The comparison I heard: money is like bathrooms. A nice bathroom won't make a crappy house great. And you don't really enjoy having a ton of extra bathrooms. But having enough decent bathrooms is very important to it being a nice house.

That seems very apt (and it's strange that I haven't heard it before), I've seen lots of pop-psych articles that amount to a headline of "More Income Doesn't Bring Happiness" which cite a diminishing amount of happiness with extra income, but invariably that amount of income is more than most people have!

I was reading a pop psyche article where a study found people regardless of factors tended to self-describe their happiness at 7/10. Those who reported lower or higher amounts reported a life event within 3 days, and further reporting showed their happiness returnes to 7/10 within the week.

What remained the same was a desire to get to 10/10 and stay there, even though you adjust expectations to where you are. So most people are about as happy and about as discontent with their happiness regardless of success.

For me the point is that choice makes you happy, and without money you can't make many choices (which has a lot to do with why my current job frustrates me, they seem to go out of their way to stop anybody being able to survive on their salary, let alone make choices).

I'm back at work ('cause taking a sick day two days in a row doesn't look good), and while it still hurts when I cough I haven't sneezed (thankfully) since Saturday, which is when my side hurt the most, and I can stifle the coughs a bit which lessens the pain.

Not very productive though, so far I "fixed" one faucet that I had a service order for, but I actually already had fixed it on Friday when I noticed that someone ripped off the handles.

Trying to lay low and get away with avoiding anything strenuous.

Side rant: I ****ing hate that part of work culture.

Working as a carpenter's assistant, I got sick enough that it took me multiple tries to move the covers off to get out of bed. However, I still went back to work after 1 day recovery because this was on a Thursday, and the story that goes around is that you wanted a 4 day weekend, since you didn't look that sick on Monday (that's what the 4 days of rest was for, you berk.)

So this past week, my baby's been at his grandparents in Louisiana, so we decided to use that time to redo the walls in his bathroom. The wallpaper was peeling, and it didn't look TOO bad to remove it from the YouTube videos I saw.

Unfortunately, the prior owners painted over the wallpaper. So several days of annoying work trying to fix that, and I now hate them for it. Then sanding, cleaning, and painting. And, we figured at the start, as long as we're doing this we may as well replace the toilet like we've wanted to since we got the house. And may as well go ahead and replace the really dated towel handles and toilet paper holder, outlet covers, lightswitch covers, and make it all look nice and new.

Long story short, I still hate plumbing, I now hate drywall, wallpaper, painted over wallpaper, the previous owners, and plumbing. My goal in life is to make enough money that I can hire people to do that for me, and appreciate the hell out of them.

Thanks, but that probably wouldn't help with when both knees suddenly snap shut without warning, and stay closed for a few seconds.

I'll probably be fine; it took over a week off my meds before that happened last time, and I'm probably only going to miss a few days here.
