Default Pokemon Delta Emerald - OOC

Welcome to Pokemon World: Delta Emerald

This campaign is a game that follows the story of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald with the players replacing the main characters in their adventure.

Many things have been changed and/or added/removed to accommodate for this and allow for a smoother story.

The campaign uses the latest version of the Pokemon World RPG and Pokedex to allow for play-testing. We will be using the Gen 7 PTU Pokedex until further notice. All pokemon up to Gen 7 will be available in this campaign.

    Posting Requirements -

The GM will do their best to post at least once a week to keep the narrative moving. During combat the GM will do their best to post within 24 hours of each post. Players are asked that while out of combat to post within the time frame of 168 hours if they wish to complete an action or task. Players are required to post within 24 hours while in combat or risk forfeiting their turn.

Setting Information and General Rules -

-Any GM created move/ability/pokemon/effect has the possibility to be changed and reworked during the campaign should it be found to be over or under powered in scale to everything else.

    - All rolls will be made with Orokos and linked in players posts.

    - I ask that players refrain from looking at spoilers that are not for that player. Players may however discuss the contents of spoilers out of character.

    - Players may release 1 pokemon before they initiate a battle.

    - Pokémon vocalize in a manner appropriate to their physiology, they do not speak a somehow universal pokemon language consisting only of their name and parts thereof.

    - The GM reserves the right to take control of a players pokemon when deemed narratively appropriate, especially highly intelligent pokemon (i.e. Alakazam, Lucario, etc.).

    - The world runs on Light Anime Physics.

    - Evolution remains a hybrid Gamist/Narrativist construct. The instant a pokemon acquires sufficient experience to gain the level needed to evolve, their stats are adjusted to reflect their evolution. It is at the controlling player’s total discretion when this transformation takes place during the story.

    Spoiler: Example Evolution
    Show
Roger's Squirtle hits level 15 after a morning's exp training. Squirtle immediately gains the stat bumps/abilities/moves/etc. for evolving into wartortle. However, Roger decides he doesn't want his Squirtle to evolve from training. Fast forward a few hours, and Roger's Squirtle takes damage in a pokemon battle, and Roger decides it'd be really cool for his Squirtle to respond to the hit by getting up as a wartortle.

    - Gentlemen and Lady Agreement #1: Player Characters will not sit and wait for a KO’d pokemon to wake up and then attempt to capture it. (this is also considered Poaching)

    - Gentlemen and Lady Agreement #2: Player Characters will not keep their distance from a target and spam buff moves and abilities until they’ve maxed out their Combat Stages. (Caveat: if a slow moving pokemon is advancing on a target and using a buff move every round, this is acceptable)

    - Gentlemen and Lady Agreement #3: Players are not required to name every pokemon they catch. Players are required to name every pokemon that is a part of the active roster during a major plot point or gym battle.

    - Gentlemen and Lady Agreement #4: Players will not take actions that will cause long-term party splits, as this degrades quality for all involved.

    - A Player may invoke "The Danger Clause" during any Official or Friendly Pokemon Match (i.e. anything that is not a fight to the death). The clause may be invoked on any pokemon that falls to 20% (two ticks) of it's Normal Maximum HP or less. This Pokemon is then removed from the field as if it were fainted (i.e. Switching this pokemon out does not eat up Action Economy) and the Pokemon may not be sent back into the field during the same conflict without also Invoking the Desperation Rule. EDIT: For Clarity, Invoking the Danger Clause is causing your pokemon to be treated as having been Fainted for all intents and purposes, it would be considered poor form, at the very least, to have the wounded pokemon attack one more time, and then invoke the clause to pull them out.

    Spoiler: Example of Danger Clause
    Show
We have all (thankfully) fallen into the habit of including an OOC portion to our combat posts, helpfully and functionally translating the narrative elements of the game into simple mechanical bits such as "Trainer X activates [Feature] as a Standard Action. Pokemon X uses Hyper Beam" Etc.

The Danger Clause must be Explicitly Invoked in the OOC part of the post.

    Example:

Marc, seeing Ferroseed reeling from the enemy's attack, calls out to his ailing pokemon "Okay, that's enough, take a rest!" and replaces it with his Houndoom. "Go for the jugular!" he shouts

    Spoiler: Mechanics
    Show
Marc Invokes the Danger Clause on Ferroseed!
    Marc sent out Houndoom
Marc issued Brutal Orders to Houndoom as a Standard Action
Marc activated Duelist Tags against the enemy pokemon as a Swift Action.

    - A Player may not send a Danger Clause pokemon back into the battle, except by invoking The Desperation Rule

    Spoiler: Deperation Rules
    Show
A Trainer may, using the same format as invoking the Danger Clause, send in a pokemon with the Desperation Rule
Pokemon entering the battle via the Desperation rule gain an injury when they emerge on the field.

    - Attacking in 3 Dimensions: When checking range against a target that has changed altitude or depth from you, you simply check the altitude or distance of the target, whichever is greater is the range to the target. We're here to play Pokemon, not do the Pythagorean theorem

    Spoiler: Example
    Show
Sarus' Yanma is 8 hexes in the air, and 6 hexes away from a wild Nidoran.

The Wild Nidoran wishes to use Poison Sting on Yanma.

Sarus' Yanma is higher in the air than it is further away, so a Move must have Range 8 to hit the Yanma. Poison Sting is Range 8, and can be fired at Yanma.

    - Rules on Pokemon that are KO'd during a battle and when a pokemon is released - During a battle once a Pokemon is KO'd they are immediately removed from the initiative order. The KO'd pokemon is not recalled until the Trainer that owns the Pokemon's initiative. Then as a Free Action the Trainer may release a replacement Pokemon. This is how it will be run in the Delta Emerald Campaign.

    Spoiler: Example
    Show

    Initiative order is:
    Electabuzz - 12
    Eevee's Trainer - 11
    Electabuzz's Trainer -8
    Eevee- 5

Eevee is fainted and removed from the Initiative Order now making Electabuzz's Trainer last. Eevee is not recalled until until initiative count 11 and a new pokemon is not released until then as well.

So say that the Electabuzz had an interrupt on Eevee's turn that caused the Eevee to faint. After the Initiative resets Electabuzz would take their turn but unless they want to beat on an unconscious body they have no valid targets. On Initiative count 11 Eevee is recalled and replaced with a Geodude at Initiative count 3 not making the list as below.

    Initiative order is:
    Electabuzz - 12
    Eevee's Trainer - 11
    Electabuzz's Trainer -8
    Geodude - 3

Now at Initiative 8 where the Electubuzz's trainer acts they could take any trainer actions or initiate a full switch since a Geodude just entered the field against their Electabuzz.

Many of these have been brought you courtesy of big teej

Any questions players have about the campaign, whether it pertains to the story or game mechanics can and should be asked here!

This page will be updated as the game goes on

With the use of the PTU_Pokedex1.05.5 it has been brought to my attention that some pokemon have abilities that do not exist. If this is the case with a pokemon you own or catch, we will use the ability listed in the PTU_Pokedex1.05 instead. Please make sure that you are replacing said ability with the correct corresponding ability.

Question: are we expecting any more members to our band of intrepid adventurers? or is it going to be 3 people from Alomesa and 1 rando they pick up in Hoenn?

Tomorrow I plan to start the prologues for your characters. My plan to do so is to start with Julius, Ace, and Joanna, then move to Edward, Jeremy, and Kimiko. If our final player is able to join then I will go through their prologue before Edward, Jeremy, and Kimiko. Once all the prologue posts are finished we will begin the game officially. Is there anyone who does not want to play through the prologue please make a post now or forever hold your words.

Remember these prologues are so you the player can gain some knowledge about the world you will be playing in and make any final changes before the game officially begins.

During these prologues you will not start with your equipment. All you have is your Pokken and Pokemon.

Please post your Priority List of Pokemon as well

Here we'll do it this way, the people will get to choose their list in order that their character appeared on the Obsidian portal.

    So Order will go

    Ace's List
    Julius' List
    Joanna's List
    Edward's List
    Kimiko's List
    Jeremy's List
    Madelyn's List

Once a list is up you cannot choose any pokemon from the previous lists to be on your own.

2 questions I thought we should hash out well before they come up

    1) What are the Default Hoenn Battle Conditions/Assumptions (i.e. can Ace use Sunny Day? could he Intimidate the enemy pokemon? etc.)

    2) Fish, do they float?

    Answer 1 -
In a league sanctioned battle i.e a gym battle, tournaments and the default trainer v trainer battle the trainer can only use abilities that effect their pokemon and allied pokemon.

In case of confusion I will edit this post with classes that can and cannot be used in a league sanctioned battle.

    Spoiler: League Sanctioned Classes -
    Show
    Ace Trainer

    Cheerleader

    Chef

    Chronicler

    Commander

    Dark Ace

    Dragon Ace

    Duelist

    Electric Ace

    Enduring Soul

    Fairy Ace

    Psychic Ace

    Researcher

    Climatology

    Rock Ace

    Stat Ace

    Steel Ace

    Taskmaster

    Trickster

    Water Ace

Spoiler: Not League Sanctioned Classes -
    Show

    Answer 2 -
Fish float in water and only on land if they have a levitation speed.

During some gym battles, and for the Hoenn Championships the field can be changed to accommodate for water type pokemon. Some battling courts can also be changed allow for fish pokemon to swim.

So I would be correct in understanding that....

A Rider's Pokemon could not use Run Up
A Hunter's Pokemon could not use Pack Hunt or Teamwork
An Athlete's Pokemon could not have Training Regime applied
A Dancer's Pokemon could not use Dance Moves
A Hobbyist couldn't use *any* of their features/items gained through them, even if they would otherwise be on the allowed list?
A Survivalist's pokemon couldn't use Terrain based features
    etc.

    in an 'official battle'?

Since most if not all those abilities are applied outside of the battle and not during then no, they can still be used in a league sanctioned battle.

I do not plan on you always having separate catch encounters. I will be trying out different ways of doing encounters. So do not expect all encounters to be formatted the same way.

In the case of separate encounters like we have now, priority catches will work like this.

Players that have seen a pokemon have a chance to catch that pokemon. In the case a player shows a wild pokemon to another player or asks a player to join in on their encounter, then if any pokemon are on the new players list, they will have priority over catching that pokemon.

I understand that there are issues with this method, which is why I will be trying different styles of encounters for the players to allow things to run smoother, and that are more enjoyable for the players.
