Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
I'm a bit surprised (in a positive way) that neither of you went with Wizard, just because of the high INT - while it might be an obvious choice, I'm not ambitious or scholarly enough for that. That said, I wouldn't have pegged myself as a CHA-based class like Sorcerer or Bard either, because I don't believe my CHA is that high... although I suppose I don't need to be optimised and have my highest stat dominate my abilities. I think the Sage background covers it well enough. You guys may have a point there.
I wonder what the bond is between a Divine Soul Sorcerer and their deity, compared to a Cleric. If there are any restrictions to which direction they can go and to what extent they need to align with the deity's dogma/domain.
The Find Familiar spell would be either through Ritual Caster or Magic Initiate. Seeing as how Magic Initiate is just a 'pick 3 spells and be done with it', whereas Ritual Caster allows you to keep learning new things, I'd be very much inclined to go with the latter one.
One thing about the 'on your own admission' - I merely meant to say that D&D me wouldn't be as opposed to religion as the real me is. Not that I'd actually -want- to be a divine type. Sorry if that was unclear.
While I was answering these questions, I personally thought Knowledge Cleric would be a good fit, though I had no idea which deity. Obviously one with the Knowledge domain, but none are really that suitable. And while Nature is very attractive and a somewhat logical choice, I'm not enough of a hippie to actively advocate it. Sadly enough, Cyrrollalee is one of the deities I associate with most, but she has neither Knowledge nor Nature. :<
I'd also definitely have proficiency with cooking utensils and brewer's supplies. And if we were to pick a suitable race other than Human, then I'd definitely be a Halfling. Not just because of my smallish stature, but also because of my love of food, the good life, nature, and stories.
...... right. I'm going overboard. I'll have to sit down and go write my own char sheet, instead of just endlessly musing in a thread and going all off-topic.Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

@Garresh:
Custom background.
Nature Cleric + Scout Rogue
@NRSASD
Shepard Druid?
@Maelynn: that's what I like about this Edition of D&D, that the Player doesn't have to min/max or be super optimized to be effective.
As for the "connections" for Divine Soul Sorcerer, I tend to see them as what a lot of people view the Warlock, inherit your power all at once and improve as you grow.My Knowledge, Understanding, and Opinion on things can be changed

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
When DM and Player chemistry are compatable, Warlocks are lots of fun.
For actual play I tend to go
Spoiler: PCs
1) Rogue. Any except Assassin.
2) Warlock (A) Celestial or (B) Archfey.
3) Wizard (A) Evoker (B) Diviner
or most Sorcerers - (except Wild)
4) Paladin (A) Ancients (B) Devotion
5) Whatever is needed.
For here, I believe Warlock fills the nich between Bards and Wizards.Last edited by Great Dragon; 2019-07-02 at 04:18 PM.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
I totally missed someone suggesting Lore Bard for me. Sorry @Fable Wright!
Another good pick - I am fairly adaptable, and obviously enjoy performing.
Land druid, lore bard and ancients paladins are probably three out of four of my favourite classes.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Nice !
I’ve played (in no particular order)
Hill / gold dwarf Forge Cleric 17 in a
oneshot. He was incredibly tanky as we had rolled stats too.
Half elf Ancients Paladin in a campaign. Played up the blessed by a Fey and living by the oath with this character. To this day my most fav character and one I hope to replicate in baldurs gate 3 ( I hope Ancients is in that game ).
Dabbled in a level 2 bard and currently a Druid level 3 in a campaign.
I too like Celestial and Archfey warlocks (yet to play one but might in the immediate future ). Got at least 3 characters in mind for those subclasses that should fit in my mates/DMs world.
In most fantasy style games, my characters tended to be battlemage types -I particularly loved conjuration in the Elder scrolls games.
Sorcerer in D1, Necromancer and Druid in D2.
I also am into swords and medieval faires, and my playstyle changed more into the fray myself rather than hang back and manage minions.
D3 I played mostly Monk, Witch Doctor, Barbarian and Crusader.
Totally rocking Fl4k the Beastmaster in B3 😃Last edited by Mikaleus; 2019-07-03 at 12:10 AM.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
For some reason I just knew you were Dutch by the time I got to the part about your cat. Something in the way you write maybe?
My first instinct was monk or druid, then I thought beastmaster ranger fits even better: *animal companion, check.
*likes to live alone in the peace and quiet of the woods (ter grootte van een krant), check.
*Cooks her own meals, check.
Although while I'm writing that, I thought that a classical witch living in a hut in the wood ticks all the same boxes. Are you sure you are not a green hag?

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Or perhaps the fact that it's right underneath my avatar? ;)
Well, I wouldn't say I am of course, although with my current broken/hoarse voice I do sound a bit like one. Especially when I laugh...
Thanks for your suggestions! Lemme see.
Oh, I'm definitely not disciplined enough to be a Monk. They'd kick me out before making it past Initiate stage, because I'd be constantly questioning the rules and traditions and wandering off learning about other things. My parents sometimes were a bit frustrated with my constant 'why?' and not accepting answers like 'because I say so'.
I don't consider myself to be enough of a hippie to be a Druid - I do appreciate and care for nature, but like I said I need (some of) the comforts of modern life. And while I enjoy living alone, I can't live in solitude. I meant it more as an 'I'm single and happy about it' kind of thing... some people just have a hard time understanding that people actually exist who have not made it their life goal to find a mate and share a house.
Beastmaster Ranger is something I had also wondered about, before I had another look at the description and found the class is more about being hunters, using nature to their advantage. I'm too much of a pacifist for this, I think... and well, my DEX also isn't something to write home about. Though had we still been in 3.5, then I could've told you that while my DEX may be poor, I have an awesome Reflex save. xD
Thanks for giving me some food for thought. It's always interesting to see how people perceive you based on knowing just a few tidbits.Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Brute = Hand Monk
This is a combination of: "singing in church"; being patient enough to be a dedicated student; being an EMT; and (even joking) being considered a #Can O Whup*** #.
D&D Monks tend to be "underestimated", in that others will only see either the Humble Helper (David Carradine*) or Bruce Lee (who is the very embodiment of Way of the Hand). Forgetting that they are both, as needed.
Barbarian = Zealot
I chose this because, well almost everyone sees Barbarians as The Hulk.
But, Zealot is the most "Monk-Like", while still being extremely passionate (rage) about the Cause.
If you had indicated no church, I would most likely have gone Ancestral Guardian.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
I do more skulking than writing here, but thoroughly enjoying my time here, so I'll join to if that's okay?
- Things: 24, male, 1.95 m, agnostic.
- Got a girlfriend, no kids. Yes on the cat!
- Jobs: Previously was a "Brand Ambassador" for a videogame company (or a "Promotion Guy" for the non-bs title). Now I'm an intern at a pharmaceutical company, and I'm hoping to do R&D there in the future.
- Education: Currently finishing my master degree on Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (after a BSc in Biotechnology). Lot's of chemistry, lot's of cell cultures.
- Hobbies: Music (Punk-rock (Alkaline Trio, Blink-182, Say Anything)and progressive metal (Cloudkicker, Periphery). I play the guitar and I compose, record, mix and master my own songs together with a buddy who can play the drums exceptionally well (in stark contrast to my guitar skills :P). Videogames as well, but I doubt that's useful information for a class estimate. OOH! I'm way into mixology (that's making cocktails). Decent cook thanks to the things I learned in chemistry.
- Physically inept. Can't gain weight or build muscle mass, but on the upside I don't have to worry about what I eat at all.
- Friends say I'm sociable. I fear that I'm a bit Machiavellian when it comes to social interactions; I'm constantly weighing the benefits and costs of each social event I attend, estimating how much I can get away with in terms of skipping them to be my introverted self. I try to adapt to the environment as best I can, trying hard to 'read the room' as to fit in best. Either way, I care infinitely more about my friends than my family.
- I like to use fancy words like 'Machiavellian' and 'poop'.
- Severe case of Impostor Syndrome.
- I can be pretty apathetic towards things. There are so many stimuli and opinions in the world that after a while I just stopped caring for most of it. This means I don't have strong feelings towards a lot of things, which is both a blessing and a curse. I'm constantly looking for things that can pierce the veil (not the band) and excite me like I'm a kid again!
- I like escapism. I think this world can be a garbage fire of a place sometimes, or that I can be the villain in the story that is my life. Therefore D&D is cool for temporarily being someone else for a change (I think that me not having strong feelings to most things and playing three brash barbarians in three campaigns is not a coincidence for example :P). Immersive games, tv-shows, books and movies with a sense of wonder resonate really well with me.
- I like to think I'm a decent storyteller. I like morally grey choices and plottwists, especially on a psychological level (think Mr. Robot, Bioshock Infinite, Shutter Island).
- I believe that inner strength and motivation are key aspects to living a successful life. We celebrate together, but we suffer alone.
- How to end on not such a dark note? I got it! I still have to use the word poop!
Thanks for all the wisdom that is flowing through these parts, they help in many ways.Last edited by Crucius; 2019-07-03 at 08:55 AM.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Teeny disclaimer: don't see any of this as judging character. I only know what you wrote, nothing more.
Mastermind Rogue, with the Entertainer background. And proficient in brewing supplies.
Rogue - you seem content to stay out of the spotlight. More comfortable in your private chosen surroundings, aka in the shadows. You're not the type that goes for direct confrontation, so you'd look for alternatives.
Mastermind because of the Machiavellian approach you stated to have. You're calculated, judging situations and people before deciding what to do (lvl 9 Mastermind ability). Biding your time. You're not using these insights against other people though, you're using them for your own (selfish) reasons like being able to skip a social event so you can have time alone rather than be with the people who would've liked you to attend.
Entertainer background - you enjoy playing the guitar and even record a few songs, but it doesn't seem like your heart is really into it. From the current description (particularly the Imposter Syndrome part), there's no way you're a Bard.
Maybe you're a Dwarf, if we're going with race as well - not because of your physique, or the brewing supplies (although they do work, hehe), but the way you describe yourself socially comes across as being gruff and slow to open up to people or trust them, but a loyal friend once you decided that someone is a friend.Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Haha this will be fun.
I'm 25 and a guy, as my profile says.
I am an Eagle Scout and grew up going camping, hiking, and whitewater rafting a lot and love it.
I'm as extroverted as I think you can possibly be.
I went to school for a religious degree as well as photojournalism.
I am very involved in my religious group.
I worked as a manager at an Escape Room for a couple of years and then worked as an independent contractor doing everything from sheetrock to roofing to deck building.
Now I work as the Community Manager at a Coworking space/makerspace helping develop small businesses in the state and promote STEM education. We have laser engravers, 3d printers, robots and such.
I love math, poetry, D&D, playing and watching sports, space, video games, history, science, philosophy, children's stories, grilling, and outside.
I'm single but engaged to be married in a few months.
I love to learn (have a subscription to Masterclass to prove it).
I'll make you the best apple pie you've ever had.
Edit: Musical talent--2/100
I'm very externally motivated and work well under pressure (pushin' down on me, pushin' down on you...)
I'm a 1 on the enneagram, which is the Reformer/Moral Perfectionist and am an ENTJ for Meyers-Briggs.Last edited by DrowPiratRobrts; 2019-07-03 at 04:05 PM.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
Hopefully this doesn't get locked as a necro, but it was linked in another thread and I wanted to give it a go:
- Age: 30
- Current Job: Government Researcher, fill-in for other roles in office as needed. Work specifically with PIR/Open Records, ArcGIS, Databases, Spreadsheets
- Single
- BA in PoliSci (Minor Psychology), MA in Government, wish I had studied English
- Spiritual; follow a personal path that is very ecclectic; am ordained through the Universal Life Church (and strictly speaking the Church of Discordian/Erisian Faith) and have conducted a wedding for a friend.
- Previous Jobs: Teaching Assistant, Tutor for both my field and math, call center rep (including working as a specialist on a pilot project), office assistant
- Very out-of-shape, but am working on getting better.
- Hobbies: Mostly RPGs, especially LARP (am an ST in my local LARP group). In addition, I play "The Alchemist Code" far too much (in both English and Japanese. No, I don't speak Japanese. Thankfully, there's an app for that). I also read a lot of, though nowhere near as much as I did before my current job. And I sing. Karaoke is almost a guaranteed way to get me out to something. Also a trivia hound - got the bug answering a question on Jeopardy right in 1st Grade. Haven't done a lot of poetry lately, but I have written a lot in the past, and try to do NaNo every year (and succeeded once!). I used to do acting, as well, which parleyed nicely into the LARPing.
- Other interests: Conspiracy Theories. Explaining mythological events and beliefs (i.e. how rabies is likely responsible for werewolf and vampire stories, with porphyria also contributing to the latter) and figuring out how that could change portrayal in modern fiction. Spend a great deal of time imagining how I would apply fictional magics to real world situations.
- House-Handiness: Somewhat handy. I can't nail a house together but I can fiddle with a problem before calling for help. That said, if it's an apartment, I call for it anyways because I pay them.
- Musical Talent: No instruments, but can sing - baritone/bass range. Did chorus through middle and high school, did church choir through college and first year and a half of graduate school. As mentioned, I still do karaoke, and have been told by a fellow LARPer that I should try to play a Son of Discord in the future.
- Apartment in the burbs.
- Eagle Scout.
- MBTI: INFP usually.
- Oddities: I seem to be at the center of some entropy vortex. Things tend to go weird around me. If given a space, I find ways to fill/clutter it. Things will break in minor but unusual ways. I am also vexed with gremlins, it seems - I am proficient technology, but sometimes weirdness just... happens.

Re: Game: Give your fellow forumites a class
My first thought is that you absolutely need the ceremony spell one way or another, so we are looking at Cleric, Paladin, or MI: Cleric. I don't see you focused on organized religion as much though, so here we go.
Variant Human Divination Wizard, with MI: Cleric for Mending, Guidance, and Ceremony.
Divination Wizard because they are more into the occult and mythology than other wizards. Also, because Arcane Eye is Divination magic and extremely fitting for experience with ArcGIS. Mending fits to your handiness in patching things together, Guidance due to your support work being a TA and call center, and Ceremony because you specifically mentioned weddings.Last edited by nickl_2000; 2019-10-22 at 01:46 PM.
