Obviously very tentative, but a heads-up for Kaio in particular and people in general.

    Amity Reserve Station

    Region F20
    Formerly Empty Space

    Spoiler: Region History
    Show
The swath of space in-between the Droccen capital and the Ndoda capital is a barren expanse that lacks habitable planets or hospitable stars. The region was discovered concurrently by NDA and DCC expeditions, sparking a series of negotiations that ultimately led to DCC claiming the territory in exchange for their support in building the necessary infrastructure needed to produce and maintain trade in the region. From the negotiations, strong bonds of friendship were forged between the two galactic societies and eventually led to the signing of the NDA-DCC Alliance. Since the treaty, Droccen officials have assured that Ndoda traders and merchants have first choice of the myriad goods that can be found withing Droccen's expansive borders.

Droccen surveyors worked in accordance with Ndoda specialists to identify possible lucrative minerals on the dark astral bodies within the region. Several mineral and metal candidate samples were procured and sent back to Ndoda space for study. Once the desired resource was identified, plans were then made for a permanent space station to house the future mining colonies and merchant guests and inspectors. Along with the space station, a mobile refinery was also built so that the precious minerals could be refined on the spot and shipped directly to the buyers. Construction of the Amity Reserve Station took over six years and a grand opening celebration was held for the prospective residents, attended by Empress Sai and illustrious council members.

    Spoiler: Current
    Show
The Amity Reserve Station is a large rotating wheel habitat that has the room to house up to five hundred thousand permanent inhabitants but is not yet operating at full capacity. Each mining team has their own district within the habitat, but contact between colonies is not regulated. Besides housing, Amity Reserve Station also boasts several schools, restaurants and medical facilities as well as community green spaces. What Amity provides for its residents is supplemented by shipments of goods from DCC. Manufactured goods and medicine, are chief among the required imports for the space station.

Along with the miners and their families, the Space Station houses farmers, engineers, teachers, scientists, medical staff and retail workers. Governance of Amity Reserve Station is by Imperial appointment, confirmed by the Legislative Council. The current Commandant is a retired Naval Captain, Akiro Koga who is famed for overseeing the training of the Grandma Guardian squadron. The Mobile Refinery Station, which has come to be as Mors by the locals, houses mining teams in two week shifts where they work two weeks in the refinery or out in the field, and then have two weeks off back on Amity.

    Spoiler: Resource
    Show
Despite being known as the Barren Expanse, the region is not without heavenly bodies or worth. Dark asteroids and planetoids dot the expanse and valuable minerals litter the surfaces and delve deep veins of ore into the dense rocks. Mining ships deploy from the refinery and teams will spend days on an excursion to collect as much bilithium ore as the highly trained miners can under the harsh conditions of deep space. The raw ore is then transported to the refineries where the team then works to extract the bilithium crystals from the space rocks. Though much of the refining process is automated, what isn't is still grueling labor and only the hardiest of Droccen are fit to become bilithium miners.

Bilithium is a unique mineral that has two states, large metallic crystal and thick viscous liquid. The large metallic crystals are separated from rock debris during the refinement process and are very hard and brittle. Bilithium’s second state was discovered by accident by an Amity Reserve Station research team who went on to win the Droccen Innovation Prize in Science for their discovery. It was found that by exposing the bilithium crystals to a specific vibration frequency, the mineral can be transformed into a thick liquid state that resists evaporation. Bilithium is conductive and stores energy well, as long as being an attractive slate blue that is popular for use in jewelry and home decor.

    Resource (Precious Mineral):
    Bilithium (Good)

I was unsure how much I should right for an empty sector so let me know what else you'd like to know about it, if anything!

    Region Write-Up for Q17

    Spoiler: Summary
    Show

    System: Taurina II

    Resource Centres:
    Resource: Glow Wheat [Good]
    1. The Stone Mill
    2. The Scythe’s Arm
    3. The Field of Dreams

    Learning Centre: The Granite Cathedral

    Spoiler: Region
    Show

Dubbed Taurina II by the Rothuun who conquered it, the region is composed of two agricultural planets orbiting a neutron star. The star is leaking radiation at an immense rate, which causes all objects in the system to glow slightly. Beneath the fields of wheat and grass and a thin layer of sandy soil lies a core of granite stone. The planets are surrounded by rings of asteroids, which occasionally break free of the orbit and slam into the surface.

    Spoiler: People
    Show

It was formerly occupied by an ancient empire which built mills, churches, and villages on the surface. All this changed, however, with the arrival of the Same from the west. The Same destroyed this culture and drove its people to extinction. No trace of the former owners of this planet remains, other than the buildings they constructed. The larger planet is now populated by colonizing Rothuun, along with Ogatvezhiy from Baryshev brought along as slaves. The smaller is mostly depopulated, except for a handful of Duenem expatriates.

    Spoiler: Government
    Show

The current ruler of Taurina II is Muuna Bearslayer, a Phakhuun veteran of the Ogatvezhiy wars and of the battle to drive the Same from this region. She is a cruel, hard taskmaster whom has been set the unenviable task of turning this abandoned region into a suitable place for Rothuun to colonize. She is attended by a horde of similarly inclined individuals, many of them former followers of Aneb Two-Gun.

    Spoiler: Resources
    Show

The main characteristic of Taurina II are huge, planet-wide fields of wheat. This grain, which has spent thousands of years soaking up radiation, glows faintly in the dark. Despite its odd luminous qualities, consuming bread made from this product is perfectly safe and provides as much nutrients as a comparable loaf of made from normal grain, with the minor side effect of temporarily glowing eyes.

This doesn't matter in this instance because it's late and wouldn't affect the outcome, but how is the +11 bonus calculated? You had D10, and all the claim-relevant bonuses appear to be +2, apart from the +1 bonus for inquesting a region, which didn't apply in this region and only applies in the first round of a claim anyway.

There's no calculation set out in the IC post, so was this a mistake or am I missing something in the rules?

Also, I shouldn't tell you this because we are more or less enemies IC, but generals are 1d4+6 and you rolled 1d6+4 so you did yourself down there.

I don't doubt your integrity (OOC, at least; IC the Syndrome seem to have gone full Fake News), but I do think it's useful for these things to be as transparent as possible. If it's a tech, then fine, if you've taken secret actions to give you a +1 bonus that's fine, if you have an organisation giving you a claim bonus and that only counts for +1 then ok, if the GMs have ruled that because you succeeded in the first round and Role wasn't claiming then, you get a +1 bonus to the second round, then that's ok I guess (although some of those circumstances should probably be put in the rules, if applicable).

But given that this is a bonus that is available to and affects other players, I think we need to know at least the nature of it if not the specifics, as much as anything else to know whether it's replicable: if other players can get it, I think they need to know that, and if they can't I think they need to know whether this is a permanent bonus for you or a one-off.

It is not replicable, other players can get it, and only one player can have it at a time. I think that answers your questions sufficiently without totally spilling my secrets.

    Reggie:

Your post in the event thread seems to imply knowledge of the Rothuun succession. The transition of power is an OOC knowledge. In character, there is no implication that the current Urthuun could be in danger of replacement, and it would not make a lot of sense for your character to say so.

I'm happy to rectify any incongruities but if this is the case I regret I'm a bit confused on what my action last round was to support Aneb. Is it usual for Rothuun warlords under their Urthuun to seek out much less receive foreign support in their internal political campaigns? I don't think IC UPT would have invested in Aneb's war if they didn't believe it was a lead up to his seizure of legitimate power so I'm a bit confused on what the IC/OOC line regarding the succession here should be interpreted as.

OOC, it is clear that these actions are building up to the seizure of power by one of the successors to the current Urthuun. IC, there are two minor political "disputes" occurring right now, and the competitors are seeking foreign support to win their respective competitions. Your action to support Aneb could be fluffed as helping him try to defend his position as King of Thurtal and defeat the pretender Virtash, with the goal of grooming him into a potential successor when the current Urthuun dies and a power vacuum opens.

Oh yeah, might be worth mentioning that the Urthuun serves for life. So an IC squabbling between "successors" would be tantamount to supporting the current leader's assassination.

    Hope this helps!

I don't believe I've misinterpreted anything then and would stand by my statements as made in the event. While the narrator/PoV commentary regarding "competition among pretenders to her throne" is explicit in its treating the 'disputes' as contests heralding a change in leadership I do imagine IC the Symbraum would view it in this raw political light. I would imagine it would be somewhat obvious to Kzarna that foreign powers getting involved in her worlds' internal politics was of more significance than some naive investment in galactically meaningless internal politics like who gets to be King of Thurtal.

The actual dialogue spoken out loud by my representative of "Does the political turmoil we have heard rumor of demand no greater attention? Truly yours is a powerful leadership that does not concern itself with the machinations of underlings to seize power." could be read not only as an IC/OOC commentary on the leadership succession but IC as a reference to the 'disputes' ongoing under Urthuun Kzarna's nose to seize power not explicitly from her but for themselves regardless of whether they were or were not precursors to a coup and seizure of the Urthuun title. My representative rather intended to express surprise that the Urthuun was present at an international meeting given the political unrest back home and if that's taken as a slight so be it but in my opinion the actual IC spoken dialogue so far is not explicit in calling these squabblers "successors."

Putting this here so I don't forget to do it later...

The Conclave of the Black Sun, the Supreme Courts of Amanyk and the Viceroy acting in the stead of the Undying Sovereign, Her Glorious and Most Eternal Majesty Narisa Velrey-Aman, do hereby declare in concordance that a state of war shall henceforth exist between Amanyk and the Kronin due to the latter's decision to support the treacherous Brewers of Antillia. This is in despite of assurances by His Illustrious Majesty, Krazkul, King-General of Kronzar, that they had no such intentions, a promise further secured by an agreement he had made with the Conclave.
The Conclave regrets that they see no other options available at this time. Blood has been spilled by the Antillians and no price is sufficient to wash away the stain it has left upon the Tal-Amanyn. The King-General is urged to reconsider though the Conclave will not hold back in the vain hope of a last minute armistice. All who aid the Kronin in this endeavour are to be considered enemies of Amanyk and the Undying Sovereign and all are urged to sever ties with the treacherous Kron.
So sayeth the Conclave as One. So sayeth the Supreme Justices in Accord. So sayeth the Viceroy for the Sovereign.
    So sayeth Amanyk.

I've been lurking here since the end of E4, and I'm not too close to the omni situation. However, my own experiences with the OOC/IC divide have taught me to err on the side of caution and to be as clear as possible when I switch between IC and OOC.

In E1, we had the Sunset War. In very brief, we had a world war, hostility IC became hostility OOC and led to a level of toxicity so vile and thick that we had battle edits within minutes of round close. While not the only instance of players ****ing each other OOC and IC, it was easily one of the biggest and as I recall many blame the Sunset war for the final death of E1. The Sunset war left a massive rift between two major player factions that, as far as I'm aware, has never healed.

In E4, I used a secret action to take one of the dragon artifacts that both Gengy and Dark (my allies at the time) had been after. We discussed who it could've been, and Gengy and Dark asked me point-blank if I'd taken it. I said no, intending my answer to be more IC than OOC. The two of them remarked that I was the most likely suspect, but if I said I hadn't, then I hadn't. I then remembered how awful the Sunset war and other OOC **** had gone during these games, and so I backtracked and just told them flat-out that I'd done so. I trusted them to be good players about it and not suddenly start pointing fingers at me like they knew. I don't think that either of them would've been particularly incensed if I just hadn't told them, but I erred on the side of caution.

I also spent a fair amount of time DMing largely IC diplomatic conversations with another player which was often more frustrating than it needed to be. Mostly because his realm was pretty damn prideful and so his convo came off as looking down on me. It was difficult to deal with right up until the point where we both started talking OOC, and clarified that his sneering contempt and my evasive pretty little lies were both IC elements only.

Just observations. At the end of the day, Empire has competitive elements but it is not meant to be a competitive game.

    Spoiler: History
    Show
Were it not for the Svaatyrn campaign of utter annihalation against the sun wolves, Argaurite might never have been discovered. Nestled in a cradle of nebulae, and bathed in the light of birthing stars, scouts hunting down a straggler spied a single planet. To the scanners it was lifeless, and yet, on the surface, the Vox-Fasel piloting the craft noticed the movement of lights, and in a way that couldn’t be explained by mere reflections.

Upon silvered sands did they find the Arvita. From their legends was their past pieced together - A legacy of the callers, an experiment by one of their ai in an attempt to truly understand life, by creating it themself. Perhaps concluded, perhaps abandoned, perhaps watched still, the Arvita do not know. Since their society came into being, there has been no word from their silent creator.

    Spoiler: People
    Show
To call the Arvita machines is to do them a gross disservice - though metal, their bodies eat, breathe, grow, sleep and age as would any organic being. Generations upon generations had been born and died upon Argaurite. Their general form is humanoid, though only the most casual of glances would mistake one for an organic being - with skin and even hair rendered in metallic shades of white, black, copper, silver and gold (with blues, greens and reds added for hair). The eyes, however, provide the clearest difference. Like all of the Arvita’s organs, the eyes are fully mechanical, a complex machine replicating the biological counterpart’s function. The heart, a battery. The stomach, a minature foundry. All recreated in loving detail. They consume comparatively little physical food, requiring such sustenance only for growth and repair - energy is consumed vampirically via their fang like teeth.

The Arvita are gendered, each able to provide half of the creation matrix that will construct a new Arvita. In a cruel twist which none know if intention or mistake, each possesses only one. Thus, each generation is smaller than the last, and the Arvita are a people in twilight and decline… were it not for the existence of the Vox, whose unique breeding makes them compatible even with the Arvita, and bypassing their innate limit. For the first time, the Arvita have hope that they might yet endure.

    Spoiler: Region Description
    Show
Argaurite lies in an unusual stellar location - it does not orbit a single star, but hangs equidistant between a trio of young stars that on paper seem to orbit the planet, rather than the reverse. While this is untrue, the stars that dance around it do serve to hold it suspended in place - and give it an unusual day/night cycle, where a single day contains three daytimes and three nighttimes. The thick nebula in the region affords the sky of the planet a faint shimmer, like a permanent heat haze, while ghostly red tendrils snake across the sky. The atmosphere is breathable to most organisms, but has a metallic tang to it, not unlike the taste of blood, and it would struggle to sustain organic life by itself. Among other things, the planet is barren of water, lakes rivers and rains made of a thin golden oil-like substance with a similar boiling point to water (though it freezes much colder).

Much of the planet lies abandoned - as the Arvita shank in size, they required less and less space, with whole cities left to ruin and be reclaimed by metallic jungles. While living metal plants exist, no animals do. In their home, the Arvita are truly alone.

    Spoiler: Government
    Show
Despite the age of their civilisation, the Arvita on the whole live simply, in a largely agarian lifestyle. What government still remains resides in the capital city of Cadminire, providing what management is required, alongside the handful of scientists that still held onto hope of discovering a way to artificially produce a creation matrix. Officials are technically elected, but few enough go for the roles that most are won by default.

    Spoiler: Philosophy
    Show
Though Svaatyr had expected a people so tied to the callers to follow the One, they were pleasantly surpirsed to find a people who held no strong spiritual beliefs at all. Abandoned at birth, they had grown without influence, and in fact resonated well with the Nolkir, whose creators had also allowed them to develop as they themselves saw fit.

    Spoiler: Resource
    Show
The plants that sustain the Arvita proved to be of great scientific interest to Svaatyr - each was, in essence, a minature self replicating solar power plant, with a surprisingly high battery capacity, while also producing oxygen. While many people pointed out this also described a normal plant, the conversion rate is significantly higher than their carbon based equivalent, and the regenerative abilities of thier metal flesh holds potential for further study and adaptation. Whoever first named them Power Plants has as yet managed to evade detection, and thus punishment. (Metal/Fuel)

It is done. You will face Moos (Moos is the best). Whoever wins will face Ausar. You may roll whenever. And I promise to check OOC. the number to beat is 14.

I'm actually going to propose Ivor just do the rest of the rolls to save time instead of playing tag. It's late in the round and people have robust timezone spreads and varying activity times.

Moos, I may have taken some liberties with our fight so feel free to comment/revise/etc.

Ayaka follows a version of the Chivalric Code so basically if Caranus yields she'll let him go without further ado, and if not she'll cut his head off.
