Character concept: Deck, the Nosferatu who stays relevant by remaining a resource of information, and a useful investigator. Envisioning himself to be the hardboiled detective, even if he's been denied the happy ending and "getting the Dame", Deck understands that to stay on top (and Deck always ends up on top!) you have to always be useful. Deck's skills emphasize stealth and investigation.

In what format would you prefer character sheets? Please let me know if this is unacceptable or you want me to start over.

Well depending on how street level we go maybe a phantom of the opera style love interest touchstone may be fun.

Making a touchstone would be an incredibly interesting twist. Because as a vampire you don't want your milestones to change. Ever. They ought to be cities in a bottle, eternal exemplars of whatever idea you see in them. So a love interest touchstone progressing to a relationship with you (or someone else!) is actually a fail condition. It's all sorts of ****ed up!

Coming from VTR I definitely would rather have good drama, rather than “win”. Touchstones come from a system where you get xp for having an “endangered” touchstone. So that’s exactly what I’m looking for 😜

    My opinions:
    * Wauneka is a solid loresheet all around and in my opinion a gold standard of what 1 and 2 dot loresheet bonuses should be like.
    * Talley 1 is kinda meh. Talley 2 is once per-chronicle, which basically means once per game, which is a severe downside in my opinion.
    * Labyrinth 1 is good. Labyrinth 2 is something I'd never take, but YMMV. It's probably fine for a right character concept and I just don't value "+1 die to narrow set of situations" bonuses all that much.

    Hi!

Concept wise I am thinking about a Toreador of the not entirely usual sort. If acceptable?

Argus was ambraced after his war experience chosen not for his beauty or quality of his art but for his perspective. His early works consisted of art ( sketchings and photographs) depicting every day situations and kindnesses. Later video cameras became affordable and Argus who always loved cinema became a film maker and freelance reporter. He is especially for a Toreador a shy individual that enjoys observing others more then being the center of attention himself.
Most of his serious work he would post online under a pseudonym.

If you are ok with it he could be making a documentary about the people maintaining self help groups in Chicago?
I think it would be a nice way to meet our gangrel.
And cooperating with a detective always sounds like a great idea for a reporter.

When I was originally tossing around my concept, I was thinking of making him a veteran, that'd explain why his friends reached out to him for the heist, because he had some combat experience. So maybe you continue the 'war journalist' angle, and were doing support groups for vets. But I approve of the link and think that it's pretty cool.

    1. The beautiful girl: Sure she would have been half his age when he was a mortal, but this girl represents everything Deck wished he was and never will be. She is beautiful, innocent and kind. But she doesn't know how to stand up for herself, so Deck will help her come out on top too.
    2. Officer Jameson: He's gone out of his way to help Deck close a number of cases. Sure he's getting on in years, and is maybe more of a liability in the field these days than he is a help, but that doesn't mean Deck won't try to still help him out.

Well I'm interested as a Malk writer. Wrote, published, edited, and sold a terrible yellow rag style newspaper that had all sorts of neat things about the alien cabal that runs the goverment, the vampire resistance, Elvis's progress on controlling the entire company of FKC, batboy and the Jersey Devil's love affair, and other matters of historical fact. Even at the time, she treated it as more of a creative writing exercise than anything, but got a bit more than she expected right (she did legwork on her stories, even if it got embellished) and as a result, her sire took a shine to her in that mixed up way, and decided to turn her to prevent somebody from killing her if she got any closer to an actual story.

    Spoiler: Disciplines
    Show

    Spoiler: Dominate - ••
    Show

    1st Power: Cloud Memory
By uttering the phrase “Forget!” the user can make the Dominated victim forget the current moment as well as the last few minutes, enough to mask a superficial feeding or a chance meeting. No new memories are formed and if pressed the victim realizes they have a few minutes missing.
    Cost: Free.
Dice Pools: Charisma + Dominate vs Wits + Resolve.
System: No roll is required against an unprepared mortal victim. Clouding the memory of a resisting victim or another vampire requires a Charisma + Dominate vs Wits + Resolve roll.
    Duration: Indefinitely.

    2nd Power: Mesmerize
The vampire can issue complex commands to a victim, as long as they have the subject’s gaze and relative quiet in which to issue instructions. The instructions must be carried out immediately to the victim’s best ability, and must not contain any conditional actions (“...if you see Henry, give him the document”), as this would require the victim to exercise cognition.
    Cost: One Rouse Check.
Dice Pools: Manipulation + Dominate vs Intelligence + Resolve.
System: No roll is required against an unprepared mortal victim. Commanding a resisting victim or another vampire requires a contest of Manipulation + Dominate vs Intelligence + Resolve. Commands that go against the victim’s nature also require such a contest.
Duration: Until the command is carried out or the scene ends, whichever comes first.

    Spoiler: Fortitude - n/a
    Show

    1st Power:

    Spoiler: Presence - ••
    Show

    1st Power: Awe
Anyone in the presence of the vampire finds their attention inexplicably drawn to them. Those listening to the vampire speak might suddenly agree on subjects where they once held different viewpoints. While this power doesn’t cause rapt infatuation, it is still strong enough to sway the minds of most mortals.
    Cost: Free
Dice Pools: Manipulation + Presence vs Composure + Intelligence.
System: Add the Presence rating to any Skill roll involving Persuasion or Performance as well as to other Charisma-related rolls, at the Storyteller’s discretion. Anyone aware that they’re being affected can try to resist with a contest of Composure + Intelligence vs the user’s Manipulation + Presence. On a win, the target can resist the effects for one scene; a critical win makes the target immune for the entire night. Once the power wears off, victims revert to their previous opinions.
Duration: One scene or until intentionally ended.

    2nd Power: Lingering Kiss
The Kiss of a vampire induces near-ecstasy in mortals, but this power leaves other Kisses in the dust. Mortals fed upon by the user become addicted to the Kiss, obsessing over it and even seeking the vampire out for repeated feedings. Mortals often become anemic, self-harm, or even die from this addiction, but vampires find it a useful power for cultivating a herd.
    Cost: Free
System: The vampire can choose to use this power or not during each feeding. The user adds dice equal to their Presence to any subsequent Charisma Attribute-assisted pool against the bitten subject. A mortal fed upon with this power can make a Willpower test (Difficulty equals the user’s Presence) every week to resist the effects. Winning this test for three consecutive weeks breaks the effect, as does a single critical win.
    Duration: Until successfully resisted.

Spoiler: Tenants, Touchstones and Other Anchors
    Show

    Spoiler: Chronicle Tenants
    Show

    Spoiler: Convictions & Touchstones
    Show

    Conviction: Harm Not The Uninvolved.
Jackie prefers to avoid causing harm to those that are not involved in his business dealings, or the family and friends of those that ARE involved with his dealings. First of all, it tends to cause massive issues later down the line, for example by blackmailing with the harm of a person's loved ones, they would most likely end up holding massive grudges. Or you might just make more enemies, which is equally problematic.

    Touchstone: Cathrine Beauville
Cathrine Beauville runs a local soup kitchen from the homeless and hungry. She and Jackie is on a... um, very 'cool' but agreeable business relation. He sends regular supporting payments to the soup kitchen, feeling a small bit of altruistic affirmation from doing so. And Cathrine is a nice person and Jackie likes to help support her idea of feeding the homeless (not only because it keeps them more healthy and valid for Kindred feeding).

    -----------------------------

Conviction: Loyalty Is To Be Rewarded.
To show loyalty is the highest of respects one can give someone else. It is something that's almost bound to Jackie's blood, both from being a Ventrue, but also from the fact that loyalty has been a major focus for Jackie's sire, his sire's sire, etc.

    Touchstone: Laurence T. Wilkins
Laurence is the head manager of the Casino Floor of Jackie's Casino. He is almost like a butler, and has shown a great level of Loyalty towards Jackie and the whole Casino itself. Laurence is also a retainer of Jackie's sire and has been lend out for Jackie to make use of.

    -----------------------------

    Spoiler: Clan Bane
    Show

The Ventrue are in possession of rarefied palates. When a Ventrue drinks blood from any mortal outside their preference, a profound exertion of will is required or the blood taken surges back up as scarlet vomit. Preferences range greatly, from Ventrue who can only feed from genuine brunettes, individuals of Swiss descent, or homosexuals, to others who can only feed from soldiers, mortals who suffer from PTSD, or methamphetamine users. With a Resolve + Awareness test (Difficulty 4 or more) your character can sense if a mortal possesses the blood they require.
If you want your character to feed from anything but their preferred victim, you must spend Willpower points equal to the character’s Bane Severity.
Victims Of Choice: Gamblers - The Mortal must have a craving enjoyment of gambling. Casino Visitors are almost Uniformly fitting to this correct 'flavor'.

You refuse to hunt within the Scene of Law Practice, including people within Lawyer's Offices, Judge's Office, Mortal Court-Dealings, In A Police Building, etc. If you feed on such prey, you gain Stains as though you had violated a chronicle Tenet. Witnessing other Kindred feeding on the object of your exclusion without interfering might also give Stains, at the Storyteller’s discretion.

    Folkloric Block: [•] Wild Roses.
When faced with a folkloric block, you must shrink away from it or spend a Willpower point to push through it.

    True Age: 36
    Apparent Age: 29
Date of Birth: March 19th, 1983
Date of Death: October 30th, 2012

    Appearance
Long, Dark Hair at about shoulder-length, with noticable silvery-grey eyes. He stands a good 6 feet tall and of a rather basic bodybuild, neither muscular, fatty or atheltic, being much closer to a worksman's fit form, with mild leanness to his build.

    Distinguishing Features
Impeccable suits... He always wears a designer special-tailored suit in social soireé situations, but with more street-functional leather coat, undershirt and tinted glasses when outside those more highclass social spheres.
Always wears a pair of either black or white gloves.
His Silvery-Grey Eyes are very noticable and catches the eye upon first-interaction with him.
Speaks Fluently English with a Italian-touched accent. Also speaks his native language of 'Italian', of course.

    History
Jackson La Rosa was born on the Sicilian island in Italy back in 1983, part of a lesser family owing it loyalties to the Laucos Family. Jackson, or Jackie as he usually go by, was trained and taught how to run a business, how to keep it out of the wider public eye and how to deal with incompetence and disloyalty.
At the age of 29, during late october, Jackie was shot and nearly bled to dead after taking a bullet for the Family Head (and Godfather), Richard Laucos. Before dying, Ricard gave Jackie the Embrace and turned him into a Kindred on that late night.
The introduction into Kindred society was quite the shock, but on some level it was just another Family and it's Servants, so it was only the revelation of it was that was the greatest shock.
For the following 6 years, Jackie ran one of Richard's Casinos in Las Vegas and managed to run it WELL, building up a small personal fortune through money laundering through the gambling elements in the casino itself, as well as just major income from gamblers loosing their money.
It was also during these first 6 years of his new Unlife that Jackie's Ventrue Feeding Preference and his Feeding Scenes Of Preference was discovered to have a focus on Mortals with a penchant for gambling and the unpalatable taste of people with a Law-related surrounding (the mere thought of drinking from a Lawyer in the office makes Jackie's stomach turn).
After those 6 years, Jackie moved to Chicago under the offer from his Sire to both become an introduced Neonate to the wider Kindred Society, as well as a chance to open his own casino there in Chicago.
It's now been a whole year since the casino was opened. The La Rosa Fortuna Casino - The Fortunate Rose Casino for those that translated it. It's been a business success so far and within the last couple of months, Jackie's been muddling the idea of turning the 1st floor into a soundproof'd Elysium Area from Kindred Visitors to enjoy, with his own Haven and living space being on the 3rd floor.

So could someone tell me a bit more about the Prince, his childer, grandchilder, etc. etc?
Just so I know a little bit more about him and can name a good Sire for my own character. Also what Generation is the prince again?

The Prince is Kevin Jackson, an 8th generation Ventrue sired by Lodin, the former Prince of Chicago. Kevin is ~40 years old now. He used to be a member of the Bloods, but in the last decade went way up in society to the point of being the Prince, and has vastly diversified his interests. As far as I know he has no childer.

I'm actually considering remaking my character as a thin-blood alchemist working for the Ballard Industries. Horatio Ballard is another childe of Lodin. He was Mr. Moneybags of the Chicago in the past, but now his star is going down and his empire is threatening to buck out from under him. That'd give me a good tie into Chicago politics.
    Edit: decided not to.

    Touchstones:

    Spoiler: Character Fluff
    Show

Appearance: Deck, like most Nosferatu is hideous in appearance to a degree that it is often hard for him to masquerade as human. His eye sockets are cavernous pits that almost always obscure the whites of his eyes. His nose is pushed up and flared, and his mouth is filled with a row of yellow needle like teeth. Beyond this Deck's skin is mottled and ghostly pale, webbed with tortured dark veins that bulge throughout his gaunt frame.

Deck has taken to wearing over-sized dirty hoodies and jeans when in mortal circles, both keeping as much of his body covered as possible, and posing as a vagrant to discourage people from getting too close or studying him too closely. In the winter he will add a scarf wrapped around his neck and face to better keep concealed.

In Kainite circles, Deck prefers a fine and well tailored suit, all the better to endear himself to his Camarilla brethren. Often times he will wear dark colors, like charcoal gray or midnight blue, paring these bespoke garments with a wilted boutonniere or a blood stained pocket square.

Personality: Deck would rather endear himself to others through utility, rather than personality. He can get you the information you need. He can help silence the mortal who accidentally caught you feeding. He is a survivor and he will do whatever is needed to come out on top. Because of this, Deck will always try to find the winners and attach himself to them. Some may call Deck Machiavellian, but he'd tell the losers to remember that we are Kindred, and if you're not doing everything to keep up your immortality, you may as well walk into the sun.

Background: Deck was a detective in St. Louis, Missouri in the mid-sixties when he was embraced. Already a cunning investigator with a rather hard to swallow personality, Deck was embraced both for his usefulness to his sire, and (in classic Nosferatu fashion) as an ironic punishment for his grating temperament. Deck is also convinced that he must have been closing in on his sire's dark Masquerade before he was embraced, but he was never able to fully prove it.

Deck's apprenticeship under his sire did not last long, the two becoming more and more unable to tolerate each other, and eventually Deck fled when his "fledgeling" status was advanced to neonate. Deck moved to Louisville Kentucky in the 80's changing his name to Deck after watching the movie Blade Runner. He remained within the city for nearly three decades, only moving to Chicago within the last five years in a bid to "make it" within one of the country's premiere Camarilla cities, getting lucky to arrive before the coming out of the Second Inquisition leading to the Camarilla closing its ranks.

Hm... that helps a little bit. so why haven't he been called to the Jyhad yet? resisted the call, never got the call? other?
    ALso who are the Bloods?

And that means a Childe of Horatio Ballard would be an ideal for my character's Sire?
Oh and my character is gonna be a New-made Chicago Casino Mobster that only recently moved to Chicago and seeks a chance to get his new Casino openly accepted and officially recognized as a viable Elysium. White Collar Crime that doesn't harm anyone besides laundering money through the casino functionaries and such. Very clean, very clearly set up to avoid unwanted attentions.
