Finally finished beating the Dalaran heist 5th area on heroic mode with all 9 heroes (admittedly I used anomaly mode for some of them, which can make it a bunch easier).
As rogue, I finally got the bomb combo I'd been waiting (several unsuccessful tries) for: duplatransmogrifier plus pogo. and it got even sillier since I got elixir of Vim and emerald goggles. just insane how broken that is in full. putting down 5 or so pogo hoppers turn one, and a couple more each turn after, just ends the game very very quickly.

other win plans of note from other experiences:
I underestimated robes of gaudiness, and ended up getting a few of my wins with them once I started trying it out. The ability to just keep selecting high end legend cards, and be able to cast them in rounds 2-4 due to the halving, really helps the early tempo, and since you're dropping high end legends the whole way through, you can maintain that strength.

The last two heroes gave me the most trouble, unsurprisingly; one big thing that helped at times was Golden Candle. turning ALL cards into legends also means they lose all their spells, which greatly weakens them as they're focused on spells, and their hero powers become far less of an issue.

A firm "hey, you can do whatever you want off -stream, but you're giving your full undivided attention on-stream" would probably have nipped it in the bud, but now both Grandmasters and Seiko look bad. Grandmasters is paying each player $500 a match ($1000 if you win) and honestly, they should fine him that much for what he did.

I was 100% going to flame Seiko because it's disrespectful not to give the GM matches his undivided attention. It's not a huge ask (4 hours or so every weekend) and he gets a huge elevation in his profile and a chance for Worlds that nobody else can get. If he can't or won't do it, then he should forfeit the match or give up his slot, like Dog did.

Then I read that Seiko actually got Blizzard's permission and my jaw dropped. Now he had a lapse in judgment, but that's what a good rule set and competent admins would prevent.

I think I'm mostly angry at Grandmasters because the system has been a mess. The only success so far for me is that there's a consistent time for competitive Hearthstone that I generally know when I can watch and with pretty good production quality.

Otherwise, everything else has been lackluster. The quality of the games has been pretty bad (so many misplays, even when the player isn't playing autochess on their phone), there's been a ton of mirror matches, including endless Warrior matches, and a lot of the games feel meaningless now that there's a pretty clear separation between the top and the bottom.

Even with that, I don't like how GM is the only path to Worlds and GM was invitation only. For a game like Hearthstone, there should be a path for a talented amateur to make it, like Firebat.
Yeah, Grandmasters in general has been a disaster. I found it immensely satisfying to see them change the tournament mode after only a single season, since it was immediately obvious (to everybody but Blizzard, apparently) that Specialist was going to be boring as hell to watch and drop the number of unique decks in the competition massively.

I've seen the same quality problems you have, but I don't know what to say about them. It's not like it's new players making the misplays - they're all established Hearthstone players with competitions under their belts. Maybe they wouldn't have gotten in under the old system, I dunno.

The biggest takeaway from Grandmasters is that Blizzard took a system that works just fine (but wasn't perfect) and replaced it with a system that is totally broken.

I got all the way to the first plague lord, and got him super low. Decided to just go face and get him down to 5 health, since I figured he couldn't do 16 burst damage.

I now get to fight through another 7 bosses, so that I can do 5 damage to the plague lord

So you keep damage dealt to the final boss? That is a different mechanic.

Yeah. Keep in mind though that the final bosses have hundreds of health. The first one has 300, and it only goes up from there. So keeping the damage is usually necessary unless your deck damage is crazy.

Sounds like fun, I'll get to start tonight. Too bad Mechathun isn't in this one, I killed the Lichking that way to avoid all the hassle.

I dunno I feel like I'd be having a better time if they did not keep the health totals. My experience thus far has been getting a silly OP deck in run one, and pushing through to phase 3 quickly, but overextended and got steamrolled by the sudden "Oh hey where did my board go?" hero power and dying before I could recover.

Now I've done about 3 more runs getting to the plague lord, but only getting in about 5-10 damage each time, because I don't have that slower first phase to get set up, and he's pulling out things like a full board of murlocs, plus two 10/10 murlocs that draw 2 at end of turn, plus everyfin is awesome, by like turn 4-5, and I just don't have any realistic way to deal with it at 4 mana.

If it was a full reset I'd have time to build resources and play it smarter than I did the first time. Instead it's seeming like I either need an absolutely bonkers deck, or to whittle it down 5-10 damage at a time over 10 runs. (over my last 3 I've gotten it from 95 to 68 health). I am going to take a break before it burns me out.
If my text is blue, I'm being sarcastic. But you already knew that, right?

Yeah, that sounds pretty awful. I do wish they'd implemented some kind of system that made it so you didn't have to fight through 7 bosses every time you lost to the final boss.

Huh. I was going to complain about the adventure, but turns out you get the three packs for just playing it once, not for completing it. So I don't have to do it again after losing to Octosari. I actually appreciate that, I have to say.

In non-adventure happenings, I won two games of Quest Shaman I did not deserve; it's a fun deck and I hope to grind my golden portrait with it.

First game was against Combo Priest who stuck a High Priest Amet on turn 4 and then made a 14/14 and hit me in the face.

Plague of Murlocs turned his minions into small Murlocs, Mogu Fleshshaper + Mutate cleared his board because I managed to land Batterram XD
    Spoiler: turns
    Show

His Turn 5: Divine Spirit + Inner Fire + Wild Pyro to put me to 12. He has no cards, I have no minions.

My turn 5: Curse of Murlocs to reduce his board to 3 murlocs (2 2/1s and a 2/3). I forget to roll a totem before Curse of Murlocs, but instead roll a Taunt totem.

His Turn 6: Trades the 2/3 into the totem, draws Extra Arms and buffs both minions to 4/3s and gets me to 4. So, if I didn't roll the taunt totem I was dead. His board is a 2/3, 4/3. 4/3.

My Turn 6: Pray... and play a Mogu Fleshshaper (7 mana) 3/4 Rush, trade into his 2/3 and Mutate it into a Batterram (8 mana 3/12 Rush. If it kills a minion, it can attack again), which can then clear his board. I then control the board the rest of the way and I win; he passed the next couple turns so he probably whiffed on actual minions.

So he would have won if he landed both extra arms on one of the 2/1s instead of spreading it out.

Second game was against Control Warrior, I was 5 cards into fatigue and hit the hail mary.

Shudderwock gave me Azalina. Azalina gave me Archivist. Archivist stopped the fatigue and I managed to maintain tempo to win.

Spoiler: How Shudder gave me Azalina
    Show

I was already 5 cards into fatigue and had exhausted all my resources. However he hadn't been paying full attention during my Shudderwock.

I played a fully loaded Shudderwock with two Former Champs. One of the 5/5s got hit with 2 different evolve lackeys which led to a 7 mana minion that then got bounced into my hand by Bog Slosher... That minion was Azalina Soulthief.

I play out the rest of the game and then used the Azalina as a last gasp and instead got a copy of his Archivist Elyssiana. If he had played the Archivist before removing my minions, he would have won; he was still pretty healthy before the Archivist shenanigans.

Since I played my minions before his minions, I had the tempo advantage and was able to win, what should have been a lost game.

I've been having a lot of fun with Reno, helps that I like to play Tempo Thief Rogue on ladder. Got a Treasure early on that makes the Opponent skip their first 2 turns; basically an auto win against the early bosses, and gives you a good leg up on tempo when they start ramping up their starting Mana. Also picked up a Giant Ring passive treasure that gave my minions +1 Health and Taunt, that had to have saved me from getting overwhelmed by the surprise Murk-eye in Plague Lord's deck.

Chewed through all 300 hp on one run as Reno. Scratch that; as Frostlich Jaina, there to combat the fishy menace. Secondary MVP goes to the 5 Mana 5/1 that deals 5 to all enemy minions then shuffles itself back into your deck.

Ring that gives -1 attack to enemy minions is OP in this act.

I did similar, but with the Band of Bees (all 2 cost or less minions have Poison). Trading a Tinyfin into a Megafin was pretty darn satisfying.

Second boss as Finley was a fair bit harder, since I didn't have the sustain of Jaina to keep my life total up. I kept up on board by continually discovering Mistcallers and then Shudderwocking to stack the buffs even higher. I wound up with 2 HP, but got lucky and a 16/15 Brazen Zealot used the Twist to smash the boss in the face for the win.

Heroic seems like it's going to be rough. Siamat had a 3/6 Divine Shield/Taunt/Windfury on the board on turn 2. I've been dismissing the Disks that give two free turns at the start, but maybe I shouldn't be if that's the sort of craziness the later bosses will be dishing out.

This adventure is pretty fun, honestly. I'm really liking the "dungeon run" style adventures. With is basically my only interaction with Hearthstone.

So, Murloc Bro on Heroic is freaking TERRIFYING.

First phase wasn't too bad. I got total board dominance, a full hand, and thought I was ready for second phase. HAH!

Every single turn, he cast Tip the Scales, or Anyfin Can Happen, or the dungeon specific one that resurrects 5 Murlocs. This went on for about 7 or 8 turns before I finally ran out of answers. Every turn, a full board of buffed Murlocs with the Taunt in the way that gives them all +1/+1. The Murlocs were all high quality too - Warleaders, Megafins, Underbelly Anglers, Scargills, Finjas...

Outside of an actual infinite combo, I don't see how you could beat it in a single shot. There's just no way to have enough clears to keep up while also dealing damage to his face.

I was so annoyed when I had the elixir of Vim with the special torch Reno has and it then it got burnt. I also lost my academic espionage. The boss probably would have been a cake walk with the torch just repeatedly smashing them in the face but instead I has a long draw out fight as a frost lich.

Hooooly hell, just finished a run with Finley after a disastrous first attempt (offered terrible treasures and buckets, bad time).

If you get offered the VIP Membership treasure, take it, trust me. "Bob's Bombastic Deck" is ****ing bonkers.

I think the Hearthstone servers went down yesterday. I was in the middle of a run when I got disconnected and then couldn't get back in for a couple hours.

If you get offered the VIP Membership treasure, take it, trust me. "Bob's Bombastic Deck" is ****ing bonkers.

The Madness Lord never stood a chance. Whipped through 298 HP in like 14 turns.
Even if you don't get the Bombastic Deck, VIP Membership is an auto-pick. You get SO many good options, like decreasing the cost of your entire deck by 1. I'm pretty sure that's one of the treasures I had when I beat the Madness dude.

Didn't know Bombastic deck was a thing though, I didn't get it offered to me in either Tavern. It sounds amazing.

The one I got was, there may actually be multiple.

It was a deck basiclaly consisting of completed quests. So it had all the Un'Goro quest rewards, for starters. Fully charged copies of each one of the Spellstones from Kobolds and Catacombs (including an UN-NERFED version of Greater Emerald Spellstone). Then a smattering of other "quest" type cards. The Ancient One just as a playable 9 mana 30/30, Azari (from Rin, the First Disciple), Highkeeper Ra, etc.

It was rounded out with boss cards (like Hunter's Insight; 3 mana reduce the cost of all cards in hand by 3) and some of the Dungeon Run playable treasures like Wish, Wondrous Wand, and Wand of Disintegrate.

In the next Tavern I made Barnabus the Stomper my Right Hand Man, and then rolled over everything. My turn 9 play against the Madness Lord was to play a 0 mana version of Highkeeper Ra, then summon 3 extra copies of it with Greater Sapphire Spellstone for a free 100 damage (80 from the Big Boom Blasta effect and 20 from the free hit for one being on the right side of my board). He Psychic Screamed the next turn, but the damage was done. I hit him with a 0 mana Azari next turn, bounced it back into my hand using his own Sahket Sapper, then did it again when he got a whole new deck on a phase swap and pounded him while he held onto whatever the last card in his hand was.

I managed to get the Bombastic deck in a run tonight, and mine didn't seem to be anywhere near as good as yours. It was just a load of Kobold's and Catacombs playable treasures, including stuff like the Blade of Quel'dalar (the broken version, not the full sword). I struggled against the rank 6 and 7 bosses since I didn't have synergy between my treasures and some of them were pretty useless on their own (like the 3 mana 1/1 chick that keeps buff spells between games). I had to spend my Hearthstone on boss 7 to retreat and find an easier guy to fight.

Fortunately, I managed to survive long enough against the Plaguelord to cast the random Pyroblast spell that keeps going until you or your opponent dies. I managed to land a good 60-70 damage on Murloc bro before I finally whiffed and killed myself. I left him at 4 HP.

The next run, I discovered a truly broken combo. Double up on the pack animal option from the Tavern to drop Maxwell's cost down to 1, then pick up the disks to make your opponents skip their next two turns. Right hand man Maxwell. Turn 1, play Maxwell. Turn 2, use hero power to give him Divine Shield and Windfury. Proceed to wreck face as you get free Murlocs to buff up Maxwell's damage.

I managed to beat heroic madness in one try. Turns out making the enemies minions cost 1 more is so good. Never had to deal with any of their old god cards at all thanks to it.

Got the first boss down to 40 first try, beat him on the second. I would have beat the second boss first try using the "whenever you play a legendary get 2" with a ton of legendaries and "whenever you cast an odd spell reduce costs by 1." Then I played the woman who removes your deck and replaces it, which turned off my engine and I died with the opponent at 15.

In other Hearthstone news, I had a pretty fun match in Tavern Brawl.

Yeah, turns out Righteous Protector and Fungalmancer are still insane. The former even more so when it can be casually fetched by Crystology.
