Reminds me of the time I discovered that "tsp" means teaspoon, not tablespoon. I ate some very salty soup.

I still have to inform people that a dessert spoon is not a tablespoon. Which explains some of the cakes I've had to stomach.

I still wouldn't call that a problem... Anyway, I choose to believe the problem was that it wasn't garlicky enough.

No, you just put too little of every other ingredient. Garlic is never too little, nor is it too much. It is precisely the amount meant.

When a recipe calls for X cloves of garlic, it really means a head. They're just trying to play it safe for legal reasons.

Also, today I discovered the site mmmgarlic.com. Some business apparently stole garlic.com. Those jerks.

I've always loved garlic, especially roasted. unfortunately, as I've gotten older it has stopped loving me. If I eat more than a head, I'm banished to the guest room for 24 hours.

Will unfortunately, for the fourth week in a row I'm going to have a lonely weekend due to all my friends being busy, tired, or out of the city. Even worse I'm struggling to find anywhere in London where I can meet people without having to deal with sensory overload.

Anybody got suggestions for not going crazy? Or failing that, where I might be able to meet people without NOISE!!!! or overstepping social boundaries.

Fly to Alabama and help me take down the wallpaper that the previous owners painted over, making it a pain and a half to remove. I'll get you a Tinder date in no time as a bonus!

If you're going to travel to Birmingham anyway, come to the much closer one and enjoy our miles of tranquil nature walks and surprisingly interesting specialist museums (musea?).

Actually, joking aside, that's not a bad idea. The museum part, not the Birmingham part (although we are only 85 minutes away by train). London's great for museums, galleries, etc., many of which actively enforce quietness and are magnets for people with nothing better to do interested in meeting new people. Best part: by visiting an obscure museum related to your interests, you practically guarantee that anyone you meet has at least one thing in common with you.

Why do people keep claiming they can do that?

(Seriously, while I've had issues with online dating I've had multiple friend claim they could get me a Tinder date in under 24 hours with, in their words, 'my profile picture and without being too verbal'. Either I'm doing something wrong or I have a lot of insane friends.)

But ouch, painted over wallpaper. It's not the worst decorating decision I've seen ("let's install the shelving before the floor!"), but it's certainly up there.

I would, but unfortunately my Brummie friend decided to rather sensibly move back from the North

I would, except either: I've been to most recently*, they're not what I'm into, or I have to run the risk that my friend who sits stewarding is working there

In all seriousness, if I don't just end up moping it's probably what I'll do. The only danger is that, with the exception of Scott two museums I'll have to pass through Central, and that takes me uncomfortably close to the money black holes (a.k.a. Nerd Shops).

    * Although there are a couple of museums and galleries where that doesn't matter. There's just something enticing about Georgian portraits...

Gah! My house's previous owner didn't bother to move the refrigerator when they painted the kitchen, among other painting sins (there is also painted-over wallpaper on one wall, but at least they got the whole wall with it). I regret not re-painting all of the walls before moving in, but I didn't realize how flaky they'd been on the paint job until I already had most of my stuff here. (They also had PVC pipe, nails, and duct tape instead of a curtain rod in the master bedroom. It's been an adventure, and I often refer to the previous owner as "duct tape woman" as I find new things.)

OK, to be fair here, the prior owners here kept the place in otherwise wonderful condition (as well as building a second, detached garage with large second floor, and kept it all unfinished so it didnt add nearly as much to the price as it could have, and as it will whenever we sell. Buy a house, get a bonus income stream from the detached apartment! That's a steal and a half right there), it's only the painting over wallpaper that gets me. Besides, at least it gave us a chance to upgrade the toilets while we were at it. These new ones are FANTASTIC.

Ooh, I'm in the market for new toilets as well. What did you end up going with?

(I'm in the somewhat awkward situation of currently having a low-end wimpy low-flow toilet in my main bathroom and an older sewer line that isn't sloped very aggressively and expects more water than it gets in these modern times. End result is that I run the bathtub in that bathroom once every few days Just In Case after some...incidents. I'm hoping a more vigorous low flow toilet will resolve the issue. It's mostly a problem in the summer when I don't otherwise use that bathtub since I mostly shower on my way into and out of the pool during pool season and the other bathroom is closer to the pool.)

There are some good museums out in the regions. I'm particularly fond of Hendon's RAF museum, but if you're not an aeroplane person there's the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, the Rugby Museum at Twickenham Stadium, the Upminster Tithe Barn and countless museums of local history in every former village London ever ate. As ever, Wikipedia has a list.

Oh sure, in fact I live about an hour's walk from a very nice museum.

But what's going to happen is that nobody's going to even try talking to me, I'll be to awkward to try to talk to somebody, and somebody will be getting to drag their screaming kids around it.

My ex punted out that I should try joining a D&D group, but I'm not sure if I'm up to paying money to play.

A trade show is a convention for businesses instead of anime. I work at a law firm.
