Default Do Psions get all discipline powers?

    Like a Cleric does...

Do I automatically know my discipline powers, or do I need to learn them like any other power.

A text/SRD citation would be appreciated as well.

    :)

However, choosing a discipline also means that the psion cannot learn powers that are restricted to other disciplines. He can’t even use such powers by employing psionic items.

    Powers Known
A psion begins play knowing three psion powers of your choice. Each time he achieves a new level, he unlocks the knowledge of new powers.

Choose the powers known from the psion power list, or from the list of powers of your chosen discipline. You cannot choose powers from restricted discipline lists other than your own discipline list. You can choose powers from disciplines other than your own if they are not on a restricted discipline list. (Exception: The feats Expanded Knowledge and Epic Expanded Knowledge do allow a psion to learn powers from the lists of other disciplines or even other classes.) A psion can manifest any power that has a power point cost equal to or lower than his manifester level.
You gain access to your chosen discipline powers to choose as powers known, but you don't get them automatically, else the wording would be different, and the number of powers known would as well (such as 1+1 or 2+1 instead of 2 at lower levels).

"Choose the powers known from the psion power list, or from the list of powers of your chosen discipline."

    You have to learn them

Kinda like how getting those extra class skills still requires you to buy ranks in them with your skill points if you actually want ranks in those skills.

I guess this means that one could avoid those extra powers known and class skills known and be a generic psion.o

Unless I am forgetting something, there is no such thing as a generic psion. At least as far as the Expanded Psionics Handbook is concerned. All psions must specialize in a discipline.

Yes, but nothing compels you to ever select or use any powers from your 'specialty' or even put points in the extra class skill associated with your discipline, unlike a specialist wizard who is required to learn spells from their specialty school and has spell slots that can only be used for that school. You'd be leaving a lot of neat options on the table, because IMO every psion discipline has at least one must-pick power.. but you could do it; only select common list powers and never reveal what variety of psion you supposedly are.

Alternatively use expanded knowledge five times and have one power known from each of the six lists.
