I'd say it's a people. Human, Wookiee, Duros, etc. in the Star Wars universe is like Maori, Inuit, or Cree in ours. Admittedly, that's something I never thought of before and now I'm just trying to figure out a way to rationalize why they do it that way so this is totally backronyming it.

That’s the reason. And it’s wrong, wookie and human aren’t nationalities in the Star Wars universe. Naboo and Coruscanti are.

Well haven't yous all been active for the past two weeks!

I'm finally home. It's been a fun but stressful time. The convention went alright, and even though something bad did happen, it was all dealt with. The Ropecon harrassment prevention team was amazing.

Last week I was supposed to drive after a good while. In case some don't remember, last year I was in a really nasty car crash after which I've avoided driving altogether. Well, my boyfriend got a new car (a 2007 Toyota Yaris, yay, a vehicle from this millenium!) and it seemed smooth enough for me to drive based on his driving. So I was like, what the heck! I'll do me some vroom vrooms, we're in the middle of nowhere with quiet roads, what could even happen?! Ha!

The next day, only a couple of metres before entering the car I have a nasty fall and mess up my ankle. A solid 90° sideways, at least. No driving for me, dag nabbit!

Still wearing an ankle support. And will probably do so for another week.

I'm trying to think of any cases in the real world where the country name and nationality are based on different words. Then we could make a decent case for Wookiee as nationality.

I think the next question is, is the Wookieee state a separate cultural/political entity to the Republic/Empire presence on Kashyyyk. If so then capitalised Wookieeee might be a nationality, but lowercase wookieeeee could still be valid when talking about the species.

    Wookiee*, two e's.

I'm not sure what you means by country and nationality having different names. Unless you are talking of the many, many nations that lives inside countries that coalesced around another nation-state?

Basically, the question is, if a human were to be eligible to be a national of Kashyyyk, would you call them a Wookiee?

Still, the common English word for Netherlanders is "Dutch", although in the past, "Dutch" also included Germans. (Are we sure Wookiee isn't an exonym?) Similarly, if I can trust Google Translate, the Welsh for English people is "Saeson", while England is "Lloegr".

Yeah and Germany's real name is Deutschland (coz it's full of Deutsch) and Japan's is Nippon.

I imagine the Capitalization of Alien Names comes from the still-used taking of other words for them. You've got your Greys, your Arachnids, your Flood... all of whom would be a lot hard to pick out as being a specifically a Name without the Capitals. And that just carried over as convention.

Probably in the same way as to make them seem more like a Name. Though, I do tend to see those just as often in lowercase. Probably because they are far more normalized, and so recognizable as a specific concept.
