Default Hack and Slash Decathalon: Team GADE

The four of you walk to the base of the cliff, where you had been directed for the decathlon. A small metal door is your only way forward. As you enter the room, you notice it was once featureless stone, but it now shows the scars of battle. Numerous gouges and gashes run along the walls, and floor is covered in scorch marks. On the far side of the room is a pack of wolves, growling and bristling for battle.

You hear a booming voice, "Welcome to the Decathlon!", as the wolves start to charge.

    Spoiler: OOC
    Show
    Welcome to the Decathlon!

Cast any buff spells or other things you would like, and then enter the room and roll initiative. Pick a color (not purple) and each of your players can start anywhere in rows H or I.

    Your map is here.

    Wolves init: (1d20)[8]+2 = 10

As you prepare, the wolves pounce. Their sudden movement causes you to miss your readied attacks. All members of the party takes serious hits, Gretro in particular getting some nasty cuts.

Wolf B attack on Gretro - (1d20+4)[24] or (1d20+4)[23] for (2d4+2)[7] damage - Hit and Crit! That's another 4 damage (rolled in the OOC).

    Wolf C attack on Anon - (1d20+4)[14] or (1d20+4)[10] for (2d4+2)[7] damage - Miss
    Wolf D attack on Anon - (1d20+4)[20] or (1d20+4)[19] for (2d4+2)[5] damage - Hit

    Wolf E attack on Elcan - (1d20+4)[11] or (1d20+4)[22] for (2d4+2)[6] damage - Hit
    Wolf F attack on Elcan - (1d20+4)[22] or (1d20+4)[8] for (2d4+2)[5] damage - Hit

    Wolf G attack on Debian - (1d20+4)[9] or (1d20+4)[22] for (2d4+2)[9] damage - Hit
    Wolf H attack on Debian - (1d20+4)[5] or (1d20+4)[12] for (2d4+2)[8] damage - Miss

    Your readied attacks:
Gretro on Wolf C: (1d20+5)[7] for (1d8+3)[10]+(1d6)[1] damage
Elcan on Wolf E: (1d20+5)[7] for (1d6+3)[8] damage

An'on casts Sleep, centered on the point between B4 and C5, which reaches 6 of the 8 wolves, affecting them from left to right, then moves around to H1 and flank wolf A.

Debian will cast a 2nd level sleep centered on the same point to get at the rest of the awake wolves. Bonus action give Elcan a bit of inspiration with a dull humming.

    Top Of The Round

Gretro attacks wolf A with his rapier.

Elcan will move around to H8 and attack Wolf H, flanking with Debian. Inspiration wouldn't help I don't think so not using it

    Spoiler: Rolls

Nearly all of the wolves fall asleep. Gretro eviscerates the leftmost wolf, while Elcan once again swings wide. The two remaining wolves attack their attacker.

    Spoiler: OOC

A pitiful miss against Debian later, An'on fires a ray of frost at H and moves to H4.

Debian will move around H in case it doesn't die to An'on's ray, and casts a cure wounds at Elcan.

    Top Of The Round

If H is dead, he will move to E5 and stand next to wolf E and attack. If H is not dead, he will move up and attack them instead.

Elcan, upon getting up, casts a cure wounds on himself and moves to E6 to stand next to Wolf F.

    Spoiler: Rolls
    Show
ray of frost (shouted Dan Harmon style): (1d20+5)[16] (1d8)[3]
    Cure wounds: (1d8+3)[4]
If H is not dead: (1d20+5)[21] (1d8+3)[7] plus (1d6)[6] against H. If they're dead, this damage goes to E.
    Cure Wounds: (1d8+3)[9]

H and E die, 13 points restored to Elcan.

I have faith you can annihilate the remaining four wolves in the 7 (8?) rounds that they'll sleep. So congratulations! You're one-third of the way through the first challenge. Heal up, and take a short rest if you would like.

EDIT: Also, take a position anywhere in the room, and roll initiative when you're ready.

Same position as I started last encounter. Also Elcan stays as a Bear.

Moving to G6, attacking twice, and moving back. He's a swashbuckler, so he can step back without risking an AoO, and gets sneak attack for attacking alone.

    Rolls:
    Shortsword 1: (1d20+5)[13] for (1d6+3)[9] damage
    Shortsword 2: (1d20+5)[21] for (1d6)[6] damage
Sneak Attack if either hits: (2d6)[6]

The rogue pulls out a pair of wickedly curved shortswords, and steps forward. He slashes twice at Debian before nimbly stepping back to his original position.

An'on moves to H3 and casts burning hands, hitting all of them. DC 13 Dex saves for all.

Elcan moves around the back to I7 so as to not get opportunity attacks from R and bites/claws the wizard.

Debian will move up and attack R with his rapier.

Gretro will move to G6 and use his reach to attack the Wizard.

    Spoiler: Rolls/OOC
    Show
DC 13 Dex saves to halve (3d6)[9]

    Bear Bite: (1d20+5)[22] (1d8+4)[6]
    Bear Claw: (1d20+5)[11] (2d6+4)[14]

    Debian's Rapier attack: (1d20+2)[5](1d8+2)[10]

    Gretro Rapier attack: (1d20+5)[23] (1d8+3)[9] plus (1d6)[6]

Presumably 21 damage to the wizard, 4-9 damage for Burning Hands to each

    Fighter: (1d20+1)[6]

Wizard casts shield in reaction to the first hit. The bear bite and Gretro's rapier still hit.

Wizard then casts a second level Sleep, centered on C5, hitting Debian and Gretro.

Fighter casts Booming Blade on Anon.

Bard casts Dissonant Whispers on Anon.

    Top of the Round

Rogue slashes at Debian, then Gretro.

    Spoiler: OOC

Bard Dissonant Whispers: Take (3d6)[7] psychic damage and spend reaction moving your speed away from the bard. DC 13 Wis save for half damage, and not running.

Fighter Booming Blade AoO if Anon fails the save: (1d20+5)[10] for (2d6+3)[12] + (1d8)[4]

EDIT: Completely forgot to do rogue rolls. Will do that in another post.

An'on throws a firebolt at the wizard, ignoring the fighter in front of him.

Elcan will move past the wizard to H6 and begin wailing on the Rogue.

Debian is just there. Asleep and not dying.

Gretro will similarly attack the Rogue

The wizard steps forward to H7 and retaliates against Anon with a Magic Missile.

The fighter casts Booming Blade on Anon.

The bard casts Tasha's Hideous Laughter on Bear-Elcan.

    Top of the Round

The rogue slashes at Gretro twice, using the wizard as a distraction.

    Spoiler: OOC
    Show
Wizard 1st level magic missile against Anon: (3d4+3)[11]

Fighter booming blade against Anon: (1d20+5)[15] for (2d6+3)[14] and (1d8)[4] electric if Anon moves.

Bard hideous laughter against Elcan: DC 13 Wis save or fall prone and be incapacitated for a minute or until the bard loses concentration, whichever happens first. Repeat the save at the end of each turn, and each time you take damage. If the save is triggered by damage, you have advantage.

    Rogue attacks against Gretro:
    Shortsword 1: (1d20+5)[7] for (1d6+3)[6] damage
    Shortsword 2: (1d20+5)[19] for (1d6)[6] damage
Sneak attack if either hit: (2d6)[5]

    Last Turn:

Debian attacked the Rogue and used Healing Word on An'on.

    Bottom of this turn

Debian attacks the Rogue and uses Healing Word on Gretro.

    Gretro attacks the Wizard

    Top of the round

An'on will cast Burning Hands again, after moving to G3 so as to not hit so many of his allies.

Elcan will bite the Rogue, then claw the Bard.

    Spoiler: Rolls
    Show
    Debian's attack: (1d20+4)[23] (1d8+2)[8]
    Healing Word: (1d4+3)[7]

    Debian's attack: (1d20+4)[11] (1d8+2)[3]

    Elcan's Bite on R: (1d20+5)[8] (1d8+4)[12]
    Elcan's Claw on B: (1d20+5)[9] (2d6+4)[7]

Result: 8 damage to the rogue last turn, and 8 or 16 damage to all enemies besides wizard

EDIT: Wizard doesn't need a save, right?

The wizard fires off a second level magic missile, hoping to drop Anon for good.

The fighter attacks Debian with a booming blade.

The bard targets a second level sleep on C6, hitting Debian and Gretro.

The rogue does nothing, because he is extra crispy at this point.
