    Default Child Support (D&D 5E)

The Ruby Viper Order was, in its prime, the most well-known band of adventurers in the realm. Their exploits were known far and wide- felling the giant Makun before he could destroy the dam. Slaying the Kraken of Lake Trentus. Unseating the tyrant wizard Pharrion and destroying her army of the undead.

It was a shame that they didn't stay together. For some unknown reason, the Ruby Vipers split up some 17 years ago, the members seemingly falling out of contact with each other.

You have heard the stories yourself, growing up. Maybe you grew up idolizing them one way or another as a child. But little did you know that you were part of their legacy.

You find it hidden away. Somewhere nobody would think to look. A serpent-shaped brooch, with a Ruby set in the eye.

You confront your parents about it, ask them about their friends and compatriots, and get your answer- one member of the Order ran off with more than their share of the party's earnings, leaving your parents in not-quite poverty, but far less comfortably than they deserved to live. You set out to right this wrong. To find the final member and get what your family deserves.

Your search leads you to an even more startling discovery.

    System: D&D 5E
    Player Count: 3-5
    Style of Play: 60-80% roleplay, 20-40% Hack/Slash, 0-20% Puzzles
Allowed Content: Basic Handbook. Custom Backgrounds allowed.

    Character Creation:
    • Backstory: Skirt Length and open to some DM tweaking. Include a little about your parents as well, with your role in the party playing similarly to what they did. For example, a Druid's child may be the Cleric of a Nature diety, or a Wizard's child could be a sorcerer.
    • Experience: 2nd Level
    • Wealth: Starting Equipment for your class, plus 1/5 the starting Wealth (Monks get 1d4 GP, everyone else gets the standard, except multiply by 2 instead of 10)
    • Ability Scores: 30 Point Buy
    • Hitpoints/Health: Max at 1st and every odd level, average on even levels
    • Alignment: Non-Evil, be careful how you apply "Chaotic."
    • Race: Humans and half-humans preferred, but I wouldn't mind if you were to choose another race and just fluff yourself out as half-human (Feel free to ignore the compatible races list for this purpose, so long as the other race is humanoid).

    Other Notes:
If a roll requires multiple of the same die, you have the option of rolling a single die and multiplying the result.
You may post your mechanics in the thread, but your backstory gets PM'd directly to me.

Darn, I was interested up until basic handbook and human or half human only. I like my racial and subclass diversity

To clarify, is it full Player's Handbook, or only the Basic Rules (thus only allowing Cleric, Fighter, Rogue and Wizard)?

Also (and I'm making this clear in the OP as well) you don't technically only have to be a half-X or a human. You can be any race in the PHB stat-wise, but by fluff at least one of your parents must be human.

    Question for the DM:

I understand that itís basic PHB - Iím going to roll a paladin are you OK using the new rule change to Polearm Master allowing it to apply to spears?

Same stats as a Quarterstaff, just for flavor. Using a Quarterstaff isnít as cool as a spear

Makes sense to me. Go right on ahead.

For two, someone came to me asking to clarify what I meant by "Standard" Wealth, and looking into it, and based on the backstory, I made a small adjustment to that section.

PMd you the backstory. I'd like to elaborate, but I'll wait on start of game (if I make it) to make it more than skirt, if it'll matter. Till then, think I'm done.

Quick question, the backstory I'm going for is a knight embittered by the fact that his father, also a knight (and member of this adventuring group), abandoned him and his mother when he was young. Would that be an acceptable place to start from?

Is the intention that the PCs are kids or young teens?

The age range expected would be somewhere more older teen/ really young adult (by American standards at least) but if y'all want a teenagers game I can make it work.
