    biggrin Cleric Domain: Freedom

    Hello GITP forums. Another homebrew PEACH. This time its for a "Freedom Domain" for the cleric.

    Thematically, this represents Freedom as a viable path towards society in a way that trickery's subversion of tyranny and tempest's wrath of nature vs civilization doesn't. Its also crammed with what I hope are fairly evocative american revolution era nods, though fear it drifts into cheesy USA jingoism.

    Mechanically I wanted this domain to emphasis the power of choice as an aid to allies, and so crammed it with as many options as I could think of. The result is a character option that greatly improves party mobility and resistance to mental/ physical entanglements.

    Freedom Domain
    The freedom domain represents the demonstrable truth that societies function best when its members are at liberty to pursue their own happiness.
    Clerics of freedom seek to demonstrate this truth and, in so doing, guide folk to live in manner they see fit. Followers of freedom can govern themselves without formal hierarchies through application of common sense and mutually agreed upon contracts between individuals. As long as members keep to their word and respect the property and freedom of others they can expect to pursuit whatever happiness their efforts, talents, and good fortune allow.
    The role of the society, then, is not to control individuals but to keep tabs on the trustworthiness of its members and to expel members when they’re actions show they aren’t a good fit for that society.
    In this way folk can grow as they wish while still maintaining the benefits of free association.

    Freedom Domain Features

    Bonus Proficiency
    Starting at 1st level you gain proficiency in heavy armor.

    Sweet Liberty
    Your novice understanding of what free society means allows you to apply certain spell effects more liberally then other casters.

    Starting at 1st level when you cast protection from evil and good the target cannot be charmed, frightened or possessed and gains advantage on saving throws regardless of the type of creature inducing the effect.

    Similarly, when you cast dispel evil and good, you can use the Break Enchantment action regardless of the type of creature that induced the effect.

    Laisse Faire
    Starting at 1st level, you combine divine power and the desire for freedom to aid an ally, providing them with a number actions.

    If you cast a spell with a spell slot of 1st level or higher and target an ally with the spell you can allow that ally an additional option, using their reaction immediately after the spell to do one of the following;

    -Move 10 feet without taking opportunity attacks.
    -Make an attempt to escape from a grapple or end a restrain effect.
    -Gain temporary hit points equal to their proficiency + spell level.

    If the spell targets more than one ally, you choose one ally to apply this bonus.

    Channel Divinity: Freedom’s Ring
    At 2nd level your understanding of freedom has earned you the ability to free yourself and nearby allies of distraction, enabling them to jump into the fray intuitively.

    When you roll for initiative you can expend a use of channel divinity. When you do so, you and all allies within 30 feet that can hear you gain advantage on initiative and can either;

    -Gain immunity to surprise for the first round.
    -Can use the dash or disengage action as a bonus action on next turn.

    Manifest Destiny
    When you reach 6th level, your appreciation for liberty drives a battle fervor that inspires allies to define their destiny.

    The first time you hit a creature with a weapon attack on your turn can choose an ally within 30 feet. On their next turn that ally can either;

    -Use dash, disengage or dodge action as a bonus action.
    -Gain advantage against the creature you hit as a bonus action.

    You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.

    Divine Strike
    At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with divine energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 psychic damage to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.

    Self Evident Truths
    Starting at 17th level, you have come to understand that liberty is only as good as the clarity of the mind which possesses it.

    When a creature within 30 feet of you fails a charisma, wisdom or intelligence save or fails to escape from a grapple or restrain effect you can use your reaction to grant that creature another save or check to end that effect. The new save or check is made with a bonus equal to the creatures proficiency modifier.

    Bonus Spells

    1st Level
    Heroism, Protection from Evil/ Good
    3rd Level
    Misty Step, Remove Curse
    5th Level
    Dispel Evil & Good, Freedom of Movement
    7th Level
    Dimension Door, True Seeing
    9th Level
    Mind Blank, True Resurrection

    My DM just approved it. One of them suggested random damage, and another suggested the choice between heavy armor and martial weapons - any thoughts on that?

    Had my first run w/ this. The character is a level 2 cleric, level 5 fighter, and I gotta say the alpha strike potential of that channel divinity is strong as.

    It seems to keep up and will continue to be beneficial as the game goes on.
