Beats the 'red is blood' thought I'd have gone with, Maximo thinks to himself. To Lyn, he turns and says, "Sounds good to me!"

You start down the warmer colored passageway. It's moderately curved, stopping you from seeing too far in front of you, but the hall itself seems normal. Just as you reach a longer straight section that has doors on either side, you hear a banging sound. It echoes down the hall, loud and thunderous.

Buster pauses, tensing when he hears the loud banging. He lifts the lantern higher, trying to illuminate the doors further down the hall, and determine if the banging is coming from them or something yet further in.

Lyn will also peer forward as best she's able.

The noise, while not perfectly level, seems to be staying at the same volume. It's likely stationary.

"Something unmoving?" Buster asks, keeping his voice low. "Perhaps the forge is this way?"

[Illven]

Worth a shot. Lyndis agrees.

The noise continues. It's not perfectly even, but it is mostly consistent.

You creep forward, stealthy as you can be. But, just as it's growing loud enough to the point where you think it might be around the corner-it stops. Dead silence.

Lyn signals for her teammates to stop.

Sword in hand, Max sidles up to Lyn. If she makes eye contact, he gives the "raised eyebrow with shrug" that indicates, "Okay, now what?"

Lyn shrugs before chanting a few words in arcane.

Casting minor illusion of a goblet falling a couple feet.

The ritual casting of alarm ends, has it been ten minutes.

As a goblet appears and falls soundlessly at the corner.

Buster halts at Lyn's signal, but slowly creeps forward when she creates the illusion, looking around for any signs of change in the area, or any other creatures other than themselves.

As the goblet appears, you hear a clank! in the room ahead.

It stops after the first one, though.

Damn, hope it'd take the bait. Lyndis remarked quietly.

Maximo grimaces as whatever is in the next room doesn't fall for Lyn's ruse. "Have we got another plan, or is 'Get him' as good as we're likely to get?"

"Perhaps it's something we can negotiate with, then?" Buster posits quietly. Considering the thing seems to be making noise like it's using a forge, there's a good chance that it's some form of sentient, but since none of them have actually seen what's making the noise yet, it's perhaps a bit early to try and draw up a strategy.

"Sitting around and not knowing what it even is ain't gonna get us far..." Garret takes a deep breath and mumbles a small prayer to the spirits to keep him from harm as he attempts to sneak to the corner and take a quick peek at what might be there.

As Garret peaks his head around the corner, he barely has time to react as something metallic comes flying for his face.

Whatever it is pulls Garret down to the ground and brutalizes the body.

Oh hey, it's a gnarljack. Lyn comments. They were first made like 4000ish years ago, by a cabal of druids in skirmishes.... Oh... Oh right. Um.

Lyndis mutters a few arcane words, attempting to incinerate the creature after bursting from hiding.

Buster unleashes another golden bolt of energy at the creature when it pulls Garret to the ground, and rushes forwards, slamming two fast punches at the monster, hoping to distract it long enogh that either he or Max can pull Garret to safety.
