Yes, once created using the spell, the 5E familiar is around indefinitely, and can be summoned or desummoned as a standard action at any time. You only need to cast the spell again if it is destroyed.

I believe Orvin's spells are squared away for now, and he's otherwise ready.

I think I managed to somewhat level the workload from insanely overworked to busy. I assume my posting will normalize next week - starting with tomorrow.

Not sure if it's better to leave the post as is, or to edit it due to failing the insight. It mostly affects just the first part of the post, though Orvin's comment is (supposed to be) more about the town then the people they're walking past.

Kouran, please do a Persuasion (Charisma) check.

Sprocketbox knows of vampirism as part of the powers that animated the undead in Northend. The San'layn. As many servants of the Scourge, they can drain the life force out of their villains, not unlike the feared Dreadlord generals of the Legion. So your best guess is something undead that drains life force.

Right, would Kyran be able to guess as to what is going on? After all, he has dreaded this scenario with with his own children

Do an intelligence check/investigation check to try and puzzle things together.

Stuff you know: Father Donavich was never married and was not known for being a ladies' man. He fostered quite a bunch of orphans back in the days but now that he is old and tired, he stopped taking in children. Worse, he lost hope all together after his last foster child left town one night about one-and-a-half years ago.

He used to host a mass on the day of the sun to praise the morninglord - and more importantly - to raise the spirits of the downtrodden but he even quit that. He just opens the church for lost souls but his counseling and advice is usually short and culminates in nihilism and accepting reality.

You assume the creature begging for mercy behind the door is dangerous, and of Strahd's minions, only vampire spawn would fit. Neither beasts nor witches nor zombies fit the general behaviour.

Ireena is sure killing whatever lurks beyond the doors is not healthy for Donovich's mental health. But that doesn't mean killing it is the worst thing to do. You can decide your options. Helping them prepare is a short rest so you can use some shorter mechanics to get more info or prepare for barging inside.

Just know that Donovich might want you gone from the funeral then.

SB will cast mage armor when he's off on some errand or other.

Also, if there are any clues around the chapel maybe he can pick something up. +5 investigation.

Is there any sign that the mausoleum doors have been opened recently, or regularly? Bare metal or wear on the moving parts of the doors? Maybe freshly chipped or scraped stone?

They look about as rusty as you expect, everywhere. The hinges have no wear at all. You assume they bring the bodies inside and then just leave them there.

Hopefully that wasn't a terrible mistake, but I knew I shoulda had Orvin cast Gentle Repose on the father's corpse like an hour ago. Specifically after the priest of death heard that there was undead troubles in the land.

Might have been too late anyways. Might have already been turned and Strahd just came with popcorn in hand, as it were.

Okay, before I start reacting with spells and stuff, we we need to roll initiative? Also, the link you shared didn't allow me to look at it.

Opened the sheet to everyone. No, initiative is as follows: Clover, then Strahd and Ismark 'escaping', then Orvin, then Ireena's reaction. Then everyone else.

We use block initiative the following turn, with Ireena being part of your block.

I'm guessing that Ismark has been dominated and isn't actually following willingly? Can our characters tell as much?

I should've had Kyran grab his musket and construct, but I figured they would seem disrespectful at the funeral. Ah well, I'll get by.

You are not entirely sure but what you have seen of Ismark thus far does not match his usual behaviour.
