Default Is the Echelon RPG good...?

I have recently learned about the Echelon RPG and I am trying to find information about it before buying anything...

In theory, it sounds similar to the kind of system I have been looking for... a game where you learn each skill independently and build your own character... as in, a student of medicine would learn the Heal skill and Healing magic, a stage magician would learn the Perform skill and Illusion magic, an exorcist would learn Abjuration and Exorcism spells, an aristocrat could learn both armor and weapon proficiencies and the Diplomacy, Bluff and Knowledge skills...etc.

And of course you could have an student of medicine who is also a duelist, or an aristocrat who loves hunting and ends becoming something halfway in between a Bard and a Ranger...

That's in theory... I don't know if it's any good in actual play...

Has any of you ever tried it?

Thank you very much in advance...

Just to be clear, you're referring to the Eschalon trilogy by Basilisk Games, right?

If so, I personally really enjoyed it. You can get the first game for free at their site, so you can just see for yourself without any cost.

I've never played this game. But I see I don't like the graphics.

It's an old school indie game, developed by a single fellow. The sequels look a bit better, but they're all isometric turn-based games regardless.

Great Modthulhu: Since this is discussing a PnP game and not a CRPG, this thread is redundant with the one already existant in the Other Roleplaying Games subforum.
