Default Skyside 6: Return of the Cheddar

A bustling trade city famously situated atop a high-tech array of anti-gravity generators that give the flying city its name, Skyside has seen better days. Once a booming, futuristic metropolis with a strict legal system and formidable state-supported economy, the collapse of Skyside's monarchy has blown the city's political system into a state of literal anarchy. A plague of change and opportunity has infected the city at all levels, from the nobles and other persons of substance jockeying to to fill the political void left by the collapse of the old system, to new immigrants attracted by Skyside's new lack of taxes or restriction. The markets of Skyside's Tempest Row, once tightly regulated, are now open to all kinds of vice and debauchery unseen in the more stable cities of the Nexus, including a growing slave market.

While the forces of the remaining nobility and the presence of the Royal Guard generally stops widespread fighting in the streets before it gets too out of hand, violence on a smaller scale is still common, and people who cannot protect themselves (or hire others to protect them) are often beaten, killed or kidnapped to be used in experiments or sold into slavery for those with lower standards.

In general, visitors and residents of Skyside learn to stay on their toes pretty quickly. Even the safest and most affluent areas of Skyside are vulnerable to some amateur mad scientist's latest giant robot or genetic abomination running loose and causing havoc, or a temporal anomaly rolling through and causing a street full of people to suddenly age several weeks in the space of a few seconds. The city can be chaotic, and often times dangerous, but there is potential for great wealth here, if someone has a talent for spotting opportunity and grabbing it. Whether with their own hands or the remotely controlled mecha hands that they designed in their attic is highly dependent on the person, of course.

    Factions
    Spoiler
    Show

With no ruler or central government in Skyside to maintain order and uphold the laws, political power in Skyside has broken down into dozens of individual political factions with differing goals and operations. Some seriously look to the palace, seeking to claim Skyside's throne and restore the city to its former position. Others are factions merely of convenience, providing certain protections and services in exchange for loyalty or money. Others may have their own goals entirely.

Any player can make any number of factions, with any form of political goal in competition with the other factions. Weaker factions might slip under the radar, but more powerful factions might be the target of other player based factions, who might seek to sabotage or undermine other factions in order to achieve an advantage. Of course, that's not to say that the target faction can't fight back...

Please remember to be courteous to other players though, and don't force conflict if it's clear that it's not wanted. On the other hand, please don't create a faction if your plan is to make them untouchable and stonewall everyone's attempts to try and interact with or compete with your faction. This is a collaborative thread, everyone have fun!

Please PM if you want a faction added to this OP.

    House Sky (player: AshenLilies)

    Spoiler
    Show
Formerly the rulers of Skyside, the royal lineage is now held hostage within their own palace, barred from entering politics by the Royal Guard for their own safety. A king or queen of Skyside hasn't been crowned for almost a century, however the most recent and last remaining Skyside heir, Princess YoonJi, has been a little unusual in her seeming immunity to assassination plots. Countless attempts have been made on the life of the princess (scarcely into her teens) and yet all assassins have either been caught, died under mysterious circumstances, or been involved in sudden romances with palace servants, eventually settling down to become simple farmers.

    Skyside Royal Guard (player: AshenLilies)

    Spoiler
    Show
The chief line of defense for the city and the crown, the Skyside Royal Guard remains a formidable fighting force, despite their reduced numbers and seeming lack of political involvement. The primary duty of the Skyside Royal Guard is to protect the Sky family, and as such they are rarely seen outside the immediate surroundings of the Sky Palace Tower, unless something happens in the city to attract their notice - or incur their wrath.

    BrightStar Corporation (player: AshenLilies)

    Spoiler
    Show
An old company name dating from the monarchy days of Skyside, BrightStar Corporation seems to have taken full advantage of the chaos in Skyside to emerge as one of the largest corporate powers. Their flourishing in this new lawless environment has led to rumors of them actively working to maintain the status quo, including murdering promising Skyside heirs, or sabotaging any noble house or political force that looks like it may become too powerful and restore order back to the city.

Tempest Spaceport Commerce Guild (player: AshenLilies, in theory - though anyone is open to play a member of the guild)

    Spoiler
    Show
A small conglomerate of mostly Ferengi and Hutt partners that run the Tempest Spaceport. The Commerce Guild provides security to the spaceport and its immediate surroundings, as well as collects a light tax on spaceport business and trade, but are otherwise pretty chill dudes, and uninterested in wider Skyside politics.

    City Defense

    Spoiler
    Show
Though effectively lawless, some semblance of peace in Skyside is maintained by both the private security forces of the various guilds and factions that operate within the city, as well as through the overwatch of the Syside Royal Guard, who protect the Sky Palace Tower and also the city as a whole from foreign invasion. Oeioke raising too much of a disturbance should expect to draw attention from any number of concerned parties, who may have an interest in keeping their business running smoothly, as tumultuous as the political situation may be.

As a whole city, Skyside's defenses against aerial and ground assault are dedicated and formidable. As uninvolved as they are in local politics, the Royal Guard has no desire to see Skyside fall to any foreign invasion or interference, and does not slack off in its duties when it comes to city defense, even if they are a total non-presence in Skyside's day-to-day order.

    Old Skyside/"The Raindrop District"
    Spoiler
    Show
The historic city nearest to Skyside's Sky Palace Tower, what's come to be known as the "Raindrop District" by newer generations of Skysiders is a place of incredible change.

The older estates, temples and monuments, abandoned by all but the most stubborn of Skyside's old order, are being demolished, replaced by new residential growth of various types, from the absolutely dismal to the actually-pretty-nice. Some of the more novel developments in housing include ad-sponsored houses, and other low-cost developments for moderate quality housing. In between the housing developments come all the small businesses you'd expect from Skyside's fastest-growing residential sector, including corner stores, fast food, laundromats, and all the other handy spots that let people get everything they need without having to travel far.

The Raindrop District is relatively safe by day, especially in the parts of the town still held on to by the old Skyside elites, nearer to the Palace Tower, but generally is more dangerous at night. Especially in the more ramshackle parts of the Raindrop District, the back alleys tend to be frequented by muggers and the like, and break-ins are very common during the day when the occupants are likely out working. The wise Raindrop District inhabitant keeps good locks and a trusty firearm close at hand, at the very least, and some shell out for more, opting to rely on protection from mercenary and security firms that provide added safety... for a price.

    The Cloudtops

    Spoiler
    Show
The wealthiest and most glamorous section of Skyside, the Cloudtops form the new fortress of Skyside's new elites: an incredibly tall, shiny fortress, dominated by tall skyscrapers of glass and steel, covered in bright lights and connected by paved roads and elevated walkways galore.

The Cloudtops is home to Skyside's richest residents, and Skyside's biggest businesses and corporations. The Cloudtops is also Skyside's safest district, kept such by the forces of countless taskforces of well-equipped private security teams.

    Tempest Row

    Spoiler
    Show
Depending on who you ask, Tempest Row is either a vibrant, colorful area full of exotic wares and noisy taverns where ale flows freely, and the barmaids are very accommodating; or a raging, screaming drunk who will drag you into a back alley, beat you over the head with a stick, and run off with your valuables. Or both at once.

Housing the main airship docks and largest spaceport zone, Tempest Row is the nickname for the bustling market and entertainment district of Skyside. With the constant traffic in and out of the city, Tempest Row is home to countless taverns, bars, clubs, and brothels of various sorts, providing boisterous and often debauched entertainment for Skyside's visitors.

With its large crowds and large numbers of shop guards, Tempest Row is relatively safe from violence, though the odd scientific anomaly or experiment-got-loose may amble through occasionally. Visitors in Tempest Row should instead keep a closer watch on their valuables rather than their safety, keeping a close eye out for the pickpockets, scam-artists, and cutpurses of various sorts walking through the crowds, looking for easy money; or the gangs of street toughs roaming the back alleys, waiting for someone too drunk to put up a good fight to stumble along.

    Thunderhead

    Spoiler
    Show
The constant black smoke belching from the sprawling jumble of towering smokestacks and open smelting furnaces gives this area its name among the locals. Thunderhead is the main industrial area of Skyside, filled with factories, smelteries, warehouseries, and a whole array of other varied monuments to urban squalor. Everything from airship construction to weapons manufacture takes place here, and accidents can sometimes happen, especially with the more unscrupulous employers who care little about what happens to their factory workers, whether they be paid workers, slaves, robots or the mutated fishmen your mad scientist donor kindly granted you.

Thunderhead is among the most dangerous of the districts, with vicious gangs and supervillains hiding out in the mysteriously abandoned warehouses (seriously, Skyside is short on space, why are all there all these abandoned warehouses?), and gangs frequently forming among the poorest of Skyside's communities: the underpaid factory workers and industrial chattel that fill row upon row of unmaintained tenement housing and ruined apartments. Most good factories have guards to protect their workers (or keep them from escaping), but among the houses of the working poor, the streets can turn into a danger zone at any point, with very few people willing to stick around and bear witness.

    Groundtown

    Spoiler
    Show
For those who couldn't get onto Skyside proper, one can always live in its shadow. While Skyside once was a mobile city, moving place to place for safety and resources, since its collapse it has remained stationary, allowing secondary development under and around the city. Located directly under and around the floating city, Groundtown is a small, but growing settlement of improvised buildings and pre-fab housing blocks, populated largely by Skyside's poorest and most unfortunate workers, poorer even than Thunderhead's inhabitants, commuting morning and evening to the city above by way of hanging basket-lifts and small flying skiffs.

Located outside even Skyside's limited bubble of security and order, and utterly ignored by the Royal Guard, Groundtown can be truly hellish at times. Fighting on the streets between warring gangs is an all too common sight, and even the heaviest of personal weaponry cannot always guarantee personal safety. Residents of Groundtown lock their valuables up tight and keep their gun under their pillow, and visitors should always keep their eyes peeled for thieves and muggers. What little safety can be had in Groundtown comes from the powerful gangs who do their best to control the disorder within their own territory, and the superpowered and/or costumed vigilantes who can be found patrolling nightly, unwilling to let Groundtown fall apart and be consumed by darkness.

Sky Palace Tower (Player: AshenLilies, Raindrop District)

    BrightStar Spaceport (The Cloudtops)

    Spoiler
    Show
The second largest spaceport in Skyside, the shiny new BrightStar Spaceport, owned by BrightStar Corporation, is a chief connection between Skyside and the great final frontier. Frequent shuttles and cargo ships make trips between this spaceport and various space-stations close to the Nexus, including Salmagundi station, and there's talk of BrightStar Corporation expanding the spaceport to include a space elevator between the spaceport and Salmagundi station.

    Tempest Spaceport (Tempest Row)

    Spoiler
    Show
Larger than BrightStar Spaceport, Tempest Spaceport is a little less well adapted for big business and heavy shipping, as Tempest Spaceport is not actually just one spaceport, but a loose connection of spaceports and associated businesses, all run by members of the Tempest Spaceport Commerce Guild. The Tempest Spaceport is a favorite stop for independent spacers and smaller shipping industries, being a cheaper, if less glamorous alternative to the BrightStar Spaceport in the Cloudtops.

Attila's Cantina (Player: AshenLilies, Tempest Row)

    Spoiler
    Show
Located within the Tempest Spaceport complex, Attila's Cantina is a bar run by an enterprising Hutt named Attila, who caters mostly to the pilots, captains and crew of starships stopping at Skyside. A large variety of food and beverages can be found here, with a special emphasis on items resembling what can be found from Attila's home galaxy, making it especially popular among those who have been sucked into the Nexus from said galaxy. People who know to ask can purchase small quantities of rare Spice from Attila, and he has a wide variety of contacts among Tempest Row traders and dock keepers, making him a good source of information for people looking to know what's what in the area.

The Cantina is relatively clean and bright, though noisy with the constant chatter of alien species. The ubiquitous Bith space-jazz band plays on a raised stage to once side, along with Twi'lek dancers (free and well payed) and vocalists. A few heavily armed guards dot the edges, and Attila himself keeps his powerful blaster shotgun clearly visible above the bar (along with a larger, even more powerful blaster hidden under it) in order to dissuade troublemakers.

Atlas Park (Player: AshenLilies, The Cloudtops)

    Spoiler
    Show
Located in the midst of the Cloudtops, Atlas Park is a little bit of an anomaly within the urbanized city center. Atlas Park is covered by a transparent dome, keeping out any pollution from the city, while allowing the climate inside to be manipulated to a fine degree. Atlas Park is home to some very attractive landscaping, exotic plants, a small lake, and in general is just a very nice green space for people to relax away from the buildings and bustle of the rest of Skyside. A massive statue of the titan the park is named after stands proudly in the middle of the park, carrying aloft a sphere covered in stars and constellations on his shoulders in reference to the original myth. Oddly enough, though, anyone who manages to get a close look at his face might note an odd expression carved there, which, combined with the slightly odd tilt to his shoulders vaguely suggests an image of Atlas shrugging.

Entrance to Atlas Park requires payment of a moderate fee to keep the park running, though membership cards can be purchased to allow free access over a period of time.

Brickstown Free Clinic (Player: AshenLilies, The Raindrop District)

    Spoiler
    Show
A humble looking brick building in one of the more dismal parts of the Raindrop District, the Brickstown Free Clinic, true to its name, provides free service to any and all patients who visit. The previously red brick of its outer facade has been stained soot black by its proximity to the smoky foundries of Thunderhead, and the inside is somewhat dingy and depressing, with a smell halfway between disinfectant and old vomit. The building and regular staff are payed for entirely through donations, whether it be from the locked steel donation box in the lobby, or more importantly, a set of undisclosed benefactors. Despite this, the clinic continues to be understaffed and overburdened. However, those in the area will know of a mysterious doctor who visits the clinic on occasion, typically at odd hours of the night, to treat the clinic's more critical or chronic patients, before leaving. The identity of this mysterious doctor is a secret kept closely by the clinic's staff and management, as is whether they have any ulterior motives for their aid.

    Tinkertown (Player: None, Thunderhead)

    Spoiler
    Show
A small sub-district located in between Thunderhead and the Raindrop District, Tinkertown is an odd district full of warehouses that have been mostly rented as labspace for the large cohort of mad scientists and visionaries who call Skyside home. As such, Tinkertown tends to be even more chaotic than Skyside at large, home to a wide variety of technicolored explosions, noxious gas outbreaks, and half-fish abominations wandering the streets, looking for their mummy. The non-Mad Scientist population of Skyside usually knows to stay well away from Tinkertown, though some find themselves drawn to the noise and excitement, or the glamorous (and occasionally lucrative) occupation of being some up-and-coming supervillain's henchman, hunchbacked assistant or attractive mistress.

Temple to Pazuzu (Player: Earl of Purple, Tempest Row)

    Spoiler
    Show
One of the buildings here, an overhanging pub with a novelty glass floor that quickly went out of business due to one short gunfight and a very long drop, has been taken over by a new group.

They've put up a sign outside depicting a red vulture with wings and talons outstretched superimposed on a silver cloud. Beneath that is a sign proclaiming this to be the Temple of Pazuzu, and on the other side is a list of the dates of various religious celebrations.

Outside, it still resembles the other taverns, being a three-storey building with a flat roof to dock smaller aircraft. Inside, there's an altar at the far end with a cage suspended over a hole in the floor next to it. There's a central aisle with rows of pews on either side, most suited for winged individuals.

    OoC Notes and Rules
    Spoiler
    Show
    1. For we are not Gods, merely Men. Godmodding is not permissible! As stated in the rules in the FFRP Central Thread,, godmodding is generally not allowed without permission. If you're shaky on what might be, and what might not be godmodding, please follow the above link.
    2. An interior decorator is you! Remember the curtain! It is accepted that there will of course be some inter-PC relationships, and that romance and certain physical interactions (commonly known as sex) happen. However, please be courteous to others and curtain any scene that you wouldn't be willing to write with your parents watching. This is so you can stay within forum rules, as well as letting those uninterested in the scene pass by without having to glimpse your poorly written and anatomically impossible erotica. Thank you.
    3. It's probably a Nemesis plot.
    4. I can save this planet! “My character is an escaped slave who became a paladin and hates slavery! She's going to attack every slaver she sees and singlehandedly tear down Skyside's slave industry!” Since everything is legal in Skyside, it's inevitable that some less well-looked upon industries, such as slavery, will find a foothold there, which more morally upright characters may take affront to. However, always be mindful of the consequences of a random paladin trying to attack slavers in the streets, burn markets down or knock down doors and bash in heads. Even in a lawless city, slavery is still unpopular, and any slavers brave enough to be operating in the open are likely to have lots of guards to protect their interests. Also, Skyside does still have some factions interested in public order, as well as the Royal Guard, who will try to stop any fights that start spreading and disrupting safety and order in a large area. Someone who consistently acts very aggressive and randomly assaults people and property in the open is likely to find themselves in a lot of trouble, very quickly. Also, not everyone wants to have to constantly respond to every Joseph McHero and Sally Superwoman who wants to pick a fight with them. If you plan on having a character take action and take down a specific store or organization, please be courteous and ask the players involved if they're willing to RP it, and remember that there are more subtle ways to take down an industry than kicking them in the teeth.
    5. Our words are backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS. Remnant/Riverside/Orgs hunting down supervillains hiding out in Skyside: Go ahead. In general, it's perfectly alright to carry out retribution against any criminals trying to hide out in Skyside, as long as the force sent is relatively discrete or small scale enough to avoid notice from the powers-that-be. Large numbers of troops or powerful strike forces will generally draw negative attention from the Royal Guard, though, unless they have been informed of the operation beforehand and approve (though they probably won't). Gotta protect that independence, yo.
    6. 3 EDGY 5 ME Please do your best to avoid excessively dark or disturbing roleplay. Skyside can be a den for cruelties and evil of all sorts, however, some situations are simply too dark for this forum. Try to avoid roleplaying or alluding to scenarios that could be disturbing or potentially triggering, even if it may be realistic or showcase how awful your character is.
    7. Long Live the Queen! Princess YoonJi is immortal. Period. You can try to kill her and dismantle the Sky dynasty. You will fail.

"But if you take my hand, I can give you a ride directly to the manor itself. My attendants will be right there after me, don't worry about that. They can find their own way to the manor."

"Uh, good luck?" Amy remarks hesitantly, having been oddly quiet as Tellysandra has been around. The nobles mere presence seem to make her quite nervous. "I really hope everything goes well, Butler."
    [The Petroldactyl]

So finish up the tour later. Makes sense. If his duties will be at the manor for the time being, it'd be better to focus on that. Butler smiles warmly at Amy without worry. "It'll be fine ma'am. I'll come back to visit you after I get settled in ma'am." Amy was probably a little sad she didn't get to finish the tour! Butler's been a tour guide before. He knows the feeling. Hopefully he can alleviate that concern by promising to return so she can get the satisfaction of a job well done! Nothing beats that satisfaction.

Butler turns back to Tellysandra and gives a more grateful smile. "If it's not too much trouble for you ma'am. Thank you ma'am." Butler says, taking her hand in a genteel manner befitting a butler holding the hand of someone above his station.

In addition he got no problems with most mechanical locked doors and takes the time to close them behind. Should the buildings layout not stop the Orcs they will be met by the guy pointing his shotgun at them as soon as they are in vision.

They leave doors open, once they realise the man they're following isn't doing so. At least that way they won't cover any ground twice, which hopefully helps them from getting lost, even if it does mean they aren't as fast as the man they chase.

The last door, to the room Jaahlyn is located in, is locked too. But its also barred from the other side. Jaahlyn made sure of that once she heard of someone approaching her hideout that purposefully.

"Everything can be questioned, we questioned her after all didn't we? Despite not knowing anything about the society she was from. We can never have the same context as she does, nor can she understand your point of view completely, yet both of you must still be able to question one another." Ambrosia remarks. "Otherwise criticism of any form would be difficult."

Tellysandra will of course make sure to wash her hand afterwards to get rid off those lowborn germs.
Still, she smiles at Butler as the world turns completely white around him in a flash. Unable to see anything but white for several minutes he finally finds himself standing in the middle of a large ornate garden filled with statues. Then a sudden sense of vertigo hits him as Tellysandra let's go of his hand.
"Here we are, stormulus manor. My ancestral home. I don't suppose you have experience tending gardens too?"

The man will probably arrive at Jaahlyn's door first, but the orcs won't be far behind. The moment they see him, they'll fire a taser at him, sending a tiny electrified pin at him before sending immense volts through it. It's a disabling weapon, not a killing one, but it should disable him.

    Dr. Nora's Office

Dr. Nora's office is just down the hall to the right, third door on the left where Rozpacz is taken to and then told to wait just a moment while the doctor is informed. Next to the name Nora on the desk, a sticky note is added to the name, changing it to Norael. The office is nice, large, and despite the rather clinical looking bed-slash-patient chair, it looks more like a library or study than a doctor's office. Bookshelves line two walls, packed full of neatly organized tomes of topics ranging from magic to anatomy to vivisection to disease. Whomever the doctor was, she was well studied or at least liked to appear as such. The third wall had a television and a back-lit panel for x-rays, and the fourth(the one with the doorway), had locked cabinets and some specimen jars on display.

After a few minutes, Dr. Norael enters, possibly surprising Rozpacz with her appearance. She looked to be in her middle to upper 30s, carried herself like an athlete, and had a slim toned body kept in shape by rigorous exercise. Her pale skin practically glows with vitality, but her hair and wings do glow with soft blue-purple light. The angel had no mouth, with it replaced by smooth skin that only bears a suggestion of a mouth, but she seems quite happy today as she saunters in and sets a hot cup of coffee on her desk before settling in. She wears no lab coat to take off, preferring to wear a tight black turtleneck sweater and bellbottom jeans with heels. Before she addresses Rozpacz, she unravels a silver bracelet from her wrist and turns it into an ear piece to wear. "Mr. Rozpacz, I presume? I am Doctor Norael. I'm here to check you out, make sure you're healthy, and if necessary, correct such issues before you are truly allowed to work with KABAL. If you could, tell me your full name, species and subspecies if relevant, what sort of work you're looking for, and if you have any sort of medical history I should be aware of."

Beside her on her desk, what might be assumed to be a display version of a Geiger Counter, clicks slowly and steadily.

Fidelia hesitates before nodding. That sounded fair enough for her. She turns towards the other undead "experts", attempting to conceal her unease and worry as best she can manage. Which is only a moderate success. "There really is an all-ghoul club nearby, there's plenty of purging there. I-I know they definitely prey on people for meat, I've heard a bunch of stories."

Butler sways a little, but recovers quickly, no stranger to instantaneous transportation effects. He does look confused though. "Where was the SPGT ma'am?" How did they teleport without a Strange Purple Glowy Thing?

Ah well. "I know a little about tending a garden ma'am. Vidalia taught me a fair bit, as did my time at Good League of Good ma'am. But I still wouldn't be as good as a dedicated gardener ma'am." Butler will suffice in a pinch but a butler and a gardener tend to have very distinct duties!

"Pardon?" Tellysandra inquires. "Not sure what you're referring to, but I already have a dedicated gardener so don't worry about that. But even a bit of experience means that you might be able to help out or at least know enough to not ruin any of the garden itself. I've had butlers in the past who've killed several plants by watering them too much or not know what kind of meat to give the Llangulhs." A common mantrap, AKA a far larger, aggressive and more animated flytrap-like species of plant. "I know they're not common in gardens but why don't they ever ask instead of giving them pork? So unprofessional. She shakes her head.

    [The Mad Fronts]

"I'll send you the coordinates to his lab once I got this thing up and running..." Shazhan remarks as his swirling mass starts entering the cube Ishmat placed on the floor. "Ishmat. Don't do anything I wouldn't do while I'm working this out."

The other ethereal nods. "Count on me!" Then she turns to Affy, clapping her bandaged hands together.
"Right, so, while I was away, I remember that I had forgotten to tell you about the avatar project. See, I've been able to clone a beings brain chemistry to a completely different body without any side effects, part of research into cloning, and I was gonna ask, what can your creations do exactly? How are they created?" She points right at him. "Can they alter their physiology to such a degree that they would become unrecognizable at a moment's notice? Preferably at command."

    [Street of Slavers]

"An interesting perspective to to hear about." Ambrosia remarks with a thoughtful nod and for a moment she's staring off into the distance. "It makes me think of a story I heard of a father that always told his daughter that he lied to her and it was her job to find out if what he said was true or not. She asked him plenty of things, yet he almost always knew the answers to her questions. But despite that he always slipped in a lie somewhere, simply to teach her a lesson." She turns to look at Thariza again, her gaze once more sharp. "Did you believe everything your parents or other authority figures told you, Thariza?"

    Parks and Reanimation

"You think we're fooled that easily? You are probably associating with them yourself considering how you accept this tainted creatures bargain." The horn-clad one gestures at blue-hood who has started to get up. "But considering how young you are, I'm going to give you a chance to run before we start purging this place."

Without warning blue hood turns, and runs, almost dropping down on all fours for a moment as her hooves dig deep into the soft ground underneath, leaving clear hoof-prints.
    "Wha- not you!"
"Run! I'll meet up with you!" Blue hood turns to shout before continuing onward.
    The horned one starts chasing.
"Nice meeting you, kid!" The elderly one remarks with a two fingered gesture before breaking into a sprint after blue-hood.
The rest of the group, as in the masked man and his group of thugs seem to have lost interest in the whole thing and are wandering off. Wonder what his deal was?

Butler is a little awed. "I've only ever met one plant who ate meat ma'am." And that was because Vidalia had very specific dietary desires! He's certainly never even heard of a Llangulh before. "I will make it a point to talk to the gardener as soon as possible and ask them what I need to know ma'am. Don't worry ma'am. I haven't accidentally killed a plant in over twenty-five years ma'am. Especially in regards to decor and table arrangements ma'am." But also gardens.

"Well I- hmm." The Prof pauses. "AMEN, you say? AMEN's still around - we knew that already- then? I shouldn't be surprised- it's all right there to see. Nothing is a surprise- I suppose but, mmm, it would be rather nice if they were gone for good. They have a dogged persistence to rival my own. I might admire it, if they'd ever done anything worthwhile." Something else for him to chastise Magtok about, perhaps. That's always fun.

Affidavit taps his cane and the creation obediently blobs up beside him. "This particular one was created with the intention of being something of a collector's piece, to appeal to my target audience. Usually I care little for how my creations look, but I felt a something a bit more, mm, slick was in order this time. In terms of hiding in plain sight, it can distribute iteslf. Not very good at masquerading as someone it's not, but very good blending in as something it's not."

Obediently, the creation extends a long, thin tendril that proceeds to spread itself out extremely thinly across the ground until it's barely visible, nothing more than a faint sheen across the surface.

"Put it anywhere with, well, a reasonable amount of space over which to distribute itself, and you'd never know it was there at all."

But I never felt like I should question what the fahrar caretakers or superior officers said. They were higher than me in the chain of command, so they knew better. When the man arrives he just puts his hand over the lock and the sound of an openening lock will get heared inside. He tries to open the door but the bar behind keeps it shut. The man doesn't seem to be strong enougth to overcome it.

Then he steps back and pulls out his shotgun. Right befor he can do more, the orcs appear and shoot their dart. The dart will just penetrate the man without much trouble. It seems like his clothes are part of his body in some way. As they electrocute him they just see the part around the dart melting. But this doesn't seem to disable the man. Instead he now points his shotgun at the orcs and fires befor they can shoot another dart. His weapon is a leathal one. It's a shotgun so it will spray over the distance which might make it even more dangerouse depending how much armor the orcs wear.

    Dr. Nora's Office

Rozpacz sits in silence. Being a former military general of the Polish Army means sufficient training to remain still and watch the minutes tick by, taking note of the surroundings until the angelic doctor shows her face. He turns to her direction as soon as she shows herself, eyeing her angelic form with a guarded and suspicious look. His red-feathered wings twitch almost imperceptibly.

However, he feels no instinctual desire to either flee or leap at her, a fact that gives him some pause. Perhaps she's merely angel-touched, or an angel of human origin... or perhaps where she's from, being considered an angel means different rules than what he's used to. There's also the matter of what morality would make one who's willing to identify as angelic serve KABAL. Either way, if she's truly on their side then more power to them.

He listens to her speech without a word, studying her before deciding it's best to answer her questions. "I am Marcin Iago Bolen-Escobar, and I wish to be referred to as Rozpacz. Species: Harpy, demon-marked. Where I'm from, demons are fallen celestials, and I could be referred to as a half-demon of harpy origin, partially remade for the best of both worlds. Domain: Misery, despair and chaos." The man recites in a disciplined and orderly manner. "I was an army General, serving my country in the special operations division, I am seasoned in black ops with a body and physique to match, with demonic power beyond anything I ever wielded as a mere mortal." He says, watching her reaction closely, seeing whether she'd put him at ease or on edge. He doesn't know it yet, but it's probably the former.

"I am more than healthy to my knowledge, and I am looking for work that will utilize my honed military skills while allowing me to cultivate misery to feed off of. Assassinations, for instance."
He finishes, then pauses for her reaction.

As he talks, Norael turns slightly in her chair to type on her computer, the screen turned away and the keyboard hidden beneath the desk. Even if he could look, she's typing in a different unrecognizable language. "I see." She says, her mouthless face entirely passive other than a small quirk of her left eyebrow when she turns back to face her interviewee. "Now, I'm going to cast a spell on you that will let me read your vitals, and then I will be asking you a few questions." She informs him before flicking her hand at him with an uttered "Status." Her ear-piece swings out over her eye, giving her a small holo-field that allows her to see the information streaming from him including blood pressure, heart rate, body temp, and eventually it'll even analyze him for disease and viruses.

"Now Iago, I must admit that I already have a few concerns."
She admits, looking a bit apologetic with a small sweeping gesture of her hand towards him. "First, you say you feed off of misery and serve chaos. You do understand that this is a corporation, correct? By its very nature it must be structured, ordered, and disciplined to a degree. Yet by your own admittance Marcy you say your nature is towards the opposite."

Rozpacz nods. When the spell is cast, it shows that all of his information is nominal, perhaps even higher than the high end of the acceptable limits of the nominal value.

However, she calls him by every name but Rozpacz. He just looks at her, his eyes darkening. "I will only say it once: I am Rozpacz. Call me by my deadname again and this conversation is over."

He won't continue until she acknowledges. She's already called him those names twice, one more and he'll leave her office for the gnoll's table. "Your doctor offended me. I rescind my offer to join." He says, and leaves the KABAL building never to return.

    ...

Unless, of course, by some miracle, she accepts his terms. "An assassination mission is planned, structured and ordered. All soldiers are expected to be disciplined. Yet, the outcome causes misery and chaos for certain parties. You need not concern yourself." He simply says.

"Very well. I wish you good fortune in your future endeavors. Ms. Tellysandra might still give you a call personally however, so do keep an eye on your phone. Have a nice day." The angel tells him before allowing him to leave. She wasn't perturbed in the least by how the interview went as there were too many questions with his story for her liking. Once he departs, she writes up the transcript of what happened, word for word, to email to Tellysandra along with her personal opinions of him.

    A few points I considered:

    A) I have no issues with nicknames or new names for people, but if he could not stomach being called a silly nickname or a name that he freely offered, then I do not think his temperament is suited to this organization. Also, has he read his Othello?

    B) He claims to be a General in rank, or had been at one time, but also mentions that he lead operations for a division of Special Operatives. While it isn't impossible, we're talking about a General committing acts of assassination and espionage in person.

    C) He's an operative that feeds off of chaos, misery, and despair. That alone is a reason I would not recommend him to be brought into the ranks of KABAL. He'd be more suited for AMEN than us.

However, I would recommend at least keeping his contact information and possibly considering using him as an outside contractor on a case by case basis. Someone to reach out to through intermediaries in an effort to keep his actions from being traced back to us.

The gnoll looks up from his book, sounding just about as enthusiastic as when Rozpacz first entered. "Okay." Then he can leave as the gnoll goes back to his book. He probably needed to tear up that application paper, but he could always do that later.

Meanwhile, Norael will get a message back from Tellysandra herself.
Good call, him having dual loyalties to a demon lord he didn't even want to introduce already raised red flags to me. I'll keep your recommendation in mind however, perhaps he can be of some use to us in the future.

"And there is nothing wrong with that per say, we are all products of our upbringing after all. Only by being exposed to something different can we move beyond our childhood." A beat. "Not in a literal sense of course, you are quite grown. I meant in the sense that I see the environment we grow up in as a metaphorical cradle that we never really leave can leave until we are exposed to something radically different. Only then can we really compare our cradle to something else and consider what it really is." She gestures at the market as they talk. "Now, your society taught you that slavery was bad but that being a soldier was good, correct? Only soldiers among your people, no civilians, that's what you said, isn't it? But consider this, there probably are a lot of soldiers here obeying the orders of these slavers. I can only speculate in their motives beyond monetary gains but what I do know is that all soldiers come across enemies that do not fight back. Civilians or surrendering warriors, and something must be done about them. So what do your people do? Keep them in camps? Let them roam free? Execute them? I'm sure you'd know what the soldiers around here would answer, indeed, some might even say its an preferable option to the alternatives." Ambrosia pauses, quirking her eyebrow. "Depends on the circumstances, doesn't it? Or do your people have a code in how to deal with such a situation too? I bet a lot of the slaves around here were directly or indirectly victims of war."

    [The Mad Fronts]

Ishmat kneels down to take a better look at the creation, reaching out a hand to touch it. "Fascinating! Now you have to tell how intelligent they are, specifically, how do they store and handle memory. Could you theoretically print onto them, say, scanned replicas of biologically stored memories?" She raises a finger. "Oh! And how do you make them obey orders? Are they simply programmed like robots, or are there other factors that influence them?" The ethereal sounds giddier by the second. "Since if you're giving this to Shazhan, that means I can borrow some of your design, yeah?" It's thankful that Affy is a man he is as this line of questioning might raise several red flags for more morally inclined people.

((We can probably time skip at some point. Siro is Telly's imp will show him around the place and tell him everything he's supposed to do. We could probably have later scenes with the gardener and the other inhabitants of the manor.))

The lead orc takes a blast of shotgun pellets to the chest, his civilian clothing proving no impediment to the projectiles. He goes down and starts to bleed, whilst the orc behind him ducks behind a wall and drops their unused taser, pulling a revolver out; an unusual pistol, the barrel fires from the bottom of the cylinder, not the top. He'll lean out from his cover and fires twice, whilst the other orcs stash their own non-lethal weaponry to grab the pistols they carry.

"A single, unique collector's item. That's what I offered to him, that is what I shall provide." Affy remarks with a smile, "If you copied it, you'd damage its value as a collector's piece, hmm?" A little mean of Affy, perhaps, but he's curious to see where the push-and-pull of power lies between Shazhan and Ishmat. What matters more to two of them? Shazhan's prize, or Ishmat's projects?

"Creations are made to think differently, but they do still have a brain, of sorts, and if you figured out how to effectively translate it you could write memories onto it."

"This particular example might be nearer to a robot in terms of its capacity for thought. I took, mmm, a number of precautions that were not necessary if I was not handing it over to someone else. It will obey the instructions of whoever Shazhan advises it to. It cannot communicate at the moment, but I can give it whatever means of communication would be appropriate if so desired." And possibly some precautions taken to protect his own inventions, but he's staying completely quiet about that. Can't give everything away now.

"They still have a, mmm, more typical biological system than your kind, but it's very flexible in design."

Thariza's tail sweeps back and forth and she snorts.

"I never really thought about it... again. My duties mostly involved fighting the ghosts of Ascalon. Who don't retreat, surrender or give any quarter. Sometimes I wonder if it wasn't a good thing for us. If the only reason the three High Legions didn't turn on each other was because the ghosts gave us a target to rally against."

He'll lean out from his cover and fires twice, whilst the other orcs stash their own non-lethal weaponry to grab the pistols they carry.

The man makes no effort to dodge so the bullets hit him. Both bulletes make a hole in the mans body which doesn't seem to bother him much. Around the edges of the holes they might see a goo like substanz dripping down instead of blood and the holes start to close shortly after. The man notice that the orcs are coming up he turns his weapon and shoots at the door trying to make a hole into it.

If that works and the hole is big enougth to push the shotgun through it, he will so so and follow up as he body melts becoming a slime substance which can just slide through the hole. Jaahlyn could easily run for it befor he can reform on the other side.

If it doesn't work he will aim at the orcs again looking around for an escape way.

What sort of cure. Anastasia says, her grasp not leaving Arkant's collar. She's barely restraining herself and it shows. Death? Or a real cure? The difference is important Arkant!
    Undead Bar

"Since when was death a cure?" Arkant asks in an annoyed way. "Sure I mean getting back to normal life. Whatever that life was."
For some reason Arkant doesn't seem to feat death at all. But he isn't foolisch to defend himself and maybe force her to end it.

There are more rooms on this level he could go into considering that he apparently can unlock any door, but as this is the fourth floor none of them actually lead outside. Unless of course he wants to jump out a window of course, but no standard humanoid would survive that fall. It's more than ten meters to the ground.

An alternative would of course be going back down the stairs. There is also the fire escape ladder of course but that one is behind the door to the room Jaahlyn is occupying.

    [Street of Slavers]

"So you have given it some thought then. Since that is a pattern I've seen being repeated in history books, as soon as the common enemy is defeated the allies start to turn on one another. But you are no longer a part of the legion, are you? So now that you've experienced a bit of this scholarly journey, do you believe there is something that can fill that lack of purpose you have after leaving it?" Ambrosia inquires.

    [The Mad Fronts]

"There is a difference between taking a copy and taking inspiration from." Ishamat points out. "And I might have become inspired by you, sir. I just need to figure out how to incorporate it into my own designs which would make it very different indeed, no reason for Shzhan to get worried." She pauses. "Speaking of which, I think he should be done about now."

Turning to the box, the ethereal puts her hand on it which causes a holographic keyboard to appear. She presses two buttons and finally Shazhan emerges from it in his fully bandage-bond form with hood and everything. "Just what model is this? That took far longer than usual, Ishmat." He remarks as he eyes them both. "And just what have you been discussing while I was out?"

Well, if a chest shot didn't work, then the orc will try a headshot with his odd revolver, or rather three headshots. He's not used to firing so many shots at one target with it; the Guild don't have much experience with bullet-resistant targets. Another orc has arrived nearby, but rather than shoot at the gooey man, he'll try to drag the orc that got blasted with buckshot out of the corridor and grab a bottle from inside his jacket, forcing it down the shot orc's throat. The healing potion isn't working very fast; and it's not intended for quite so many serious wounds.

Several other orcs are closing in with their own mix of pistols, but there's only so many that can fire at once through the doorway they're using as cover.

    Thariza sighs deeply.

"I haven't found something that'd speak to me as strongly as being a part of the Iron Legion did. I suppose I feel pretty good when I'm making something. Like weapons, tools or jewellery. But that's something I already did before. I guess looking for a purpose is a purpose on its own right now. I'm just doing my best to learn things. Does that make me a scholar?"

Anastasia drops Arkant back down. What do you need. She says, staring at him slightly livelier than she was before. It's not a high bar. Still, you have her attention.

"Hmm. Take care with how far your ideas take you, Ishamat." Affy replies with a somewhat sinister smile. "Just some ideas Ishamat had for your creation." Affy replies, nodding towards the metal blob. "How it works, how you control it, and so on."

"Nice meeting you, kid!" The elderly one remarks with a two fingered gesture before breaking into a sprint after blue-hood.
The rest of the group, as in the masked man and his group of thugs seem to have lost interest in the whole thing and are wandering off. Wonder what his deal was?
Fidelia may be a little awkward and indecisive on her words, but she certainly doesn't seem that way when it comes to reacting to vaguely-veiled death threats. If she were, she'd maybe stick around and question why the hell these self-righteous cutthroats weren't able to detect "tainted creatures" in their very midst, or even get a chance to watch said group lose interest and disperse. Rather than any of that, though, she instantly darts away into the cover of Skyside's various alleys and streets, moving with deftness and familiarity. She even doubles back and alters her route a few times to lose any pursuers before returning home.

Once back, she pauses for a breather, leaning against the door. Well, the meeting may not have been as fruitful as she hoped, but there was a lead... assuming they figured out how to reach her, at least.
