Blender... Uh, WHAT?
So, I was checking out This list on Blender... And well, they had some issues with that list. I mean, some things on there are judgement calls, really (Like say, Oingo Boingo, which is a rather... distinct taste.)
But one thing just baffled me: Kansas. Kansas was in the bottom 5. Kansas, the people that did Carry On My Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind, came in below Vanilla Ice. Rubbing elbows with ICP.
It seems that they do have quite the bias against Prog Rock, which might be some of it, but really, REALLY guys? Putting Kansas in the bottom 5? I can see saying they're overrated, but I can not think of ANY circumstance where we can calmly declare Vanilla Ice better than Kansas.
(Well, maybe in Bizarro world.)

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
There is somewhere on the internet where your favorite band isn't used as a punchline.
That said, he disrespects the Elfman and can go to hell.Last edited by Rutskarn; 2009-12-06 at 02:53 AM.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
Depending on how one reads your statement, it's either quite the truism about the internet (no matter what band you like, it has detractors. For sure.)
Or an understandable misassumption about my tastes in music. Sure, I like Kansas decently, but when it comes to the prog-rock scene, I'm a Yes man all the way, with Rush in a notable second. And if we get into other varieties, well, Kansas doesn't get much representation at all in my list. (Of course, they did say Point of No Return was their worst album, which is kinda... baffling. That's their one album I actually thought was pretty good.)
But yeah, I'm guessing a few entries on there were just shots at trolling people. I mean, sure the Doors have some screwed up lyrics, but they were massively influential to a lot of musicians, and weren't really terrible.
If that's the case, I suppose that I succumb to their trolling, huh?

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
That one, and not even the internet so much as music culture. Somewhere, there is a subgroup that thinks that your favorite band (whatever it is) is enough of a joke on its own.
EDIT: Just re-read my original post. There was actually an error there, which created the confusion.
I said "nowhere" instead of "somewhere". So, yeah, major difference.Last edited by Rutskarn; 2009-12-06 at 02:54 AM.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
I doubt it was trolling...that person really seemed to think so.. I didn't look past it. So its hard to gauge what was worse then the Doors. But if bloody Yanni wasn't on that list...

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
I'm sorry this list is quite teirrble in terms of mentioning truly awful bands. No brokeNCYDE, no Hoobastank, no My Chemical Romance.... and he mentions both Primus & Oingo Boingo as top 50 worst bands?! He can go [Censored By The Inquisition] himself with a [Censored By The Inquisition] while [Censored By The Inquisition] with a horse, a bottle of mayonnaise and three slinkies. Then he can [Censored By The Inquisition] until his [Censored By The Inquisition] falls off.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
the fact that you could go to people on the street and they would recognize those bands is proof enough they aren't the worst. bad bands get no attention.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
I maintain that the first Tin Machine album was about 5 years ahead of its time, and contains a lot of good tracks. Granted, Tin Machine II is rather dry and Oy Vey, Baby is fairly awful, but this list is far off. The Doors are awesome, Rick Wakeman's pretty good, Kansas is cool, Malmsteen is epic if you like that sort of thing. ICP is, in fact, horrible as hell, but mostly this list (which I've seen before and rolled my eyes at) is pretty much a "I hate these bands" list.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
Wow, taking the "Top X" lists seriously is NOT a good idea. They are everywhere, they litter the earth, people kill themselves over them for no good reason whatsoever. It's just a listing of 50 bad opinions, and making a topic over them isn't really worth it.
It's like a cycle, people keep making more and more stupid Top 10 lists, and when they find they have no ideas anymore, they retract back to things like "Top 10 Places to Masturbate in Public" and continue on with their old stuff.
Don't ever bother with those lists, save yourself some time. All they lead to is rage because "You left out this" or "You didn't put that".
Unless you're watching Nostalgia Critic, there's really no purpose to them whatsoever.
I give this article a "Doctor Foreman on crack" stamp.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
+1
to begin with, such an article is incredibly pretentious.
And the author seems to also have no sense, clue or taste.
The author fails on multiple counts:
1. The very concept.
2. Some of them are actually good.
3. Even of those on the list I don't personally, there is a good chunk that is often considered very good by many people. (just because I don't like something doesn't mean it sucks).I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
Answer:
Not in the USA. Even something as tame as having sex in a car with your wife, while the windows are blocked, is considered a sexual offense. As in, you become a registered sex offender for life for doing something like that (real case).
Also, peeing on a tree (if human), if caught (I am not sure if you have to be within a few miles of a school zone or not, I forgot) can also result in becoming a registered sex offender.
Actually, in texas they arrested a store clerk in a porn shop because the store carried dildos (illegal in texas) and he was convicted of selling lewd devices and is now a registered sex offender.
so... did you put censored by the inquisition yourself, or is there some feature in the board that replaces certain words with that?Last edited by taltamir; 2009-12-08 at 02:27 PM.

...Unfortunately, the Inquisition doesn't want to let us mere mortals know what are it's three methods.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
I didn't know any of the bands on that list. Yes, I'm that music Illiterate.
Then I went to their list of 50 worst songs... The Final Countdown? Really? It's not the best song, but I'm sure there's worse.
Some of their reviews I don't like either.
I don't like that website very much.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
The Final Countdown is well and truly terrible. However, it is solidly in "so bad it's good" territory. It is impossible to have anything set to the final countdown without it being hilariously terrible in the most epic of ways. Just plugging "Final Countdown AMV" into youtube brings up this. For some reason, I cannot help but laugh hysterically for the duration. The horrible video quality makes it even better. YMMV, of course.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
No, that's basically it. But the list made it sound like "So Bad It's Horrible"

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
Basically, this list is made by some guy with very limited music tastes, and an "If I don't like it, it's no good." attitude. He thinks of all the music types he doesn't like, picks a famous band that represents it, and puts it on the list.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
...Well, that's pretty disgraceful. I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but as Rutskarn said...
Well, you disrespect Danny Elfman, you need to be removed.
Besides, no album with a cover like Only a Lad can possibly be bad.

Re: Blender... Uh, WHAT?
There is just no possible way you can put the Doors on a worst music list. No. Unforgivable.
