    1. Spoiler
      Show
In ancient days before the curse of the desert there was a great Pharaoh who built for himself the most glorious a tombs and stocked it with all the wealth of his court that his afterlife might be as splendid as his reign.
      Spoiler
      Show
That Pharaoh's name is recorded as Amun-Re, Son of Takosh-Re of the House of Mo-Pelar.
      Spoiler
      Show
It is also said that in his final days Amun-Re blasphemed the gods and brought down the desert's curse upon his people.
    2. Spoiler
      Show
It is said that the bandits and cutthroats that call the desert home can move among the dunes like the passing of the wind.
      Spoiler
      Show
Some claim to have seen a great palace with spires made of gold which these murders call their home.
      Spoiler
      Show
According to these rumors the palace lies at the southern tip of the Desert of Desolation
    3. Spoiler
      Show
Sages tell of great obelisks in the desert covered in ancient hieroglyphs that tell the stories of the gods.
      Spoiler
      Show
Some believe that these stories have been so thoroughly corrupted as to have caused the gods to curse whoever so much as deciphers a single passage.
      Spoiler
      Show
None who has ever gone to study these monuments has ever returned
    4. Spoiler
      Show
There is an ancient prophesy concerning the Desert of Desolation told in verse:

When evil walks the land again,
Will Nomadic princes come to Set
His power into his first bride's hand,
That good and evil then are met.
      Spoiler
      Show
The poem has a second, lesser known verse:
      Then as needs be
      The Star Gems three
To my tomb be borne hither
And a hope shall not wither
Open the gates to my sphere of power
And put off evil in its appointed hour.
      Spoiler
      Show
Some believe this to be a prophesy they foretells not just the fate of the desert, but that of the entire world.
    5. Spoiler
      Show
While it is said that men do not travel lightly into or back from the great desert, rumors of its wealth have attracted the attentions of older and more powerful things than mortals. The great blue dragon Athuraxx is said to have made his lair somewhere in the dunes.
      Spoiler
      Show
While stories of dragons might be flights of fancy it is said that something unnatural stalks the dunes, with the power to dull the senses and shut the eyes of men and elves.
      Spoiler
      Show
Creatures are not the only dire threats in the desert. Its ancient curse has poisoned earth and sky cause the sands to hunger and the rains to burn.
    6. Spoiler
      Show
The last great Pharaoh of the desert kingdom is said to have brought the curse upon his land through greed and cruelty, but even after his death the people still worshiped him, for the curse gave him power beyond the grave.
      Spoiler
      Show
It is said that the Pharaoh waged great wars and brought home mighty spoils, but became terrified of having his resting place plundered after his death so he threatened his own people with terrible powers.
      Spoiler
      Show
For his hubris the gods cursed him and his kingdom. A curse that can only be broken if his tomb is emptied of its treasures
    7. Spoiler
      Show
Supposedly, in the heart of the desert, there is a tomb that is completely proof against all forms of theft.
      Spoiler
      Show
It is said that the Star Gems are sealed within
      Spoiler
      Show
The Star Gems are a set of three gems of unimaginable value which play a role in an ancient prophesy of evil's return and downfall.
    8. Spoiler
      Show
Many thousands of years ago, right around the time that the Desert of Desolation was cursed the Lord of Evil Efreeti went missing. Some say he made a pact with the Pharaoh of the desert but was double crossed.
      Spoiler
      Show
The entity's name has been lost to time but his titles include the Lord of Elemental Fire, Master of Black Magic, and Sultan of Sin.
      Spoiler
      Show
Since his disappearance the Efreeti have faired poorly against their cousins the Dao, the Djinn, and the Marids.
    9. Spoiler
      Show
Legends say that in the days just before the curse the kingdom of the desert waged long and bitter war upon all of its neighbors.
      Spoiler
      Show
These wars are supposed to have brought the nation great wealth in the form of plunder from a dozen capitals.
      Spoiler
      Show
Some scholars believe that these unjust actions are what brought the wrath of the gods down upon the kingdom of the desert.

Talgrun will use Fire Brick for his dialog. Appropriate, since we're all going to be baking on this adventure. As for the mount, I'll take a camel.

Edit: And I'll also take a camel

The camel idea seems wise, but I almost want to buck wisdom and go with a horse. Screw it. Wisdom check.

I'll take a camel and I will speak like this (the same as all other PbPs, so it's easy for me)

EDIT: what if you roll a 10? I only see 9 entries. Can I choose one?

Looks like Talgrun is front line, Azrael and I are flankers, and 2 archers and a sorcerer. Should be interesting. How often are we expected to post?

Keep in mind Azrael also has the Luminous Armor spell for extra +5 AC as well as the ability to rage 2/day so he can probably also be considered front line. I haven't cast Luminous Armor yet (so it's not boosting my AC yet) because 6 hours isn't quite long enough to cast at the start of the day but it is long enough that once I cast it it will be there for all encounters. I didn't want to prepare 2 because i figure you guys probably want me to prepare as many cure spells as possible

Amusingly enough Talgrun is actually geared more towards archery, but given the group composition he's probably better suited for the front line than most of us.

Llwellyn is definitely primary archer, but with a 16 strength he can hold his own on the front line if he needs to. I tried to build him so that he could be flexible as needed. Plus his elven hound is pretty baller.

Also, are we ok to start with spells cast on us? If so, Endure Elements is on Llwellyn and Allynna (via Share Spells). It's hot out here, and forest elf ain't happy.

Since you're the only one with cure spells, yes please.

I can do both ranged and close combat (giving flanks and sneak attack mostly).

Keep it for the first who fails his/her fortitude check. Better that way.

I've added number 3 to the list of rumours I've learned up front. Quite interesting I must say, although probably more for one of my other PbP characters.

I see we've got a bunch of survival skills, going to be quite handy in the desert.

Azrael would also try, but only when the Sun is back up. No chance of getting a proper insight when god is resting ;)
