and bow before the king, who acknowledges your words.

“Up on your feet, Inquisitor du Vay. Your dedication to this City by serving the Cudgel is admirable. I trust the High Inquisitor tremendously and value his insight. He definitely chose well.

And I am certain his health will recover. Calchis is a strong man. And not only in spirit.”

Once the presentation begins, you refuse to take a seat and refuse to reduce your size. This will not happen. Your training requires you to be Large all the time, regardless of where you and who might disagree or dislike.

And although your size does make a few guests uncomfortable due to you invading their space, they’ll have to take it. That’s the law.

The light show is nice and the metal horse is... okay. It’s no Galavant.

And then lord Ashford shows everyone the giant mechanical... thing. The Dragon’s Flight and asks if there are questions.

The nobles turn around, rather bemused at your height and words, but Lord Ashford simply chuckles.

“This isn’t an image, Inquisitor du Vay. This is our latest creation. You must be too far back to notice.

This vehicle will not be seen above ground. It’s meant to run on rails below Halmathan. It’s a transportation vehicle. Think of a carriage, but able to accommodate a lot more passengers... and without the need of horses.

Any other questions from our esteemed crowd?”

FInishing his fifth drink and fishing a sixth one, Camus stop his drinking when the man at the door announce His Highness, the King Airdan. Of all savages, he's probably the nicest one: a well respected and loved King, descendent of the legendary Queen Maira.

He watch as many flock around him but remain standing where he is until the king approach him with his winged guard. Maybe some sort of exotic pet?

"If there is one thing wizards dont like to share are secrets, but who knows, right?", he says with a smile that fade a little bit as he call him Master Griswold, "Ah, Grand Master Griswold had some matters to attend at Runestone. I'm Archmage Camus and I'm representing him and Runestone, your Majesty".

Being the representant of Runestone sure had some advantages in the end, as he's called to join the king in his table. Watching through the presentation and watching as Gregory du Vay refuse to shrink down even after the king asked him to make Camus wonder how could he attain such a high position in his church by being so bull headed... But then he remembers what church he belongs to.

At the sight of the Dragon's Flight (a monstruosity of steel) and after listening to the inquisitor's question, he look to Daun and whisper, "Maybe the SMC will hire him to drag it around. Put that size for good use", he jokes and look at the Ashford and Skylarios nobles. Soon he'll have to find a way to speak to them.

"I do have some questions, but those are better to your ears alone, Lord Skylarios", he tell the man and look at the gigantic... thing. "Some I can openly ask, such as how many of those exist and what kind of energy power the Dragon Flight?"

Daun isn't one to attach significance to titles and ranking, in general: we are all born equal. Some may achieve more than others, but ultimately people are not so different as society would like them to believe. In general. King of Hamalthan Marcus Airdan IV is an exception, and even Daun treats him with the reverence his title deserves. Even if she hadn't been raised with the utmost respect for the king, which she had, Marcus had been a good king to the city, as good as Daun could have reasonably expected. So he had more than earned her respect in that regard as well.

She curtsied with the others as he was announced, and stood up straighter as the King directly approached her. Has he mistaken me for someone else? What's going on? She quickly stifled her nerves, being mostly successful. When it became clear that it was no mistake and he kissed her hand, Daun started to turn a deep pink. But she was not some timid courtly woman to let nerves get the better of her. She smiled and said, "Daun, your Majesty. I would be delighted."

She walks off to join the King and other royalty without sparing a look to the undoubtedly envious others behind her. Eat your heart out, folks. She can't help but feel extremely smugly satisfied. With a sense of surrealness, she takes the literal right hand seat of the King and watches as the presentation begins. Her mind wanders a bit during the Hamalthan history (she's heard this sort of thing several times before...) and she gets the vague sense of dropping. Curiously, she pulls a petal from the rose in her hair and drops it from the height of her head. Sure enough, it almost seems to hang in the air in front of her, lazily drifting back and forth. In actuality it's falling completely normally, but the petal falls slowly enough that the table beneath it falls away at the same rate. Against her better judgement, she points this out to the King if he is not terribly rapt in the history of Hamalthan: "I think we're lowering under SMC..." she whispers, pointing to the rose petal.

Sure enough they eventually stop, and the petal finally drops to the table. When the curtains go up and reveal the Dragon's Flight, Daun gasps with the rest. But unlike the others, she does not stand, and she doesn't applaud. "What... on Oerth... is that." The look on her face can fairly be described as disgust and horror. Camus's jest falls a bit on deaf ears: she flickers a smile to indicate that she heard him, but she doesn't even look away. Sitting forward in her seat, Daun's attention is rapt on the Dragon's Flight. Questions? Oh yes, she had several. And she was adding to the list every second. Daun does her best to keep her voice polite, but even on a good day the fire never really leaves her words. "You're going to be digging tunnels for it then? All throughout the city? And how will people get to it if it stays below ground?"

Camus's first question shocks her. She hadn't even considered the possibility that there might be more than one of these.

@Camus: You have heard of the King.

Well, who hasn't? The man is known for walking all over the City. rarely if ever has he been known for being at Runestone, but as far as you know, King Marcus isn't a wizard, so there is little reason for him to be on campus.

And this is not gone unnoticed by the King himself when you reply with the same wit, causing him to smile as you are all ushered in.

"That's a good answer, Archmage Camus. Everyone has secrets in this little burg. If we didn't... then it would all be rather boring, don't you think? Send my regards to Grand Master Griswold when you see him, then. I am sure the Academy has put a lot of effort into this.""

Griswold never mentioned you'd be sitting with the King of Halmathan himself, but here you are. And as the lights go out and the light show begins, with all the images and narration, you can surmise they are using some form of illusions to project the images on screen, along with further illusions to create the disembodied voice. This comes as no surprise, though:

Many Runestone mages work here. You have to if you even plan to get a company like this off the ground.

As for the steed Lord Bardak rode in? That's a Clockwork Steed. A construct made to resemble a horse. Incredibly expensive to make and a rarity, even for a City such as this. A clockwork steed functions much like a warhorse, but they are made of pistons and gears and metal plating. More durable than a regular horse, but again, rarely if ever used in the field of battle due to the resources required to build one.

And once that metal monster is revealed to everyone, you look at it as both lords stand in front of it and mention how such a big thing might even move, suggesting that perhaps good Inquisitor du Vay could be harnessed in front and drag it.

King Marcus stifles a chuckle as he looks at Halmathan's Hulking Hierophant several tables away.

    "Now be nice, Archmage Camus:

Despite his appearance, he's not a robot.... ""

And when the time for Q&A begins and the inquisitor mistakes the Dragon's Flight for another image and is corrected by Lord Ashford, the King strokes his beard and glances quickly at the Cuthbertine.

"...I may have to retract on my earlier statement."

But then you address Lord Bardak in front of everyone, bringing up your questions, both private and public. The SMC's founder grins widely and addresses the crowd.

"And this, my friends, is why we hire wizards. See what I mean? As to your question, Archmage:

My first instinct would be to reply by saying... "Magic!"...hehehhehee!""

He even raises his hands, in a mockery gesture, which elicits laughter from the crowd and then calms them down by waving his hand.

"We hired some of the finest engineers the world over and also the best technicians at Runestone. A combination of minds put together in order to further Halmathan's Future. The details of its manufacture are too lengthy, complex and, admittedly... boring to go over at this moment. I am sure Runestone can get more detailed information at a later time.

And you are looking at the first of many in the Dragon's Flight line.""

@Daun: Your mother must be feeling rather happy right now.

Her dirty hippie daughter not only attending an event of Halmathan's social elite... but seated with the King? Wedding bells are ringing, alright. The same cannot be said about your fellow blue bloods, who seethe internally and get that wrenching feeling in their corsets, getting just a little tighter because of it.

The king takes your arm, strong as a king's arm ought to be and walks you to the table.

"The honor is all mine, Miss Daun. Perhaps later you can illuminate me later on the happenings of the druid community at Glenndale. It has been awhile since I took a stroll down the park."

Once the event begins and the lights go off, you do feel the sense of dropping and test your theory by letting a single rose petal float down off your hair and indeed... you are descending, something you let King Marcus know as he nearly nods off during the presentation.

"I thought that sinking feeling was just me. You get used to it when you attend these things.""

And then the Dragon's Flight is revealed to the City as a whole, eliciting grand applause. A mechanical marvel. Urban Transportation... what can be better than that?

The number of problems inherent in that contraption are too many to number, but you may at least start firing off with a few as Lord Ashford addresses you from the stage.

"Lady Tersetti, of course. Why am I not surprised? Let it be known to everyone here:

No trees where harmed during the making of this presentation.""

The nobles laugh and clap while King Marcus keeps his arms folded and urges you with his sight alone to press with your questions.

"We have been digging underground, yes. Most of the areas below Halmathan were already concave and expedited construction. The fact that nobody was aware of the work done attests to the triumph that is the Dragon's Flight.""

Lord Ashford turns his back to you and extends his arms towards the great machine.

"Halmathan has over one million people. Our studies show that over a thousand migrate here yearly. We are at the cusp of Power in a City so aptly named and deserving of such title. That means new jobs. That means more housing development and of course, that means transportation.""

Lord Ashford turns around to face the crowd and puts his hands together.

"A network, running underground. Connecting everyone and getting them where they want. Runestone has wizards and the finest all over the world, but not everyone is blessed with such knowledge and means. The Dragon's Flight will be able to transport honest good people all across the City and reduce crowd control on the surface. The way of the carriage and cart, pulled by the wise mule and mighty steed will become a loving memory.

As for how people will get in and out? Well, we have just begun this presentation."

@The Party EXCEPT Ilven: A cadre of beautiful ladies dressed in uniform walk out of the shadows and direct each and every one of you towards the gigantic machine, as it lights up and doors slide open releasing a gout of cold scented steam as Lord Bardak stands before the ladies in uniform who salute all of you with a flashy smile.

"Only the finest service for the finest people. These are our trained service technicians. They will cater to all your needs so as to make your journey that much more enjoyable. Please follow these lovely ladies to your assigned seats and corresponding carts.""

The interior of the Dragon's Flight is nothing short of impressive. The floor is mahogany with a red carpet running all the way across the strip. Seats made of leather with bronze filigree and adorned with the Ashford emblem- a dragonfly- line each cart.Above each seat, is a compartment, which the ladies in uniform tap lightly to show a silently sliding space to store any personal items.

A beautiful set of bronze sconces bearing a maiden's bust with their hands outstretched hold an Ever Burning torch. These have been placed every twenty feet along the walls of the carts, but never intruding onto the seats themselves.

King Marcus is caught unaware by one of the ladies who bows deeply and gestures for him, Sir Randolph, Kalir, Daun and Camus to take the main cart, which is vastly superior in decoration, with actual paintings on the walls depicting Halmathan in its early years, showing beautiful bucolic landscapes.

Lord Ashford bids all of you to take a seat and then sits on his own place as he calls one of the ladies.

"A bottle of champagne for his majesty. So? We haven't even started our little trip, what do you think?""

King Marcus smiles to the lady and tries to get as comfortable on his seat as possible.

"It's...nice. You say this is the first one of many. Are all going to be the same?"

"That would be a fevered dream, your Highness. The cost alone to mass produce a luxury machine such as this one would take way more resources. The later iterations will be just as efficient."

@Gregory: One of the ladies keeps her flashy smile as she looks up at you and hails Lord Bardak, who clacks his heels together and bows to you.

"Ah! Inquisitor du Vay...almost didn't see you, heh.

I may have to reconsider the help I am hiring- I believe I asked one of my staff to deliver a message to you regarding your current height. The Dragon's Flight will not accommodate someone of your size. This is in accordance of safety measures and The Law.

If you for some reason cannot reduce your height, we will all be sadder for it, but worry not:

One of my staff members can escort you outside."

To be trading okes with a King (and not any king) was something Camus could be used to. Specially if the end of the joke was someone who had the audacity to call him a potential criminal.

He listen his host to give the obvious answer for his question and, not much convinced by it, reply to the noble.
"Magic is an universal answer for lay people, but I'm sure an archmage will have the understanding to speak of these complex details. If you dont mind, we might talk after as I do have a few more questions about it that".

Once inside the Dragon's Flight, he watch the dragonfly insignia and look around, "Out of curiosity: what is the Skylarios' family symbol?", he ask one of the lovely ladies, taking notes of each detail, since he will probably have to report it for the Runestone's Grand Masters.

Being taken to the luxury wagon, he watch in awe for the luxury they managed to put in it.
"Is the Dragon's Flight operable already or is there any inauguration date set already?", he Lord Ashford as he is served champagne, "And more importantly: congratulations on your new marvel. I was promised to get enthralled and I feel like it".

Gregory grimaces when he realizes his mistake. The screen had obviously dropped to reveal the monstrosity. He takes it in stride; humility is obviously a lesson St. Cuthbert intends to teach him this eve. So be it.

He nods at Lord Bardak. "They delivered your message, milord. Obviously they couldn't explain the reasoning behind it, or it would have ruined your show. I chose to disregard it at the time. But seeing this 'Dragon's Flight', I believe I shall accompany you after all."

With those words, he finally dismisses the righteous might spell, rapidly shrinking until he is at half the height he was a moment ago, around six feet four.

"Thank you your Grace. I would be honored to visit Furyondy as your guest." Seeing someplace new and getting some new competition would be fun.

Just before exiting the carriage Kalir dons an eagle shaped half-mask. It hid his eyes from others behind rubies but its magic enhanced his own keen eyes and protected him from some forms of attack that would hinder his current duty. At this point socializing was not part of that. He also counted on his martial training to enhance his hearing. He would notice even an invisible enemy trying to approach closely.

Escorting the king through the crowd Kalir was pleasantly surprised by the king's attention to Daun. If it weren't for his half-mask one would see the Royal Guard's eyebrow raise, although a quick smile may have been caught. He nods in greeting to Daun then focuses back on his work.

Kalir only gave the presentation half his attention. A darkened environment with the crowd's attention elsewhere did open an opportunity for trouble. He was not the paranoid type could stay focused on his mission quite well. The bull display earlier had him wondering how powerful it was, could he best it without using flight before it gored him deep? The Clockwork Steed? He was sure he could crush it with one swing of his flail. Still, it was useful for those stuck on the ground but who could afford it.

The few times he had faced a dragon he had used every ounce of his skills to not be engulfed by it. The point was not missed by the raptoran.

He takes the box in surprise, "Thank you, you're doing an excellent job. I'll do everything I can to find them." What had he agreed to this time? Get a child to do the asking and he'd buy a bridge, apparently.

"I'll send someone official in the morning to check on you, alright?" But she's already gone. Smart girl. Now for the matter of the Crow... Ilvan slides the box into a pocket near the letter. Important things should stay together for now.

Not everything has to be connected, you fool, Ilvan thinks to himself. Still, the child was talking about Hunters, and there had been a Hunter right there. The Hunter, if reputations were to be believed. Even if it was gone now, there was still the suspicion that the beast might be standing right behind him with a gleaming dagger... Somehow it was better when he could see it.

And that smell- his steps echo as he walks the quiet streets around the girl's home, unconsciously following part of an old beat as he checks that the Hunter had been the source of the foul scent, and not some poor soul bleeding out in a gutter.

"I'd be happy to share. Life in Glenndale is never as calm and placid as it appears on the surface." She says as the King escorts her. Never in a hundred years did she think she might get the kings personal ear tonight. Daun knew her reputation preceded her, but either the King had suddenly developed a deep concern for the sanctity of life, or there were some politics at play. For the time being she chose to believe the former. She notices Kalir among the guards, and flashes the raptoran a smile, hoping they'll be able to chat later. I suppose there are at least a few friendly faces. Still, he seemed focused on duty for now.

As the Dragon's Flight is revealed and Lord Ashford makes a jab about trees, Daun fights back a few choice words and keeps her polite tones. "It's hardly the trees I'm worried about, Lord. More the toxic smog that tends to arise from SMC. Into the air is one thing perhaps, but underground I fear it will only go up through the earth: into the good citizens homes and basements and drinking water. But I trust you have already found a way around that?" As much as she doesn't believe he has, she genuinely hopes the Lord will surprise her.

Regardless of the answer, Daun boards with the others. Into the belly of the beast... It's hard not to be impressed. Vile as it may be, the machine was still a marvel of time, planning, resources, and engineering. And the luxury was not lost on her. Still, despite the expensive seats it was hard for her to get comfortable.

"How fast does this thing travel? I imagine it might take some time to get this much weight moving faster than a walking pace. And for that matter, how does it stop if something is on the rails? Camus, I believe we might actually be on her maiden voyage."

    @Ilvan: A music box?

What good is a box like this? It won't help you find the girl's mother. No matter. Once day breaks, you can contact a City Guard to assist further with the investigation. Sadly, people in big cities disappear all the time. Even in a place like this, with so many churches and branches of the militia, accidents happen. When you have such a melting pot of cultures and creeds... some of these take a turn for the worse.

Hell, Callum nearly died apprehending one earlier today. The child has receded in toe safety of her home. Behind these barred windows, it would be very difficult for any danger to reach her.

But what about you? Going out like Galahad into the fog filled streets...alone. It is said that the Helguard are considered the mightiest force ever trained in the world, reason why there were so few at its inception and a lot fewer afterwards.

However that Hunter... The Crow. There is no precedent of a fight between both groups ever. The Helguard dealt with problems outside. The Hunters preyed in these very streets. They know the ground they stalk. And they know it well. Let us hope it doesn't come to it. You are very well equipped. A true veteran of an age best gone by, but will it be enough?

There is a reason you trained at the Blooming Lotus all those years ago. From what little you can recall of those grim marches out into the unknown, mages were always the first to meet a grisly death. Such was the nature of those expeditions, that even the few priests that signed up found themselves unable to bring them back. It is rather difficult to do that when the body has been torn into ten different pieces, each far more unrecognizable and bloodied than the one before. And if somehow they managed to stitch the body back together, the soul of the poor bastard never did answer the Earthly call.

    Who would want to?

It may be for that reason that Captain Ludwig eventually saw the use of mages into the ranks of the Helguard as a liability, contrary to popular belief that a wizard can solve it all. That isn't to say that a few of the more reputable members of your Order were not versed in the secrets of the arcane. One in particular was a rather consummate warrior, meshing both Blade and Spell into a beautiful dance of Blood and Death...

If only you could remember who it was? When it comes to your former comrades, your mind always shuts down. A mental reflex, if you will.

And so, this brings us to the now. As you focus your senses and pick up the scent of blood down the streets. These are empty. Only faint sounds from the homes and buildings nearby as you cross a small bridge and catch the upwind draft, puncturing your nostrils with the smell of fresh blood. Somebody has been busy...no. Somebody IS busy, as you find a few drops of blood on the cobblestone streets and the scent of incense long gone before you look up at the rooftops for any sign of the Crow...

That Hunter could be anywhere at this point. This City is huge and The Crow seems to favor elevated places, where arrows are hard to find their mark amidst the dark and the tall chimney stacks and gothic statues, perfect for cover.

And then you stop, already leaving the child's house an eternity behind you as the fog drifts slowly around the entrance and largest source of the blood, fresh from a wound:

    Oedon's Tomb.

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in Halmathan. Not very big, but it does allow one to enter Old Halmathan. If you have the key, which is said to be kept by the caretaker. Few people go to Old Halmathan today. Things happened there. An early attempt to cleanse the Scourge. Whatever did transpire, it wasn't enough and so, the Hunters were sent in to handle the situation.

Today, Old Halmathan remains apart from the City as a whole. Nobody would willingly live in a place covered in the ashes of their loved ones, after all. But the scent of blood is stronger here. Hard to make out anyone from where you are, given that the cemetery's design has you go down a flight of steps before you enter the holy grounds properly.

How you go about this, Old Helguard... is up to you.

@Camus: Patronizing nobles... that won't work on you.

Lord Bardak's smile somewhat reverts to a frown upon your words, but is quick to flash that million platinum smile.

"How true it is, Archmage Camus! Many in this City, unable or unwilling to grasp the more intricate workings of The Academy and what we do here, go for a straight and far simpler answer. They do not wish to go in depth about it. Rest assured that Runestone will get a detailed information regarding what you are requesting on their behalf.""

And once inside the Dragon's Flight, with its top of the line design and comfortable seats and beautiful paintings, you ask one of the waitresses, wearing a neat uniform, fit for a machine of this caliber, flashes you a smile upon your question regarding the Skylarios' crest, since the Ashford one is clearly imprinted upon every seat.

It's Lord Ashford who sends the lady away to get the drinks and looks at you.

"The Skylarios crest is a Cog, intertwined with a Sword pointing upwards. A way of telling the world that his family are pioneers of the Industrial Revolution that we have been graced to live in.""

Lord Ashford calls you to his side and lowers his voice as the other passengers board different carts.

"I believe your Maesters gave you something? A set of scrolls in a case. Now would be a good time to hand them over, Archmage. And you'd be right:

This is the Dragon's Flight maiden voyage. The first of its kind to travel the tunnels of Halmathan.""

This is said with much pride by Lord Ashford, but you can tell that King Marcus has adopted a serious expression as one of the ladies hands him a glass of champagne, but says nothing as Sir Randolph looks at Lord Ashford and remains equally quiet.

@Kalir: The chance to go see a new land? Why not?

You have not really heard of Furyondy, but Sir Randolph speaks highly of it and his family, who lord over its lands. Like his church, it would seem paladins of Heironeous have a solid ground there. You have bested tested your skills here and outside the City, but who knows what foreign warriors have attained martially? If his niece is as skilled as Sir Randolph claims, it would be a most exciting match.

As for the gala event itself, you play the part rather well- even with the lights turned off and attention directed at the main stage, you are ever wary of your surroundings. Doubtful that anyone would be foolish enough to attempt any type of attack- they would be crushed. You faced dragons and have lived to tell the tale.

A man, no matter his training, is no dragon. If anyone comes looking for trouble, they have to go through you...and they better bring an army if they wish to have a chance against you.

As for the machines on display... they break, just like any opponent. Instead of blood, they spill oil, but in the end, scrap is scrap. Of course, it would be very doubtful for those things in glass cases to go berserk. No accidents of any nature have been reported from the SMC. Contrary to Daun's accusations, they are clean.

And once inside The Dragon's Flight, you do your best to not crush your wings against the seat as the lady in uniform and a flashy smile pours you a glass, to which King Marcus nods.

"I won't tell if you won't, Kalir. Maxil doesn't need to know. Have a glass. I sure need one. Or two... although our Archmage friend seems to have enjoyed more than two, if I had to guess.""

And then the King looks at Daun, Camus and the others present.

"Kalir is a Royal Guard. Tonight, he is watching my back. Although I doubt any cloak and dagger situations may arise, surrounded by such nobles as I am. Nonetheless, he is to be treated with utmost respect. He is a soldier of the City and a one who has earned his stripes.""

@Daun: King Marcus listens to your words and nods approvingly at your comment regarding the Park and what transpires within.

"I couldn't agree more, Miss Daun. Only a fool would try to pick a fight with the druid community. Lady Silvarel may not show it, but believe me- she is ferocious in the rare instances when an idiot pushes the wrong buttons. I was hoping to see her, but I had another person in mind. Someone like you, of renown in the Ehlonnian Community may shed some light into it.""

King Marcus takes a deep breath and you can tell he is not happy at the topic at hand.

"Vicar Amelia. What do you know of her? Do you keep in touch with that priestess? Has she been running things well in Lady Silvarel's absence? You don't need to answer right away. Just musings of an old man.""

Not one to be outsmarted by Lord Ashford, you bring up the issue of pollutants seeping into the ground, which may hit a water reservoir and cause massive health problems to those living above.

You can already see your mother at another table. Her face contorting from rage and embarrassment. Everything was going so well...and you had to go activist.

"I admire your concern, Lady Tersetti. My father's designs are flawless. The Dragon;s Flight travels underground. Before polluting any surrounding terrain, fumes could potentially be hazardous for the passengers.

Because of that, The Dragon's Flight uses high end technology to ensure that nobody and nothing is affected. The smog you mentioned earlier? That can be cleaned as well. We would not want to turn the City into a cloud of toxic vapors, now would we? Like I mentioned earlier, we are Captains of Industry, Miss Tersetti.

Halmathan's Life is our Business. And making it better is what we are all about.""

Once seated in the great and marvelous machine, the questions keep pouring, as do the champagne. Lord Ashford smiles and takes a sip of his drink.

"Perhaps you should consider working for one of my companies, being so interested in them after all. The Dragon's Flight has an average starting speed of seventeen miles per hour. At its peak, it can reach eighty five miles. despite its size, it was designed with speed in mind. What better way to have good Halmathans reaching their destination at the right time, wouldn't you say?

As for something on the rails... that is quite charming in its naivety. We make sure that nothing is on the rails. If, for some reason there would be an obstacle, this fully functional machine can sense it and stop several feet away, breaking slowly so as to avoid harming its passengers. A safer mode of transportation you will not find.""

    @Gregory: For all things holy!

You need to be big. It is the only way to keep this City safe, if you are a giant. Now, you could leave. Galavant should still be outside...

But High Inquisitor Calchis did ask for you to attend the event in his stead. And so, reluctantly, you dismiss the Righteous Might Blessing and shrink down to a more acceptable size, garnering Lord Bardak a smug smile.

"I guess we got lost in translation! Which means I won't be firing anyone tonight. Please follow me to the deluxe cart- a seat for the High Inquisitor is awaiting you.""

A lot of bronze and red carpets and cushioned seats and Halmathan's finest royals and the King himself are already seated enjoying a glass of champagne as one of the ladies, with her bright flashy smile, invites you to take a seat and pours you a glass while Lord Bardak takes his seat and takes a sip of his drink.

"We are most thankful for the Inquisitor's presence here. I could not feel any safer.""

King Marcus half smiles at the noble and raises his glass to you and everyone present.

"For good company... is this it?""

@The Party EXCEPT Ilven: The doors shut by themselves and a soothing female voice can be heard in every cart:

Welcome to The Dragon's Flight first of many travels around The City of Power! You may feel slightly disoriented at first, but this is only natural- such a vehicle has not been built ever and used.

Our qualified service technicians will cater to your every whim. Enjoy the ride....

It's a light shudder from the immense metal box as Sir Randolph clings to the sides of his seat.

    "I'd rather ride my steed!""

King Marcus places his glass on a small tray in front of his seat and watches it wobble a bit, testing whether it will fall or not. Thankfully, it does not as a loud whistle can be heard outside and the hulking metal marvel begins chugging slowly at first as lights go on outside the windows and the Dragon's Flight is off.

You can all hear the applause and cheers from the carts behind you- most must be already rather tipsy, since the SMC made sure everyone had plenty to drink before the presentation and while seated.

This machine is fast, as it travels underground and the lights from the torches flicker and wave back and forth, threatening to snuff out any moment before Lord Ashford looks at all of you.

"This is Halmathan's Future. Something to tell your children. You are being a part of history...""

Kalir gladly accepts the glass of champagne. "Thank you your Majesty." He raises his glass in a quick toast to those around him before having a drink. Several glasses worth wouldn't affect him nor did he care of Maxil's knowledge of it. Besides, it was at the king's request.

"Lord Ashford, where have the tunnels been dug? Any notable findings? More importantly, where are we headed?"

Daun nods as they sit down and the presentation begins. "I know her. I'll tell you about her if we have a moment after this show..."

    ***

Lord Ashford's answer seems to placate Daun... for the time being. She still had concerns abound, but the pollutants had been her primary worry and she doubted that Ashford would be simply lying straight to her about it.

On the Dragon's Flight, she seems more placated by the machine's stopping capabilities. "Thank you for humoring me. I've never traveled in something that hasn't been steered before. I suppose a boat is similar, but they can turn and aren't generally at risk of slamming into brick walls if they drift off course."

She joins the King's toast, and watches the flickering lights outside as they travel, when she remembers the King's question from before.

"Vicar Amelia is doing well, by the way. She's always been a bit... well, strange. But she's been a fine stand-in while Lady Silvarel is away, and as far as I can see she fits in quite nicely. Is there anything in particular you're curious about?"

@Kalir: Who would go against the king's word?

That bubbly taste feels good as you address Lord Ashford about where this contraption is headed as the lights from the tunnel outside zoom past, leaving streaks of it amidst the chugging sounds of the Dragon's Flight.

".... thankfully, there wasn't much digging needed. Halmathan has wide open spaces below ground. Nothing that will endanger any structures on the surface, I can assure you. As to what we found?

I am sorry to disappoint, but just a pile of rocks. Not very climactic, is it? I am aware of people jumping at shadows. Being superstitious and some might even say stupidly over cautious. The old tales... they are just that. The day of the spelunking group of desperadoes marching in a single file- usually the wizard in the rear- and stopping every few feet to check for some imagined threat is, frankly, a very entertaining if false account of life.""

Sir Randolph puts his glass down and looks straight at Ashford as the lights flicker and the machine keeps moving forward.

"You do realize that this City was built on these so called 'desperadoes' you mock? Brave men and women who fought and gave their lives for this City to prosper and have people like you today sitting in a fancy metal casket, sipping champagne with a fool's smug. I can assure you, sir:

There is nothing imagined about anything you claim!""

Lord Ashford remains calm at such accusation and shrugs.

"You may be right, Lord Brunhausser. But those same tales are the ones my boy idealizes with almost religious fervor and wild abandon. He's eight."

It's awkward silence for a full minute before King Marcus places his hand on Sir Randolph's shoulder and calms the old paladin.

"I think we are all just a tad overwhelmed by this new marvel your company has made. I am an outdoors man myself, so being trapped in a metal box can be a little difficult to get used to... but you were going to tell us where this stops? It does stop somewhere, right?""

Lord Ashford glances at Sir Randolph for a few seconds and then smiles.

"Yes it does. We are currently building several stations around Halmathan. We won't be able to stop at them since they are under construction, but the tour is designed to slow its speed so everyone can see our staff hard at work. We expect these stations to be finished by the end of the year, probably less.

So far, we have stations being built at Rashema's Marina, Glenndale Park, Cathedral Ward, The Royal District and debating on whether building one for The Castello too."

King Marcus takes sip from his drink and looks out the window as the lights flash by.

"I don't think a station at the Castelllo is needed... see? That was an easy debate.""

@Daun: Once on board The Dragon's Flight, Lord Ashford motions for one of the stewardesses to wheel in a silver table with a lid on it as she lifts it, revealing several dishes, mostly small appetizers that include copious amounts of foie gras, bread, and pork, cooked to perfection and marinaded in a cranberry sauce.

"We hired the finest chef in Halmathan for this evening. Please enjoy. As for your query- The Dragon's Flight isn't an automaton. It has certain security measures, but we understand that leaving it all to a machine is potentially dangerous. So, we have trained staff that operate the Dragon's Flight. Once we begin further construction of more, the SMC will be opening job positions. Reason why I mentioned the importance of expanding this vision and the profit it will generate to everyone."

On the subject of Vicar Amelia, well... there isn't much to say.

You are a druid of Ehlonna and although the Vicar serves under Lady Silvarel, her ties to The Healing Church are just as strong. There is little to no reason as to why the King might be interested in her. If anything, she avoids the public eye. Like many church leaders, given that not all have shown here tonight.

King Marcus listens to your words and strokes his beard in thought.

"Be a dear. Once we are off this Marvel of Marvels, could you keep an eye on her? Not that she's done anything bad- she hasn't... but given her former duties, I like to keep track of them, every so often."

"I'm sure we can talk about those matters on a better opportunity", Camus says to Lord Bardak and let him finish his show.

Once inside the train, the elf start asking questions to one of the many pretty servants when Lord Ashford come to speak to him. "A cog with a sword pointing upwards? A very interesting crest that of the Skylarios' Family. I fail to see any of them here though", he says looking to one of the many dragonfly's crest, but he drops the topic once he get inside the main cart.

This train was really something. It's the mention of the scroll, that wake up Archmage Camus.
"I was planning on handing when I had that private talk, but sure", he says and give each lord one of the scrolls in metal case, "I hope you know what those are".

"And the maiden voyage, huh? This whole thing was tested, right?", he says more to himself and drink some champagne, "And some might say Seven is the perfect number", he says looking to the King, "The sum of the the divine Three with the mathematically perfect Four, reason some scribe seven-pointed stars to...", he stop talking a little and opening a smile, "Nevermind. Wizard's secrets".

Once the King address the raptoran, Camus give him a slightly bow, "I believe I saw you some time ago at Runestone. I believe you were looking for a magic blacksmith or something? Heard some stories about a dragonslayer winged guard and I take it was about you as I dont think there are many that fit that criteria even in a city as big as Hamalthan, right?"

When the topic goes to pollution, Camus scratch his chin and look to Lord Ashford, "I would like to see your solutions regarding that after as well. I've read a few articles regarding rare instances of arcane pollution and I believe it might be worth checking on that if your engineers haven't, since some have unexpected effects...", he swas saying but stop when the whole thing start speeding up, "Oh, it's alive".

He listen sfor the rest of the conversation and, seeing King Marcus' apparent disconfort, he come closer and confort him, "Dont worry: I'm sure this train is safe. And if against all odds it isnt I can teleport you out in safety".

When he finds the drops of blood, a whispered command and Ilvan's fully armed. Unlike his typical clothing, he's made no effort to update his armor to the current fashions- it protects, it's well-kept, and that's enough.

Trying to be a hero... Ilvan thought he'd put all that behind him ages ago when he'd retired. Or before that, when he signed his life to the Helguard. He'd done his duty, nothing more. (Maybe less... memory is a tricky thing.) And yet here he was in the dead of night, following a trail of blood through the city streets. Maybe he'd started to believe those ridiculous stories.

Still, however much bravado is involved, he can't help but feel a rush of relief as the Hunter is nowhere to be found. Hopefully it was just some common cut-purse trying to expand their repertoire into cutting throats.

Stone steps to the graveyard- he didn't need his darkvision to tell him that these stairs felt too open, too exposed to whatever was here. And he was very, very alone, no comrades to watch his back or scout ahead. Best be careful. Another word and the edges of his armor seem to waver and fade.

Then- nothing else for it but to follow the stench as quietly as he can.

Kalir fumed inside with Lord Ashford's denial of reality. Thoughts of dangling him from a rope while flying then dropping him off alone back where Kalir was born would do the ignoramus some good, if he survived. The place the raptoran had originally called home had a complex of caves where other creatures have assuredly made their home since. Maybe even another real dragon. Would Ashford even live long enough to wet his pants? Could this man understand how he insults the king and the Helguard? If Sir Randolph's words here had no effect on Ashford, then this topic was hopeless, for now.

Mentally trying to distance himself from the above naivete , Kalir returns the nod to the mage, having noted his name earlier. "Archmage Camus. Yes, that would have been me. The enchantments quicken the elimination of deadly enemies that exist beyond the city. I do though hope that the city's new raptoran population will make such names for themselves given time."

Kalir couldn't help overhear the king's concern about Vicar Amelia. Although the Royal Guard would stay silent here, he would keep that in mind for future reference.

@Camus: Lord Ashford listens to your comment about the Skylarios sign and smiles.

"Although the SMC provided the man power, it was my family that came up with the necessary vision for the Dragon's Flight construction. My father, Sir Edward, wrote down the blueprints and then had the mages at Runestone act upon them according to its specifications.

Of course, we do give the SMC credit. But ultimately, the Dragon's Flight is my family's vision made a reality. And one we will be sharing with every single person in Halmathan very soon."

And once both Captains of Industry are aboard the metal vessel and this one has gained momentum, you take out both scroll cases and hand them to Lord Bardak and Ashford, who look at each other and smile before grinning.

"Of course we know what it is. Please extend our gratitude to Runestone for them upon your return. We will be doing so formally in the following days."

And then all sides begin conversing. With some sides getting more heated than others and you bring up the most obvious question, to which Lord Ashford looks directly at the king.

"You bet it has, Archmage Camus. It certainly has been tested. We are perfectly safe...""

And then you address the Hawk in the room.

Kalir the Raptoran. Halmathan's Royal Guard is mainly comprised of knights that excel at blade and spell. There is no denying that they have perfected such pairing rather well, since a few of them attended Runestone. Of course, it is difficult to train the mind and body at the same time and achieve the ultimate 'Mage Knight', if you will. Eitther you commit one, or the other. There is nobody you know that can boast the powers of an Archmage and a legendary swordsman in one. There simply are no such records anywhere. Having said that, the Royal Guard is bloody efficient, but to call them true wizards... that would be a bit of a stretch.

And then there are those who trained at The Blooming Lotus. They are highly skilled with the blade. Perhaps even more so than your run of the mill warrior fresh off the barracks. The Sublime Way opens a whole new book of tricks for mundanes to be almost on par with a wizard.

    Almost.

And perhaps because of that, those without the means to weave the arcane tapestry into their blades come to Runestone to get theirs enchanted by those who can. Kalir, being a true Initiator through and through, would lack the skills required to do this on his own and as a result, his Thresher most likely bears Runestone's emblem somewhere on its surface.

And when the subject of dragons are brought up, Sir Randolph looks at Lord Ashford.

"Imaginary creatures? Folk tales? This man has dealt with them before.""

Lord Ashford finishes his drink and takes out a tiny flat silver box from his pocket, tapping it once as it springs open and takes out a cigarette as one of the ladies, always with a flashing smile, lights it up for him as the man takes a deep puff.

"I do not doubt Master Kalir's experiences out there. I believe he dealt with some manner of creature or creatures... but dragons are non existent. It isn't unheard of for some reptiles to attain abnormally large sizes and this, coupled with a more folkloric train of thought, would lead people to immediately associate them with "Dragons".

And yes: The irony is not lost upon me that we christened this vehicle after them. Marketing did extensive research and it is a catchy name. For what it's worth, Kalir: good job."

On the matter of requesting to see any measures taken to avoid arcane pollution, Lord Ashford chuckles.

"You truly are an inquisitive Archmage, Camus! Rest assured that Runestone is overseeing such details. We are extremely grateful for your presence here and delivering these scrolls and we can only hope you relay your experiences to your superiors.

As for your query about Arcane Pollution, Runestone is looking into that matter with us... specifically those in the Tower of Magi. So relax! You are all perfectly safe here.""

The chit chat continues and you nearly fall over as you make your way towards the King, who furrows his brow and avoids contact with the nobles, looking out the window as you whisper that, should anything dire happen, you can teleport him out. It's a very easy thing for you to do.

King Marcus keeps looking out the window and you can notice he hasn't touched the food offered and slowly turns to look at you, glancing at the door leading to the other carts behind.

"Should there be a problem, Archmage Camus, I request you give priority to those who cannot protect themselves and get them to safety, but you heard Lord Ashford:

We are in the safest place possible...""

@The Party EXCEPT Ilvan: The Dragon's Flight gently reduces its speed as the sound of steam can be heard outside and the lights inside illuminate the room, allowing everyone to look out the window and see a crew of workers toiling with picks and sledge hammers as they stop, grin and wave at the noble passengers while a female voice can be heard all over the Dragon's Flight:

    Rashema's Marina Station

Lord Bardak smiles widely and waves at the workers as the Dragon's Flight continues on its path.

"As you can see, the SMC works hard every night to build state of the art stations that will draw in thousands of Halmathans every day, all day. Given the sound they make, we prefer if they work after sundown, so as to not disrupt the streets with the noise. We have cordoned the area, so any noise pollution should be at a minimum.""

The same happens with Glenndale and the Royal District, each with its cadre or workers waving at the elite, comfortably seated and aptly sauced by the expensive champagne.

And then the Dragon's Flight comes to a screeching halt, but no people to greet you outsiode the window as the lights outside flicker and the female voice can be heard:

    Cathedral Ward Station

Even in other carts, you can all hear the confused reactions from the crowd.

    Where is it?

    I see nothing....

    Why is it so dark???

What on Oerth is that godawful smell????

The King looks at Sir Randolph, who nods and is about to get up, when Lord Bardak and Ashford exchange glances and the SMC's founder flashes a grin in the dim light.

"Not to worry! I'll be right back...""

the man runs to the front of the cart and the door slides open for him before a few minutes go by and you can all feel the immense machine moving, but not straight as it was before...

It's changing course, altering its trajectory as Lord Bardak comes waltzing back in, puffing his chest and takes his seat.

"A minor snafu. Nothing more. We are now returning to the SMC headquarters. I hope you all enjoyed the Dragon's Flight. Like Lord ashford mentioned- we are completely safe here.""

And sure enough, after about thirty minutes, the immense machine comes to a stop, releasing a huge gout of steam and the doors slide open, with more of those beautiful ladies in uniform flashing a smile and handing each and everyone one of you a gift basket with a small SMC replica of the Dragon's Flight cast in bronze, to be used as a paper weight, an assortment smaller models seen at the lobby as plushies and a folded letter detailing the History of the SMC.

Lord Bardak does an overtly gallant bow and addresses the crowd.

"Thank you very much for your attendance! I hope you enjoyed this as much as we did. have a pleasant evening!""

Where you all go from here and with whom, that is up to you- you all have your own homes and labs to rest for the night.

@Ilvan: That stench of blood. Fresh...

The killer is close. Too close. Down the steps to Oedon's Tomb, hallowed ground.

But do you dare go down there alone? That is a rhetorical question, as you arm yourself appropriately. You are a member of the Helguard. You may have batteled without quarter out in the wilds, but here...

Here you have a little girl's plea. And only a monster would refuse such innocent and honest plea. No back up, just your training and wits... those will have to do as you begin the descent of the fog filled stairs towards Oedon's Tomb...

The first thing that catches your attention are the gravestones.

Old and strewn around the place, some are as tall as you, with a large crypt having the statue of an angel in prayer to a full moon as the fog churns silently around you and you can't help notice a few dead trees, towering over the gravestone and casting eerie shadows by the silver light of the Moon.

Then that smell of blood again... followed by the sound of steel on flesh as you keen your eyes and several feet away, you find a small pile of corpses, heavily mutilated. There was a fight here...and it ended bad for those poor souls, as their killer, a man with his back turned to you, holds a hand axe on his right hand and proceeds to messily chop off the head of one of his victims and stops as he sniffs the air and turns to face you:

As tall as you. No at least a foot taller. This man does not wear armor, unlike you. Unlike you, he has a blood stained hand axe on one hand and on the left is that... a blunderbuss?

You know the Guard uses ranged weapons, such as crossbows and bows, like you... but that's a firearm. The man is broad shouldered and his coat and hat are drenched in blood as his eyes, covered in an old grey bandage directs its gaze at you.

"...Beasts all over the shop... You'll be one of them, sooner or later..."

What the hell does he mean? Something about this man... something dangerous. Your son mentioned a "psychopath" on the loose. That he and his squad would track him down and arrest him...

With those bodies littered around him...gods, let Callum not be amongst them.

The man exhales a gout of cold breath and is not speaking anymore. More like a primal roar. He has ran out of victims and right now, you are the next one on his list.

Time to put that old Helguard training to use. Just another crazy that needs to be put down!

"Lord Bardak," Gregory calls after him before he can leave. "What was that? That did not seem like a minor incident, as you implied. You may as well include me; even if you refuse my assistance, I shall head to Cathedral Ward and start my own investigation into this matter."

His expression is stern. "What happened to the workers at that last station? There were workers at every other stop."

    @Gregory: Something's not right.

Once everyone has left the Dragon's Flight, you approach Lord Bardak and inquire about the incident during the tour. You never got to see Cathedral Ward. That machine merely turned around, but the founder of the SMC simply smiles as one of his pretty attendants walks up to you, flashes a smile and offers you a gift bag.

"Inquisitor du Vay, I can assure you that it was absolutely nothing someone of your status ought to be concerned with. As we mentioned during the tour, it is a maiden voyage. A few kinks that need to be patched here and there. Nothing major.

The Cathedral Ward station should be operational very soon. Given the amount of people I have working on all stations around the City, the man labor spreads thin. You have given me something to think about, though: I may have to hire more people come the morrow. Like we said before- it's safe. There is no reason to prod around where there is nothing to prod, Sir Gregory."

The man walks away from you and is escorted by his own personal security as the lady in uniform keeps flashing that smile and holds the gift bag to your face.

Cathedral Ward isn't too far away from Cuthbert's Cathedral. Given that the Pelorian Church is simply so massive, it's considered a small city within Halmathan and so, Cathedral Ward stands almost like a separate district on its own. Getting there should not be too difficult.

All you need is to cross St. Abaidas Bridge. A beautiful victorian monument on its own right. Once in Cathedral ward, you may be able to find out what exactly transpired... if you deem it so, that is.

Daun gives the king a curious look. "Hmm, I'll see what I can do to keep an eye on her. Though honestly, I would be surprised by anything out of the ordinary."

As the talk turns to dragons, Daun chimes in. "You'd be a fool not to believe that dragons are out there. Great creatures of the elements, magic, teeth and scales. Call one of them an overgrown reptile and I'll be the first to say 'I told you so' at your funeral. But, I suppose as long as you stick to your workshops and tinkering you needn't worry about the rest of the world."

As the Dragon's Flight pulls in to station after station, Daun watches the workers out the window. When mentioning they keep to working during the night, she says, "You say that as if only the citizens of Hamalthan might be the ones disturbed by the noise. What's quiet to us might be deafening to an owl or rabbit" I wonder how many nocturnal hunters in Glenndale went hungry because they couldn't hear prey over the noise of construction.

She turns away from the window as they arrive at the Glenndale station. "A word of advice: inform the residents of Glenndale of this station, before it's finished. I guarantee it will be met with opposition, but it will be infinitely better than if you surprise them with it."

When they arrive at the Cathedral Ward Station, Daun smells the same stench, wondering if she recognizes it, and peers out the window.

Even bereft of a heavy armor, he's closed the space between you and him very quickly as he skids on the grave soil and grips his axe with one hand and aims the blunderbuss at you from several feet, opening fire as the scattershot pings off a few gravestones, but still manages to strike you in the chest!

@Daun: King Marcus smiles at your words and strokes his beard in thought.

"I doubt it too, Miss Daun. There isn't much out of the ordinary, but still... it would bring me much comfort if you would make time."

Of course, when talk of dragons and their lack of existence coming into play, you give in much necessary input to Lord Ashford, who puffs on his cigarette and taps the ashes on a tray located on his seat.

"Of course... druids. The Ehlonnian Community in Glenndale still adheres to the Old Beliefs. Commendable that they would cling to them in the advent of Science looming over their metaphorical shoulder.

Everything has an explanation, Lady Tersetti- what our forefathers thought to be a nefarious bump in the night we have proven to be nothing but a mere figment. There are no such things as 'monsters'. Sorry to disappoint you- we are in the real world, not some fairy tale sung at a tavern. Although like I mentioned earlier, they make for fantastic tales and a compilation of lore meant to enthrall a younger audience. The nanny we hire for my children is quite taken to them. Perhaps you might reconsider my job proposal, hm?

As for...hhhehehee... "rabbits", is it? They don't pay taxes. As far as I'm concerned, they are freeloading off the land. They already get a huge park to frolic around and not be hunted. Or will you tell me now that they are people too? Oh that's right- Wildshape, is it? Yes... matters like that keep me up at night, I can assure you.

And yes, there may have been beasts lurking about in olden times. But we have the Glorious Helguard to thank for that, don't we?"

King Marcus remains silent, but you can tell the acerbic irony has not fallen on deaf ears.

When the Dragon's Flight stops at the unfinished Glenndale Station, you admonish the Plutocrat about warning the residents of the preserve regarding its construction, lest he finds any opposition.

"I cannot imagine anyone who would try that...abhorrent in its premise! Rest assured, Lady Tersetti- the druid community will be duly notified. You can tell your woodland friends to hide their claws and not ruffle their feathers just yet.""

However, once the Dragon's Flight arrives at Cathedral Ward Station and everything goes dark, you try to see anything outside. But it's dark, so no point in trying to keen your eyes. The sounds of the other passengers makes it impossible to hear anything else, but the smell of sewage is very strong, as Lord Bardak returns and the machine churns back to life as you listen to their excuse, but you have a feeling it isn't the whole deal.

Ever ready to pounce and tear these nobles apart with claw and fang like a mystic savage, you instead question whether they are mocking the King's intelligence.

"His intelligence would never be insulted, Lady Tersetti. I hope you enjoyed the ride....""

Archmage Camus just give a nod to the king and resume his drinking.

The train voyage was going alright, if you disconsider theexchange of insult and provacations for many of those seated in the cart. Sure. There is more than what meet the eye in this whole show as so far the nobles only dodged and gave vague answers to all questions, riasing more questions than answers per se.

However it wasnt in his position to demand anything from them: he was here to deliver the scrolls and to get a good idea of what was going on. And so he watched and kept watch he saw to himself.

Once the train return to its main station, Camus give it noble a bow and a handshake.
"Indeed a marvelous creation. If it do what it was planned to who knows how much jobs, profit and benefits it will grant to ourt beloved City. Lord Baldak", he says and look to him, "Which day is better for you to schedule a meeting? I'm still have some questions but I fear it's already too late and I had already too much champagne to make it tonight".

To both nobles he give another bow, "Have a pleasent night, my lords".

Walking away, he walk to the king and smile.
"Anything I might be useful for you, your Majesty? If not, I'll take my leave and go to the Golden Mare: my cousin is sick so I better go and take a look on her", he says and give each of the others a silent goodbye and get ready to take flight back to the Golden Mare but change his mind and decide to hail a carriage.

"No flight after drinking", he thinks to himself and wonder how well are Kaylin and Thing.

Kalir turns to ignoring the fool and focuses back on being the king's personal bodyguard. The hosts' plans were not as they expected. Who knew what else wasn't going to plan.

Exiting the Dragon Flight he accepts a gift bag and slips it into his magical pack. He figures the king would want to take his leave quickly so the raptoran visually plans out the route to lead the king through once the signal is given. The sooner the better.

This slipshod, sliding creature doesn't seem so different than a wild beast, but the impression is broken when the man's roars are interrupted with the blunderbuss' report.

And then he's hit- Ilvan reacts to this in a fairly predictable way, by loosing a flurry of arrows at the madman before he can close the distance. Better to start this fight strong.

@Camus: You had heard that Daun the Druid liked to stir up trouble.

But how wise is it to bring all these accusations, thinly veiled in curtsy against Lord Ashford? He may not be the King, but the Ashford Family is immensely powerful. Their reach not only in the political scene, but also in matters arcane is well known.

Although you have yet to meet her, stories around Runestone abound regarding the Ashford Scion. Lord Ashford's daughter and a master Mage in her own right. So talented is this lady supposed to be, that were she not away at the present time, chances are you and Griswold would have lost any chance of getting the position as a Grand Mage in the Tower of Magi.

Of course, tales are wont to be exaggerated. When it comes to the arcane community, everybody likes boasting of their superior skills until duels are brought up and then either the alleged Master Caster disappears from view, or is humiliated in front of the entire community.

The same cannot be said about Dragons, though. Although no such creatures have been seen in the City in ages. Way before you were even born, it is undeniable that such powerful race has influenced Magic throughout history. After all, sorcerers claim with utmost pride to be descendants of such creatures. An iffy claim. Hard to verify, but their latent arcane power, which comes forth naturally, may lead some credence to that statement.

However, you aren't here to ping pong into petty arguments. Just to observe and deliver. Both of which have been done. Runestone will get their report and before bowing and leaving the SMC headquarters, you let Bardak know about those questions you have in mind. The complex kind.

"That's the plan, Archmage Camus. Like Lord Ashford mentioned, the Dragon's Flight is the beginning of a New Era of Enlightenment for Halmathan. What a great time to be alive, to see the Dawn of Industry. And to have its legacy felt for generations to come.

As for your questions... I will have someone contact you when my schedule opens, Archmage. I am drowning in work right now. This City never sleeps, you know? Thank you for coming and send my regards to Grand Master Griswold. Don't forget your gift bag."

The many nobles gathered begin to disperse, not before exchanging pleasantries amongst each other and all of them bowing to King Marcus, who seems extremely exhausted as he does his best to keep his smile on as the last one bids good bye and Lord Brunhausser sighs deeply.

"I hate to sound like a child... but can we go now?""

Upon asking King Marcus if he needed anything, the King of the People shakes your hand, a tight grip and smiles.

"Unless you have a spell in your book to get rid of a killer headache, that will do for now. A pleasure meeting you, Archmage Camus. Feel free to visit the Royal Palace some time. I haven't forgotten about those secrets you mentioned. Might have to pry them open some day, heh. Have a good night."

Well, that's it. Thing should be keeping watch of Kaylin back at The Mare. You could fly, but truth be told, you've had one flute too many. And if there is one thing you've learned is that drinking and casting make for a terrible mix.

There was this account of a mage who had one too many Piña Coladas and Deathweed...

    He thought himself an arrow
and flew straight into one of the Clock Towers in Cathedral Ward. Took a whole day for a crew of rescue workers to get him down.

    @Kalir: Finally it's over!

These nobles are so full of themselves. One has to wonder how well would Lord Ashford fare out in the wilds, away from the comfort of this City. Given his frame and the way he talks so much stupidity, a single lowly goblin could leave him like a stuck pig out in the marshes to pickle up for dinner.

You pocket the Gift Bag and watch King Marcus say good bye to everyone before he calls you by your side.

"You managed that really well, Kalir. Congratulations. I would've left a dent where their faces one stood. I promise I won't put you in that situation ever again. However...""

King Marcus looks at Daun and then back at you.

"Why don't you escort Glenndale's Finest back to her home? I have guards waiting outside on horseback and most importantly:

I have a paladin with me. I'll be safe, but I worry for her. Thank you, Kalir. And if you want, go get some drinks at The Mare afterwards. I will have the front desk know you are coming. It's my personal tab, so go crazy. You can take the day off tomorrow.""

    @Ilven: That hurt...

But not as much as this madman is about to be punished for daring to leave a few holes on your armor. As a member of the Helguard, your talents with a bow were unmatched and although you are an old legend, you are still a Legend.

Standing your ground despite being shot and smelling the gun powder in the air, you close one eye and aim your trusty bow at this maniac. Who knows what he is, but despite every single arrow striking him and spilling his blood on the Hallowed Ground of Oedon's Tomb...

He doesn't even feel fazed by it! This killer seems to relish the salvo as he snaps one of the arrows on his chest and lowers his body, gripping his hand axe as a wicked grin draws upon his face.

    Round 2

Any other person that took such direct hits would be dead by now... not him, as the man grits his teeth and lowers his axe on the ground, trailing sparks as he comes straight at you, knocking a few gravestones aside with his great strength and then... punishment!

This son of a bitch is lethal up close! That axe of his cuts deep. Enough for the wounds not to close immediately as the ground you stand on spills with elven blood.

It's the third slash, however, that causes the axe to glow with the blood of his previous victims as he nearly slices your body in two. That last slash is deadly- too deadly to ignore!

Daun bites back words as Ashford laughs at the plights of rabbits, and more importantly any living things that aren't citizens. Profit margins, ownership, and exploitation of resources, that seemed to be all he cared about. Most of the night she disliked the lord and despised his construction. But thanks to his recent comments, she was starting to really hate him.

She was quiet for the rest of the ride, eventually grabbing the small trinkets they were handing out.

She curtsys again when people talk about heading their separate ways. "Thank you for the invitation your Grace. This whole night was... well, it is what it is. I hope to see you around again, and I will certainly look after Amelia's well-being."

Turning to the raptoran she says, "If you're duties with the King are done, would you like to accompany me to the Mare? I could use a drink and friend now, I think."
