    [Entrance]

A woman wearing a bespoke three piece tweed suit with a blue necktie arrives at the party. Her mask is a very detailed image of a man's face. Bronze skin, dark brown hair and beard, mouth painted blood red in a faint smirk, and a golden crown with a large pentacle in the center. She bows to the host and makes her way deeper into the garden.

    "Fae" lady

"Eeek!" Sekhmet jumps as she realizes the fae is sitting next to her. "Oh, uh," she continues after he introduces himself, fumbling for a pseudonym, "Melody. Melody Raven," she concludes, "A pleasure to meet you." His complement makes her beam, but maybe not as much as it would if they were really hers.

    Going on a Tour

Lady Arachne nods. I believe if you attach the spider to a suitable computer it should be able to accept data. If you will go through that gate past the kitchen area, you should find a variety of costumes, several including armor or able to accommodate it underneath.
It would be best if all security wore masks. There are spider tabards for those openly identified as security. Personnel will need an obsidian spider to pass the gate into the private area.
She pauses, looking at Electra for a moment. We should be starting soon - if you need anything else just press down on the spider and ask.

Two more guests show up staggered from each other by a few minutes. Human looking women roughly the same height at about 5'6". The blonde wears a strapless green dress that shows off her shoulders. Particularly noteworthy is the ink on her left shoulder in the shape of an artistic spider's web. She wears a mask depicting a dove upon the bridge of her nose to cover her upper face. The brunette wears a more striking red dress with a powerful and daring v in the front. Her mask is that of a stylized hawk.

Both give the hostess her due, politely returning greetings in kind and bows of their own before moving deeper into the groves.

In the meantime he might notice the inside of the grove is completely bare, except for the sigil in which he just arrived and a very large metal shed on one side.
Oh look, it's a Magtok. He's mostly content to just stand around and twiddle his thumbs for now, though if he's made to wait longer than like three minutes, he'll be drawn by curiosity towards the shed. It would be very rude of him to just swing the door open and snoop around inside, but if a passing breeze Magtok's foot just happened to nudge the door open, and he just happened to peek inside for a moment, that wouldn't get him into any trouble, would it?

Guess what? Yeah more people arrive.
The first one is a woman. She appears to be in her early 20ties if not just old enougth to drink. She wears a tight black dress, which doesn't reveal much skin at all. Her dark blond hair is bound together to a braid and she wears a silver/gold mask over her eyes. She formly greets the host and heads straight for the snacks. Taking on that dress was far to long and she didn't eat much befor. Hopefully they got at least some fingerfood ready soon.

The other person is a bit more exotic. The man coming through the mirror is around 6' high. Two horns emerge from his head between his dark green hair and a few sharp theet show unter the golden mask. Around his neck are several green scales visible which also appear on the leather like wings on his back. The man wears a very common kind of suit, still not a cheap one. his hands also show some green scales and his thinger look nearly like claws.
As he makes his first steps into the new ground a sudden musik appears around him. He immediatly starts waving in the air like this way he can make it stop and yes after a bit of time the musik ends. With a relieved sight he goes on, making a shot greet to the host and then going futher around.

You flatter me. A lady such as yourself surely noticed my approach, Melody Raven. There's a certain way he says her pseudonym that makes it sound fake. Even faker than Sekhmet might have thought it would. No one would ever believe it was her real name, surely? He's just humouring her. Shall we head in? I'm sure the seats will be more comfortable, and we wouldn't want to intrude upon our host for too long. He draws himself to his full height, offering her a hand to help her stand.

    Number of guests is increasing...

There's a fairly human-seeming woman, not even five feet tall, with straight black hair and nails painted dark.
Her dress is fire, trailing sparks and the colors flickering and flowing along the slight curves of her body.
Her mask is a skull, with mirrored lenses to hide the eyes.

She gives Lady Arachne a solid nod, commenting that "This looks like a lovely party, I mean, I hope we'll see more of you at it." How sad if the hostess were just out here greeting people the whole time.

This next guest strolls in without a care in the world, giving the hostess a jaunty wave. "Lovely garden you have here." Tonight she's not an exiled princess facing an impossible task to save her ungrateful kingdom. The clock is stopped, and there's nothing ahead but to enjoy the summer celebration.
She's wearing nothing but dancing shoes, a white bow-tie, and of course the mask, a purple-feathered carnival piece.

Oh, and she's a giant huntsman spider, a dozen feet across if she stretched her legs out, with a pale golden exoskeleton, two big eyes front and center and six smaller ones in triangles off to the sides. Not to be confused with the little serving spiders.

She winds up in one of the clear dance-hall groves, circling around to get a look at everyone.

    The Mercenary

Cantata stiffens in surprise as Arthes suddenly appears and clasps her arm, turning her head in surprise. She blinks for a second before an apologetic smile reaches her eyes, and she raises her hand to respond with a "so-so" gesture. Stepping back and gently slipping her arm away, she returns the greeting with a simple curtsy.

The dilapidated shed door is held shut by a very simple latch. The inside holds a disorganized array of various boxes and barrels, with labels that say things like "potassium nitrate" and "elemental sodium". There are also quite a variety of various metal items in varying states of disrepair. Of course, if Magtok is poking around too much, he might not notice the quiet approach of the hostess behind him until she clears her throat.

Electra nods, and reaches into her bag to withdraw one of the spiders that Lady Arachne sent to MERC ahead of time. She hasn't messed much with it, but now tries to connect to it using her internal comm suite. If she's able to do so, she should be able to upload the data file she has of all of those who committed to being security for the party to Lady Arachne's systems. She'll leave the connection open as well, so that she can use the device's comm functions as an extension of her own comm suite, which will let her speak to other MERC operatives without speaking herself, and allow her to hear them in her head.

"I think we should be fine, though if there is anything else you need from us, please let me know and I'll do my best to make it happen."
Why is it Plan A is always, "Get 'Em!" and Plan B is, "Cause as much collateral damage as possible"?

    [Outside the Ball, Watching]

    Spoiler: Choir being a creeper
    Show
She had been observing for some time now.

Getting into the human city had been easy, now that she knew how to make an aggregate that looked human. Some of the others had been suspicious of her, she was sure. She didn't quite understand the nuances yet. She didn't know how to act like them. She tried, but... but without the ability to take communion with a human, how was she supposed to learn such things? Through observation. Through painful trial and error. She wanted to learn. They had so many useful things to teach her.

Now that she knew more about their anatomy and what that tumor of neurons inside their skull was for she had tried to take communion with a human on two occasions. Twice. Both in secluded places. Both alone. No one had seen, she was sure. Hunting was a skill she was well practiced in. And this new camouflage served her well. The first she tried to merge with herself. Their flesh was consumed, but little more. They had merely perished, their mind and self extinguished. The second she been more careful with, merging their neuron-tumor directly with her own analog. That was... slightly more promising. But she couldn't comprehend the information she had acquired. No new voice was added to her choir. Communion had failed.

The loss of the two humans, two minds, two others, she felt something... They hadn't been wasted, no. They had provided her with enough substance to make another pair of human-shaped aggregates. But the loss of their voices somehow struck her as perverse. She could endure so easily, but these little mewling sacks of water ceased to be at the slightest provocation, their only hope for the future in the creation of others that were half-them.

Had she done something wrong? She wasn't sure. She knew that she didn't want her self to go extinct like that. The thought terrified her. Though it was only a vague, distant threat now that her many bodies were flourishing again. Those humans feared extinction of self, just like she did. It was why they struggled so ferociously against it.

Maybe... maybe she shouldn't attempt communion with any more humans until she's SURE their voices would be added to her choir. Then she could save them from aloneness. From the bleak, apathetic grip of oblivion. They could live on in her. That would be better. That would be right.

    So...

    She watched.

She had learned several new things while watching.

The humans came in two broad categories. Some were like her, generally speaking. Smaller. Curvier. Others were larger. Broader. With the hair growing from their faces, like those in the book she had found. Mustaches and beards, the book had called them. Humans came in sexes. And the two sexes were different. This was strange. Another alien feature to understand. Once she made the connection, she paid closer attention to the smaller, curvier ones. The ways they moved. The skins they wore. The plates they placed over their faces. The ornaments they hung on themselves. And once she was certain, she called many of her small bodies to herself and fashioned them in the likeness of the skins the humans wore. She was ready to discover where the humans were going.

    [Masque Entrance]

She tentatively touched the mirrored surface and watched it ripple under her fingers.

So strange. Humans made so many strange things. The thought that, perhaps some day, she would learn how to make such wondrous things excited her.

The woman in the mirror was human. She had learned how to subdue the dayglow orange eyes, now they were merely a striking shade of amber-brown. Her rusty brunette hair was still shot through with strands of black and red. Her skin was still a delicate shade of cream, though she had fixed the texture. It all looked... natural. She was sure. The dress draped over her, of modest cut and burnt orange hue, kept close enough to leave little to the imagination. It had an almost pearlecent sheen, leaving it to shimmer and shift like water. A deep red scarf hung about her neck, clasped with a broach with an eight-petaled floral pattern in ivory, an intense violet gem grasped at the center of the petals. On her face, covering to her nose, a velvet red mask with wide, sweeping crescent-shaped crests reaching back from the cheekbones.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Choir felt... something. She wasn't sure what the something was. She felt... confident? No, it was something else. Something she couldn't identify.

She stepped through the mirror and into the grove beyond. For a time, there, she watched. She watched how all the humans and the... other things... behaved. She didn't want to do something wrong. And she would act once she was sure.

Anri would be very hurt to be referred to as an "it" despite her slightly-glowing magitech body. There's no loud moving parts or signs of electrical power. Nor is there any sound of sloshing when she moves despite the amount of liquid her body would have to be carrying to fuel all the taps built into her chassis.

But if the lady in the mask does not voice her questions, she'll simply be served a drink with a smile.

The seemingly sincere apology throws Sekhmet off, although she still feels weird about Gruffydd "I do not wish to be touched." It would be easy for him to uncover her disguise if he touched her in the right place.

    She watched.

    And she listened.

The others acted in a mostly predictable way.

They moved close to one called 'Host' and then inclined their upper body at her. Some of them exchanged words with the Host. Other didn't. Choir heard the word 'masque' and 'party' several times. From the context, she suspected that a gathering of humans of this sort was either a masque or a party. Maybe both. She still wasn't sure what the purpose of a party was. Some nuance of making fellowship with others that she has yet to grasp. But maybe if she listened and watched, she would gain understanding. If she stood here, though, at the threshold, she would learn little. She needed to act on what she had learned thus far.

She waited for a group of other humans to approach the Host and she joined them, mingling with the crowd. She bowed when they bowed. She repeated some of the words she had listened for.

"The party is lovely. I adore the decor."

Choir wasn't sure what a party was, yet. Or what love, and by extension, lovely meant. She vaguely understood that 'adore' implied that she found something pleasing. But a different sort of pleasure than the satisfaction she gained from feeding. There was a nuance she was missing. Decor had something to do with spiders. Choir knew what spiders were. She had eaten many in the past. Was it important to spread many large spiders around for the duration of a masque?

Ritual done, she quickly moved past the Host to mingle with the others. There were many humans here. And a machine with... music? Like the music from the machine in the human hive. A machine shaped like a human on top of a spider. Spiders were very important to maintaining the decor, Choir had concluded. What else? Two humans fellowshipping. One appeared to be in distress, but the other pressed on. A human with... wings? Choir hadn't ever seen a human with wings before. If she had known wings were acceptable human anatomy, she wouldn't have shed her own. But regrowing them here in plain sight would likely cause the humans distress. Before she took any further action, she needed to learn more of the words the others exchanged here.

    She watched.

    And she listened.

    [Dena and company]

Dena wasn't intending to act security, but she would be at the party nonetheless though more as a guest than anything else.
Her choice of attire very much made this clear as the dress she had picked for the occasion hugged her curves. It seemed she had not picked a costume and just went with a mask, the same one she had worn at the Malechenar party along with its other golden ornaments.

"Bet you a drink that we'll find at least three of your 'friends' here tonight, Tina. You have a way of finding the most attractive people." She tells her +1 of choice. It had been a while since she hanged out with Tina and she was worried this whole curse thing would lead to a depression or something so this felt like a good way to cheer her up.

    "Fae" Lady

Well that does rule out some of the more... entertaining activities we might engage in. Gruffydd says from his bow, before rising up with a winning smile. But I've always been inventive. Do you dance, Melody Raven? He asks, taking a couple steps toward one of the dance floors, flamboyantly gesturing toward it.

    The Mercenary

Well don't let it be said that I'm not accommodating. Arthes says, taking Cantata over to one of the quieter areas, where food might eventually be served. It also happens to have a good view of the entrance sigil, without many good sightlines onto where they're standing besides that. Who should I be on the look out for, hm? Oh, or maybe we've passed them already? She makes sure to keep a hold of Cantata's arm as she speaks, feeling for any tension that might give away the truth. A former lover, perhaps? Oh this is fun.

    Gawking

Isn't she fun? The suited woman will find next to herself the first two women described here. The shorter woman leans in close as she continues, dropping down into a faux whisper that the drider can almost certainly hear. What do you think she is, really? Bit of a strange shape for a golem. The tall woman with her rolls her eyes, reaching out to place a hand on the suited woman's shoulder as she speaks. Don't let her stir you up. I am Saffir, and this is Tanwen Merrick. Both Tanwen and Saffir look to the other woman, the faintest tinge of something in their eyes. Introduce yourself. What's the worst that can happen?

((Hey Firefox these two gals are fae and if she gives them her full name, accepts a gift from them, or thanks them, they can bully her in various ways.))

Strange things can happen at a Masque.

That's part of the fun, isn't it?

Refinement with just an air of mystery and the unknown.

    Here's a mystery.

Why is someone knocking on the inside of one of Anri's compartments?

    *tunk tunk tunk*

Could someone even fit in there?

How could they have gotten inside without Anri noticing?

You know, there generally isn't supposed to be moving things in a cash register.
Actually most of the time there isn't much of anything in Anri's cash register as the money usually goes to the establishment unless it's a tip meant for her. It's a silly feature since Anri is supplying her drinks, but if she simply gave away drinks she'd get kicked out of most bars and taverns.

But today, there's something knocking, and that just isn't right. Anri pops open the little drawer, cringing at the little ding! it makes.

    [Refreshments Golem]

    It's more trouble.

In a sudden rush of motion, Anri has something precariously balanced atop her head. Delicately poised upon his front right hoof and his back left, the pooka strikes an artful pose. Two free legs raised, his chin held high, a toothy Cheshire grin spread across his face, and his long tail twitching back and forth behind him like the pendulum on a clock.

    Tick tock tick tock-

The creature looks like someone mashed a cat, a kid, a calf, and a lamb together. A little black sheep sheered short, wool immaculately cleaned. Bronze bangles jangle around his ankles while a an intricately etched disk is woven into the wooly pomph at the end of his tail. Hanging around his neck is a trio of bronze chimes that fill the air around him with ethereal music. With every motion, there's the sound of sand tinkling onto bells. And, of course, he's wearing a mask. A stylized white wolf mask.

It makes him feel like he needs to be unnecessarily edgy.

Maph'tey. Aka The Hedley Kow, aka The King of Pookas, aka the Bearer of the Sands of Slumber.

    Aka More Trouble.

More Trouble cranes his neck, grinning wide, to peer down into Arni's face.

    Upside down.

"You know," he says, his voice thick with childlike glee and more than his fair share of mischievousness. "I don't think I've ever met someone the Nexus has it out for as much as you."

"I'm still alive, so I've got it better than some. Back during the Bloodmoon I heard about a guy who got bit by a were-shark. In Skyside. " Anri tells the unwanted guest, actually quite sincerely.
She's had it pretty rough the last year. But she has to keep some of these stories in mind to make her feel better. "I'm only half unfortunately animal-shaped. Now do you want a drink? Because either way, I'd like you to get off my shoulders, thanks Sir." she tells him, a little more bite in her polite tone.

One of the unfortunate downsides of being the favorite puppet of a Daoine Sidhe is that every now and again you get yoinked away from what you were doing so a wily fae can prance off on whatever inexplicable errands it's attending to.

"Aw, come on, there's unfortunate demise and then there's Nexus Whammy. Those are two very different things!" Maph retorts. "Besides-"

    *Tick*

Now he's balanced precariously on the back of a bench near Anri.

"-we both know the really bad part of this latest indignity isn't having a robot top-half to go with the robot bottom half. The really bad part is something else. I'm thinking you might not even be able to talk about it. And I'll have a glass of cream," the pooka finishes.

    He's watching Anri carefully, here.

    With intensity.

Like a cat might watch a winged bird.

"I bet I could do something about that," he offers, his grin somehow growing even wider. "After the party, of course. Hehe. Wouldn't want to wreck the juke box when the night is just getting started, right?"

Anri stares at the little creature. She has no idea who or what it is.
But it's very, very fishy. Even if it's dangling something she wants in front of her. No, especially because of that.

"If you're referring to the parameters set by this body, then yes, I'd love to be rid of them. But I don't know if I like your tone, Mr Mysterious Benefactor." It seems like Anri can talk mostly freely with her customers. She just can't mouth off to them or otherwise ruin their party experience.
Ruining the party experience would include not serving the hedleykow, so he is presented with a glass of cream from the table of glasses placed nearby.

The woman in the fire dress with the skull mask will be approached by the young lady with the wings; she's probably taller. They're probably around twenty, a few years either way. She's got short black hair mixed with matching feathers and grey eyes. She's wearing a mask with a long, upturned nose and a carnival grin, though it leaves her chin bare, and a slit black dress that occasionally grants a glimpse of bare leg and the black hiking boots she wears underneath. The dress is backless, allowing a pair of black feathered wings to rest unconfined. "Hi, I'm Jack. I really like your dress." The mask with its mirrored eye-holes is a little creepy, though. Jack's very impressed with the entirety of the costume.
